Beast is conceptually the quintessential x-men character. A hulking feral looking creature who's actually a sensitive and brilliant person. It really needs a better big screen depiction.

Kelsey Grammer's Beast was so fascinating because behind all that makeup and prosthetics and blue, you could see not just a person, but a smart, dignified human being that wasn't just smart, but more than anything, he was HUMAN. I think subsequent versions of Beast have failed at this (outside of animation of course, where he's always given his due, thankfully).

He's the true best representation of,beyond what's on the surface level ,lays the true character of a well distinguished gentleman, not afraid to fight for what's right, but always willing to talk and be diplomatic It helps that he looks badass

This fact also does a lot of worldbuilding, because we never need an explanation for why Beast is very much the public face of mutants. He's inescapably a mutant, but can also overcome that - exactly who you want advocating for mutant rights.

I agree. His voice for Beast is great. Though he hasn't even had the chance to voice him since between 2013 and 2019 we didn't get the X-Men in anything but the 20th Century Fox movies, The Gifted, Legion (series), and the Marvel comic books, and even then it seems that they were downplaying mutants in the books and trying to replace them with Inhumans.

The reason why Beast can switch between forms is explained in DOFP, Beast explains that he uses enough of the serum to keep himself balanced, while Charles overdoes it and therefore loses his powers(plus during the finale of the film Beast injects himself with like 10 needles of the stuff and turns back to normal and doesn’t get detected by the sentinels, and since he didn’t do that without the serum it means he presumably has to take the serum every time he wants to go back to looking normal

I don't think Hoult's Beast was bad at all. He's actually given a lot to do in the movies. Compared to other X-Men characters who're just there to showcase their powers and show little personality. He's significantly younger than Kelsey's Beast so he's not gonna mirror the traits of his older self. He was still growing. Its also important to note that First Class was a movie that had a very short production deadline. Yet it ended up being 1 of if not the best in the X-Men movie franchise. Matthew Vaughn doesn't get enough credit for it. They literally stole the credit from him when they robbed him of Days of Future Past and gave it to Bryan Singer. A movie that he spent a lot of time writing but was once again rushed out by the studio.

The problem with the X-Men transferring to the MCU tho is that god forbidden scene in Multiverse of Madness where Scarlet Witch no diffs the illuminati. Makes me not even care about any potential X-Men, Fantastic Four, or Inhumans connections because their leaders got punked and looked weak asf. Yeah it was done to make Scarlet Witch look unstoppable but when none of those characters had any presence before that scene it's all we have and our first memory will be them getting shit on. Now as for the topic of the video, Nicholas Holt could have been amazing as Beast for he is a spectacular actor (similar to Miles Teller in Fant4stic 2015) but it seems that Brian Singer didn't seem to understand that his characterization in X-Men First Class was just how he was when he was a young man and he should have already been more like The Last Stand Beast by the time Days of Future Past takes place. Kelsey Grammer Beast is great, one of the best parts of the film.

The scene in x3 where Beast meets Leech is incredible, and kelsey grammer nails it. You can tell it took Hank a long time and a lot of soul-searching to come to terms with his mutation, and hes probably wished many times that he could just be human, and seeing his own non-blue, non-furry hand just brings it all back. He manages to hold it together infront of the kid, but by the time he gets back to the doctor, he's visibly shaken. Amazing scene

Younger Beast should have had the exact same personality as Kelsey Grammer's older Beast. Some people don't take decades to figure themselves out. Young beast could easily work coming off as a learned old scientist, in fact it would be fresh. He'd just be an old soul who reads a lot and enjoys the classics and philosophy, at 20 years old.

I always imagine the Beast Nicolas Hoult portrayed was still in his beginnings. He was discovering himself and the change through which he went. He felt awkward and WAS awkward.Grammer's beast was mature and grounded. He knew how to play with his skills and felt, in fact, that he was used to being beast. That's why it seemed natural. I think it's a fair sequence to development of the character and is the natural course of how things should go. If you think of it that way, It'll give you peace, I'm sure.

10:48 in order to fit that into the theory that Grammar's Beast can change at will, you could just say he was surprised he was changing because he himself wasn't doing it. In another words, he was less surprised about his hand turning back to normal, and more surprised by leech's anti mutant ability

That deleted scene when Beast recites Shakespeare is probably better than any of the new trilogy beast, he was played well by Nicolas Hoult, but the character was written with just the basics of the character and no flavour also the design was too werewolf, which worked ok when it was set in the 70's but not that well in the other movies

As soon as I heard the name I instantly went to google to find out if it was the same guy.

I also thought that it would make more sense if they gave a reason on why he was so close to Xavier, like had a scene where Xavier did something to make himself important for beast

Kelsey Grammer will always be beast in my heart. It was one of the few X-Men characters that I think did justice of the 90s cartoon show when it comes to beast act physically not as physically muscular. But I also think that might’ve been because of Kelsey playing Zozi in Bartok the magnificent because a possible hero is such a good song. I wish it was longer.

I don't think the actor they got for young beast was even the right body shape. I always imagined pre-blue Beast as far stockier. They also failed to really convey the size of his feet, much less his hands. His feet should have been so big he couldn't wear shoes and his hands so large he had issues handling small things like books and pens/pencils. He should have had a LOT more body hair too. All of this would have better gone towards the assumptions he has to deal with that he is unintelligent, particularly from anti-mutant racists. (I felt that other than the bar scene in the first film and the scene in X2 with The Drakes, the films really failed to show regular people being racist and hateful. It was all about the government and nazis, but there wasn't much in the way of the hatred of neighbors and families. The hate that I think would hurt the most on a personal level.) Back to Mr McCoy, seeing him deal with the assumptions of those around him that he's a mindless... well, "beast" as he struggles to prove his intelligence to people who see him only as a monster. Like the narrator of this video, I agree that he DEFINITELY shouldn't have been able to switch from human to blue at will, but I also think they should have waited to make him fuzzy until a later prequel film.

it's dumb that he can change back. the irony adds so much depth to his character imo. in trying to look normal, beast made himself stand out even more, losing the ability to even pass as a normal human. his insecurity and self-hatred made his life even harder. having the ability to look normal kinda removes that aspect i think lol

If they were going to make him CGI, they should have given him a design that required it. I’m pretty sure Beast being able to transform into his blue form, even with the serum, is explained. Hank tells Logan that he takes only a little bit of it. While Charles is pretty much straight addicted and takes it non stop. That’s probably why Hank can still control his mutations while Charles can’t.

You know he’s taking less mean that you can change unlike Xavier he’s taking more which means that you can’t change at this point and it’s really interesting thing and it helps the vibes the film it helps the plant helps characters but I think from then on he should’ve just been blue sword ruins the film. It ruins the message that they gave that .

6:05, The biggest justification for Cat Beast is this more animalistic look kind of pairs well with this earlier Hank on a thematic level. This is the monster Hank sees himself as, and with his continued usages of serums and his growth towards accepting the affects of his mutant condition on his appearance, not only is he able to switch between his bestial and human form at will, but his bestial form also becomes less animalistic, less monstrous. 10:28, Of course, the various continuity issues with this franchise that essentially make each of its post-Last Stand installments their own separate continuities means Nicholas Hoult’s Hank doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with Kelsey Grammer’s Hank beyond Days Of Future Past’s epilogue, meaning attempting to connect his past iterations to the one in Last Stand wouldn’t really work either way.

Everyone wonders why we get such bad superhero movies. Stop taking random potshots for no reason. If you didn't like movie move on and they won't continue to triple down out of spite. If you just leave it alone, they'll be motivated to make something different. If you keep giving it legs like you all do, why should they stop?

What a bizarre comment. If a movie studio decide to “triple down” after receiving negative film criticism then that’s just a bad financial decision on their part. Movies won’t get better just because you stop talking about their flaws.
