It amazes me how many shops will put a car back together after making things worse and offer nothing to their customers except, “Have a nice day”. Your shop is showing the work they it does…literally. No question that you care about the repeat customer. I remember back in the day, I think it was Ford, the slogan, “Quality is job one”. You definitely take that one to heart. You do take some shortcuts, but it never cuts into the level of your work…and it’s entertaining.😁

Ray ! This design is a NIGHTMARE! (but a GOLDMINE for a service Tech) 😂 I can NOT believe how hard it is to remove that passenger side valve cover. The driver's side wasn't that easy either. This repair gave me FLASHBACKS of changing out KNOCK SENSORS on GM engines. I saw your hesitation about replacing the oil cooler, probably due to $$$. However, just like the KNOCK SENSORS I mentioned, the labor costs involved in a second(or THIRD) teardown make this job VERY EXPENSIVE. GOOD CALL on your part for the aluminum oil cooler housing.
@herjeeplife9 ай бұрын
I recently did this exact job on my friend’s 2015 Wrangler. Both valve covers were leaking but the there was something bigger leaking as evident from below, just like this Sahara. I tore down the intake manifolds and found lots of oil in the valley too. They had upgraded to the aluminum oil filter housing a year prior. I originally was diagnosing and repairing a 5V ref intermittent fault that I was able to trace to the oil pressure sender. The oil cooler was leaking oil between the cooler and the housing, not from the housing unit itself. Those Dorman figure 8 replacement seals are crap. OEM seals for the housing and cooler are red. I noticed how stiff the Dorman figure 8 seals were compared to OEM. As soon as you turned the cooler sideways, oil poured out of it. Also, the Sahara’s driver side valve cover was replaced with, what appears to be a Fel-pro gasket kit, as their spark plug gaskets are brown. The OEM valve cover gaskets and cam sensor seals are black, as seen on the passenger side. The Fel-pro cam sensor gasket is blue as seen on the driver side. Therefore, only the driver side valve cover was previously attempted to be fixed. Be sure to replace that PCV valve as that’s part of the problem under that valve cover. Great work!!

Pentastar engine…🤦🏻♂️ Our shop has performed several of these oil cooler replacements. We’ve used an all aluminum Dorman cooler and it leaked. It was determined their O rings were cheap (probably Chinese knock off?) We reverted to the Chrysler cooler since the part was revised and used their O rings. It’s a lot of work to access this part, I certainly hope this works out for Ray. I’ve seen him use the Dorman cooler on other Pentastar engine repairs.

@@davidbaize4825 Part of the benefit of being able to comment on a video is to educate - and I don't mean that condescendingly. Ray tends to get down on the Pentastar in his videos, because he has worked on a few bad ones, but they really are a great engine. Good power, good fuel economy, good longevity, smooth and quiet. Relatively easy to work on. Every engine has good things and bad things. The "bad" things with the Pentastar are the oil cooler - which is a pretty simple fix - and cam lobe wear on some of them. That's a harder fix, but also not catastrophic. It doesn't happen to many of them. This engine is literally in millions of vehicles on the road now. It is in its 14th year of production with only one major revision - rare in terms of engines these days. Many of these engines will go well beyond 200k miles with minimal issues. Every mechanic has his biases. Ray originally insulted Fords as much as anything - but his friendship with Arod from Powerstroke Tech Talk has caused his opinion to change a bit. Anyway, buy whatever you like, but taking one youtube mechanic's word is not the best option. See scotty kilmer, for example.

Back in my younger days we started a racing club that would race street rods at the drag strip about fifteen miles from us. When we would meet in one of the local towns and drive where all the locals would cruise on weekends. When doing this we would have rubber chickens and throw them into other members cars when passed the or ended up next to each other at a stoplight. We also did a thing with pint jars and tropical fish. That we set on the center line of the street at the stoplights and either we put one down or picked it up, depending on if one was there or not. I thought about doing that with the girls we riding with us but we all decided to nix that in a hurry because of the trouble factor. You mentioning the ducks in the jeeps reminded me of the crazy old days.

Will wonders never cease? So this Ray, of light, sounds like a Quality Control, expert. A, QC Manager. I certainly was. For, a legendary manufacturer. And so raise sounds very, seasoned, he's experienced, he's knowledgeable, informed, swift. I love that about RainMan Ray. He reminds me of me. I was real good at what I did. And for over five decades that's 50+ years. I was no-nonsense. When you know you know. When you're good, you're good. And when people have looked to you. For your expertise. Knowing that you are knowledgeable and highly seasoned. People all know we always get it right. We gain a reputation. A good reputation. Like I'm certain Ray, has. Yup. You know it. You can hear it. He reminds me of me. And so more power to you, Sir. And your customers and clientele. For taking their precious vehicle to a person who knows, what they are doing. As incompetence is quite rife. And you can see some right there. Under the hood. Under the bonnet. Ugh! As those little things do make a difference. And we all know it. Such as when things are loose and not secured. They can resonate with the vibrations. Which can interrupt, airflow. And since an engine is nothing more than,, and air pump. You don't want anything interrupting that flow of air. With nonresident vibrations. Nobody thinks that's important? It is! They are dummies. And so this guy,, Ray, doesn't just remind me of me. I also find resemblance to, Scotty Kilmer.! A true character indeed. With, like me over 50 years of experience. Who I love to follow also. Because he reminds me of me. We are both highly experienced and retired, Engineers. Though mine is not in mechanics. It's in, Major Network Television Broadcasting and Live Recordings and Broadcasts. Studio design, fabrication, construction, maintenance, operations. And it just cannot be amateur hour.. As NBC under the tutelage of RCA. Only hired the best engineers in the world.. And they hired me back in 1981. Really? I'm a good engineer? Who knew? And to tell me they want me sticking around for a while. For what was only supposed to be a short 4 month,, contract job. Quickly turned into, 20 years. As they wanted to keep me on board. And I let them. I knew who I was working for. The first, the best, the biggest, the most advanced, in the world. That led the way. Also manufacturing their own equipment, at RCA. When I got there. We had RCA Everything. But it was time to get some new stuff. And RCA was no longer manufacturing, Equipment. And so it's truly great and heartwarming. To see somebody like Ray, here. Actually figure out what is wrong! Bravo! Remember when jeeps were easy to service? Kind of like a VW beetle. What the hell is with this mess? How is anybody supposed to service this, complicated mess of, inaccessiblabilities. Chrysler ingenuity! Ugh! I think the only good thing that ever came up with was the Chrysler Turbine Car. I had one. That almost rolled over my feet. As I was crossing 11 Mile Road and Woodward Ave. in Detroit. Where I lived and was raised as a kid until I was 15. And deeply into the, car scene. As my dad took me to all the Auto Shows at, Cobo Hall. The stock auto shows. The custom auto shows. And the hydrofoil, races. On the Detroit River. It was Awesome. As a kid growing up in Detroit. From the mid-1950s throughout the 1960s. When Detroit was King of the Cars. And people had lives in nice middle-class jobs. It was a fruitful era. For the citizens of Detroit. It was Awesome. Back in the day. When we actually stood for something. Now? I don't know what this Jeep thingy is? It's sure no Jeep. It's just another overly complex, car. With a Jeep Facia. Jeep, look. But not really a Jeep. I mean what Jeep has air conditioning? They don't have a top generally. So they need no air conditioning. This is a Jeep Pussy Car. It's not a Jeep. It only looks like one. To fool everybody. As a Jeep only has a 4 cylinder motor. That is easily, serviced. That's not this. I got to use a Jeep CJ-2. In the summer of 1987. Now that was simple to maintain. That was an actual Jeep. It had no top. Which could be problematic during cloudburst's. As I experienced a couple of those. Ugh! No top! And you look weird. When you're sitting there at a red light getting poured upon. I mean what do you do? You smile at people gawking at you. To let them know you enjoy your Jeep experience fully. But I was happy to get my Chevy conversion van back out of the shop. It has a roof on it. It has a bed in the back. It's got seating for 7. And fun to take your friends out for rock 'n' roll shows. Not so much in a Jeep CJ-2. So I'm more of a Van Dweller. It's got a roof. It's got secure storage. It's not a Jeep. RemyRAD

After having to replace multiple fuel injectors on my 2015 Jeep I ended up slotting the holes on that back bracket to make it a little easier for future removal of that intake.

A small child plastic swimming pool works great for catching anti-freeze and eliminating mess on floor and you can use it for many years if kept out of weather...

For that lower bolt on the PCV, I think some people have had decent luck removing the wheel liner and going in from the wheel well. I'm changing mine this weekend and that's my plan of attack.

Imagine having to do all this work without power tools, as I used to do many years ago, as a DIY mechanic.

204th! Have a great Monday Ray and your super wife unit. And that also goes for the new employees. Not a Jeep fan. And watching your efforts to diagnose let alone fix it was a nightmare and bolstered my opinion of the brand. I wish you all the best in fixing this mess. Roger in Pierre South Dakota

You can do the passenger side without pulling the battery. You have to pull the fender liner out on that side, but the coolant lines have to be undone

I'll be saving this video. I e owned my 2015 wrangler for 9 years now, no leaks fingers crossed.

Yet another repair that requires so much disassembly to get to the engine parts. Again, Ray, you do not hesitate to remove what's needed. Thanks for the Lauren cameo added in. Love them being required! lol 😄

Didn't even have to watch the video. the oil filter housing/oil cooler. They are plastic and crack when you over tighten the oil filter. They also twist and cause O rings to leak They have good aluminum ones that are stronger. I just changed on a 18 jk sport. 95000 miles. Good job Rainman

Ray - Sadly I’ve haven’t had a chance to watch you lately. I have a 2018 JLU with the 3.6 and could resist the entertaining video. Would like to say thanks and good to see the wife unit too. Y’all take care.

I’ve thought several times watching you work how much time and pain it takes to just get access to the problem. Makes me miss my first car 1966 Pontiac Catalina “boat”. So simple back then (says the old geezer!)

Thinking someone tried the old '1/4 turn of the valve cover bolts to stop the leak' trick. Which doesn't work in modern cars, obviously.

The one thing about Ray is I don't hear him complain about how bad his back hurts when working on stuff.
