You should engage the dtc mode in winter and you wont have a problem. I drive BMWs in Germany and even went a ski trip with rwd, never had an issue, even went out in the snow storm to drift. Ok, we have winter tires, but really rwd was absolutely no problem. The magic in BMWs RWD is a 50-50 weight distribution. If it was a FWD it would have the same grip.. Its a shame that so many people don't read the manual. This is the reason rwd cars have such a bad reputation in winter.
@DiRT3Xbox3605 жыл бұрын
Even with the same weight distribution it would still be "easier" to drive a fwd car, because you wont loose control as easy under acceleration as with a rwd car. On the other hand your car is prone to understeer in corners because the front tires will have to turn the car as well as drive the car, or if you keep your foot off the pedal but the gear engaged, the front tires have to drive the engine... So... It is actually "saver" to have a rwd car if you either are very gentle with accelerating, use the traction control or simply just know how to drive one... Its not that hard... Btw, driving without winter tires in the snow is stupid and irresponsible to all people in traffic, no matter what car you have. Your car just wont brake at all and you will hit basically anything in an urgent situation. (Unless you have a clear runway in front of you)
@georgim27415 жыл бұрын
@@DiRT3Xbox360 Yes, that is right. FWD design is meant to have more traction ot slippery conditions. Summer tyres just do not grip on snow, so you need winter tyres. I have tested a summer tyre on little snow, and could go nowhere, then with the winter tyre had enough grip to go on.

The best is surprising people struggling in their FWD cars having trouble on hills, when you drive right by them with snow tires. Or people that are behind you going, "hahaha BMW, watch him get stuck" and it doesn't happen. You just keep going and going. And they are disappointed and frustrated. Drove nothing but RWD BMWs in the northeast for over 20 years with snows..... that's a real car..... The way they used to be for a LONG time.... Front-Engine Rear-Drive was the norm from the late 1800s to early 1980s (then FWD was becoming more common). Nothing like preserving the tradition of real cars, which takes skill and dedication.

It's funny how people say they don't need winter tires. YES, you can drive perfectly fine without them if you're careful, but facts are that proper winter tires will tremendously increase grip and handling, and affect braking ability extremely, so in an emergency you will NOT have the same handling as winter tires gives you. You're far more likely to crash your car should you have to do any kind of fast manuver if you don't have proper tires. No, not if you buy the $30 winter tire or if you found them laying around from 5 years ago. There's no point in arguing, hundreds of millions of dollars has been put into developing good tires for cold environments and there's a huuuge difference even if you probably coud manage to get around without them.

I drive an mercedes w213 rwd every winter, with studded winter tires and I have no problem what so ever. Don't complain about rwd, complain about the tires okay

So basically the same as driving a car with defective brakes and steering 🤦🏻♂️ dangerous

Driving on summer tires in the snow is not very smart. All those people that were passing him while he was stuck were on all seasons. A good example of how dangerous summer tires are. Ask him if he would do that again.

He would definitely fail driving in Winterpeg! Feels good that Americans get a taste of winter, rather than making wise cracks about Canadian Winters.

I'm originally from Portage la Prairie, but now live in Victoria, BC where there's snow for like a few days and then it's gone.

Dude try not to use your wipers to throw the snow off. Quick way to buy another motor for them.
