These last two Bad Boys movies & the last two Transformers movies have shown that the best thing for a franchise, the way to improve the quality is pretty simple. Get rid of Micheal Bay.

Thing is, Bay can be an excellent director. He, like Snyder, needs co-writers and no one does it like him. You can’t improve a movie by getting rid of Bay, you improve it by showing the audience how other directors can impact film series - like the changes in the Alien series between Scott, Cameron, Fincher and on and on

Because the Slap was the only BIG negative thing about Will Smith, it allowed for the passage of time (2 years to be exact) to allow fans to warm up to him again. He wasn’t out attacking the fans or even trying to be full blown political, he just came back with an action film to be enjoyed by the audience. That all we’ve ever wanted from Hollywood and Will Smith helped deliver that. So, respect there.

I think one aspect of the film that doesn't get enough credit, is that Mike went from a ladies man to eventually realising that he he'd be the most happest that he can be, if he settled down with the love of his life. Just like his brother in arms has been doing and showing him for years now. He even has a son that he has to look out for along with his wife, that is some beautiful character progression and the writers deserve the success that they are having.

Bring back the costumes and supervillains dammit! I don't have much faith in the next Deadpool, he's just another Bad Boy Axel Foley superhero anyway and The Crow, please, the first one was only so popular because The Cure was hot and we weren't given good real super hero flicks back then since we'd go and see whatever guaranteed bank super hero schlock they'd put out back then. It was hard to believe before this but now I find it almost impossible that their Batgirl movie was as bad as they claimed. WB had simply spent too much money on The Flash so that was the one they kept and after dropping the ACME vs Wile E Coyote movie which from all accounts was really funny they've proven that they'll destroy a quality movie to make a few bucks. Saying Batgirl was bad was clearly a smokescreen so people wouldn't question the decision. The fact we'll never get to see it just plain sucks.

12:38 - 13:18 Yeah, this was a major downer for me too. If I'm being honest though, the only way to fix this problem is to cut out several of the movie's plotlines, including Rita and Team AMMO. Now while this may lead to problems, it can be fixed like this: Instead of pairing the Bad Boys duo with Team Ammo in this sequel, the writers should've pair them up with Reggie and Judy Howard (for the the 3rd act though, but I'll get to that later). Considering how everyone mentions Reggie being the star of this movie, I feel like him being with Mike and Marcus on this mission would make things more interesting. Considering how Marcus kept dunking on him in the first act on the movie, and calling him useless, I'd have like to see Reggie brought on the mission, mainly starting out as a simple father-&-son-in-law bonding, with Marcus trying to explain to him the responsibility of work, while Reggie has a different opposition. When things go bad when they bring him alone for investigating Fletcher or the helicopter crash, Reggie begins to try and show that he's more than meets the eye. This also can show what Reggie's job was when he was deployed in Yemen, maybe even being able to show his investigating skills. Heck, maybe have his video gaming tie into a little project he was working on. We can give more time to spend with Mike and Armando, with Reggie even questioning how can a father like Mike be so keen on protecting his son, with Mike reminding him how Marcus, despite how he treats him, never gave up on him, so he won't do the same with Armando. The 2nd half sees the four men learn about the villain McGrath, and contact Judy to convince her of what he's done, and that they're innocent. Mike however, doesn't mention Armando to Judy/denies knowing what happen to him, not wanting to see Judy do anything to his son. Judy agrees to help and bring in her squad so that they take him down, especially after learning that they kidnapped her daughter. The finale goes down much the same, expect there's Lockwood plotline or Rita and AMMO coming to help, and Judy finding out that Armando's there. Although I would change McGrath's death to be more of a crocodile eating him (Seriously, that would have been much more satisfying, then just a bullet to the head). Judy lets Armando go after seeing that he rescued her daughter, to which the film reaches it's climax A much better streamline for 3-act structure, but also keeps to a running theme about family, as both Mike, Marcus, and Judy wanted to avenge to man who was both a father and father-figure, but also are burden with risk of losing the family that they have now.

Maybe David Zaslav was right when he threw the Batgirl movie in the trash? I know it's mean to think that way, but unfortunately, the second Bad Boys film by Adil & Bilal also brings me no joy. It's not due to the basic story - which is not at all original: the buddy duo framed for a crime they didn't commit, corruption in the police, and "we're going rogue" - we've seen that dozens of times in every TV series and B-movie, but it's still a solid story. What isn't solid is, once again, the technical execution. Because cinematographer Robrecht Heyvaert still films as if for a smartphone. A few cute but useless drone shots don't hide the fact that he shoots 80% of the film in close-ups - showing us the digitally smoothed faces of the stars much closer than we ever wanted to see them. While Michael Bay at least has a certain feel for scope and pathos, everything here looks like an escalated TikTok. The action is chopped up; we never get a sense of the filmic space: who is where, what is happening, how many enemies there are, where they are, and how close or far away the "heroes" are from their goal. Beautiful locations like the club or the crocodile park are criminally underused because Adil & Bilal unfortunately have absolutely no sense of dramaturgy, tension building, or beautiful action choreography. What we're left with is a vain main actor who is also the co-producer of the whole thing: Will Smith, whose character Mike Lowrey spends the entire first ten minutes being told by the other characters what an absolutely cool guy he is. Rarely has it been so uncomfortable to watch an actor self-aggrandize - the only thing more celebrated than Smith is the sponsoring partner Mars, whose Skittles and other brands have more screen time than Mike and Marcus's wives. Eat your heart out, Shazam 2. When Smith is not having himself declared the head honcho of this movie, Martin Lawrence has to play the complete fool again, babbling incessantly about nonsense after a near-death experience for the rest of the film, which would have been considered too much even in the heyday of "funny Black guys babbling stuff" movies in the 80s and 90s. Compared to Lawrence, Chris Tucker in Shanghai Noon is chill and taciturn. And I longed for Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon or Samuel L. Jackson in Die Hard 3. It's astonishing how little chemistry Smith and Lawrence have in the now fourth film of the series. Since part 1, there has been no real character development; they remain two unpleasantly toxic dudes who are never taken seriously as people. Where in Lethal Weapon over the 4 parts a real family atmosphere developed and even Riggs went from being an asshole to a human being, Mike and Marcus remain the same cardboard cutouts. Marcus can't do anything and is always the butt of the joke, Mike can't do much either, but thinks he's cooler for it. What their wives see in them remains a mystery, but they're only there to give them compliments and get kidnapped. God forbid they could somehow defend themselves. The best role in the film and the most sympathetic character is, ironically, Mike's son Armando, played by Jacob Scipio, who doesn't let his character become a complete stereotype and actually goes through something like a character arc. Joe Pantoliano as the villain also does a good job, although he doesn't have much to do. It's not great, but better than what the other characters deliver, stumbling through the film between pathos and babbling until another bad action scene comes along. An unpleasant sidestory is Mike's PTSD panic attacks, introduced as a major dramatic element - only to be resolved with a "Now pull yourself together, be a real man and not a pussy" slap-slap like in "Fack Ju Göhte 2". Yes, this is retro cinema, resistant to learning until the end. Who the real bad guy is should be clear after 10 minutes and is about as surprising as the sexist pussy-licking jokes in a Bad Boys film. In the end, we are left with self-satisfied mass-produced goods that fall short of what we get in many TV series today. Bro-action for the generation "We should still be able to watch that" - and with that, Bad Boys remains somehow true to itself. The bargain bin series of the buddy genre. Now with even more Skittles.
