As a Medic Main, This KILLS me inside. Archimedes was my very first cosmetic I got for Medic, And I love him. I have never taken him off my loadout. He will stay there, Until the end of time. Until my account is deleted, Or Steam itself is deleted.

I believe what's going on is that the Medic is grieving over his lost friend. To escape the reality of their death, Medic uses drugs to escape the truth. But the memory comes back and the Medic is spilt into two. One Medic wants to enslave the memory and grieve over their friends death forever, the other wants to let go of the friend and enjoy the times they had. This clash results in the "evil" side taking the friend, displaying that medic can't let go over the death. He then tries to attack the "evil" side of him to free the memory, which is Medic trying to move on. But then the "evil" side grabbing Medic and about to drop him down a clif, this cliff is depression and Medic is about to go into depression over the death. Then the thought of his friend and the good times comes back to prevent this. After killing the idea of enslaving the memory, Medic then enjoys the time with his friend and let's him go.

Before I knew this video existed, I had adopted a dying baby chicken, as a Medic fan, I named him Archimedes. It was flooding outside, his mother had stepped on him and left him to drown, I saw two little feet sticking up from the mud, and I ran out and saved him. Archimedes came to me by fate, in a time when I had no one, he didn't have anyone either. I took him in, and he became my best friend.. 5 months pass, he'd never fully recovered from the event. He didn't want to socialize or leave my side. He was surviving, but he was so depressed. He just wanted to sleep on me. Last day, He looked up at me, he had such big dark brown beautiful eyes, unlike any chicken I've seen, and just looked into mine, and he looked so sad. I realized, he'd been holding onto life for me, and how damn selfish I'd been. I held him under my chin (his favorite spot) and told him "You don't have to stay.." He died in his sleep five minutes later, but those last five minutes he spent peeping quietly, nuzzling under my chin. So now on shuffle, this video pops up, and brought back the memory of how badly I wanted to keep Archimedes with me, and the pain of accepting I had to let him go.

If watch carefully, after the Medic loads the syringe with the bad medicine he places the nearly full jar next to two other jars that almost empty. Based on that observation, this was not the first drug trip that the Medic took to reunite with his beloved pet. However, this drug trip quickly turns into a bad one. My interpretation is that this drug induced encounter with Death is the last drug trip the Medic ever takes since the Medic has finally accepted his pet's passing.

I discovered this when I was 12 or so. I'm 20 now and just revisited it for the first time in years. To me, it's an icon of a simpler point in my life when creators like Jerma and Star_, VenturianTale, and Stampylonghead were my go-to's for entertainment after school. It (and your other portal themed videos) was one of the first fan-made SFM movies I ever saw and introduced me to the weird and wonderful world of Gmod/SFM machinimas. I love this video so much and hope I can revisit it for many more years to come.

Honestly kind of yeah. Putting the medic particles on the invisible bird model so I could animate it felt like a really high end trick and I dont know that I ever saw anybody ever attempt it. I think when everything is harder to do, solutions become more creative, and this was the wild west early days of SFM Same goes for alot of early TF2 pieces, and especially Gmod pieces that have to get even MORE creative.

I've seen this SFM so many times and I've just now noticed that when Archimedes brings the Medic back the amputator, the rain in the background freezes. And once he kills the reaper, the rain returns to normal before disappearing entirely. Amazing attention to detail.

This makes it even sadder considering that there are many people that consider the Medic a sociopath. He takes pleasure in inflicting pain (sadism) and sees people more of test subjects (objects) than human beings. Sociopaths also tend to push people away from themself and are almost incapable of feeling empathy or love. What often makes them complete outsiders. Meaning that Archimedes is probably the only living creature that he actually loved, and the only being that loved him back.

In my opinion, this short video is an evaluation of anger itself. The medic was angry because of a failed experiment seen in the first part of the video. He takes a drug to escape, but finds that his negative emotions have followed him. He fights against his past failures and bad memories. He is overcome by grief, ready to give up, when one happy memory brings back his will to fight. In a single, swift stroke, his anger peaks as he lets go of his past. He succeeded in killing the beast, but the beast was always himself.

I think that the Medic felt that living without Archimedes meant nothing. Mixing a lethal agent with a hallucinogen allowed him to fantasize a little about seeing Archimedes again. But Death quickly interrupts his little dream as his body gives in sooner than he thought. Having that little fight with Death allowed him to be with Archimedes just a little longer, until he finally rested on that tombstone one last time.

Your alternate ending on the first video makes for a much better quality version. Having the Solemn Vow show Do No Harm is a great emotional feel, whereas this the chopping of the plague doctor's head was so blunt and unexpected it was almost comedic. It really fits the medic's playstyle of Do No Harm to have him heal the Plague Doctor, and it makes sense. Because the bird was caught in the cage, yet still handed him the blade? Please, reconsider mixing your alternate storyline with your finished product's style.

Perhaps this is actually a metaphor and we're not to take it literally. Perhaps this is about how people will do anything to revisit the loved ones they've lost. Medic's fight with "death" could represent how although we may have lost someone, we will never truly accept that they're gone. Even the desperate look on Medic's face to save his pet bird could represent the desperation and helplessness we feel inside when we lose someone. Damn.. This reminded me how many little friends i lost i had a dream similar to his years ago but it wasn't induced by drugs rather falling asleep after a traumatic event in that night.. There in the dream i saw all of them along with my grandma (who's also dead) looking back at me giving me this weird.. expression. i can't put it into words but it felt like they're reassuring me of something? When i reached out my hand to them they quickly turned their backs to me and started walking away So.. naturally like Medic here i wanted to be with them i tried to run towards the light they're vanishing into with all my might but something black and inky grabbed my limbs i struggled but to no avail it successfully pulled me back into darkness and i woke up..

I used to have a bird but it died a couple of years ago when I was 7 that same night it died I had a dream like this video except without the medic gun and I fell but when I fell I kissed my birds head and I threw it so it could fly away as I saw it flying away everything turned black and I woke up...this video made me cry when I first saw it I couldn't stop crying it made me feel so happy...but sad......

Here's the story: When Archimedies died, the medic was overwhelmed by grief, causing him to commit suicide with "bad medicene" in order to escape his sadness. When he dies, Archimedies comes back to him, in ghost form. The masked medic represents Death, and tries to take Archimedies to Heaven or Hell. The medic then tries to fight back, attempting to free his bird from its own fate. When Death is holding the medic over the black abyss, the ghost of Archimedies escapes, and gives the medic his weapon, which he uses to kill Death. Him and his bird then live in eternal happines, on the border of Heaven.
