Well, it is finally here - and it took a lot of very hard work. This video was about two months in the making, with the editing being some of the most challenging purely because not only am I re-editing relatively limited trailer footage, selecting individual shots to sync with my comments, but I'm also doing picture-in-picture and re-cropping each shot as well. Filming was also extensive as well, as I filmed the on-camera segments for six hours over two days, and I did additional re-shoots in early February when I added sections and replaced a movie in the Best list. Even the 34 second opening titles was about 5 hours work and features quick snippets of 40 movies - if you kept up with what I reviewed this year, many will be recognisable. Because of the sheer size of the project, I even struggled to get it to render out, having to eventually do so in seven minute chunks and then rendering them all back together. So this is definitely one of the toughest episodes I've ever done, even by the standard of these year-end retrospectives, which is why they usually come out so late. If you subscribe to my Patreon, I've uploaded the full script, as well as the alternative footage for the discarded review in the Best list. FULL CHAPTERS/MINI-REVIEWS 0:00 Intro 1:50 Avengers: Endgame and comic book movies 3:07 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 3:43 Disney remakes 5:17 Netflix and streamers 6:35 Manson Movies 7:48 Worst Movies of 2019 8:27 6 Underground 10:12 Cats 11:59 Godzilla: King of the Monsters 13:45 The Haunting of Sharon Tate 15:41 Hellboy 17:17 Killers Anonymous 18:51 Love is Blind 20:54 The Queen's Corgi 22:34 Serenity 24:12 Sextuplets 25:50 Best Movies of 2019 26:03 Avengers: Endgame 27:39 Diego Maradona 29:19 Dolemite is My Name 30:50 The Irishman 32:42 Knives Out 34:15 Little Women 35:47 Marriage Story 37:26 Parasite 38:57 Rocketman 40:36 Uncut Gems 42:06 Outro/Credits

@UCUSpzp0scaZ8AKhWDlNVzuwDo you think its any worse the Godzillas revenge or Godzilla 97. Or how convoluted Final War was? I felt like it fell right in line with other Godzilla films. I loved the movie, my only problem was something that I see in a lot of movies nowadays, the whole "We're destroying ourselves through war and pollution, so we should let the threat destroy us" Venom, Watchmen, Kingsman, Infinity War, all movies that have the villains say that or a variation of that. We get it, you're trying to have social commentary, but that trend is annoying and stupid and it needs to stop.

Don't blame the film because you didn't think it smarter to just see it in 2d.

Going to push back slightly on Godzilla: KotM. The movie is salvageable if you completely ignore the newspaper articles from the end credits. Alternatively, you could say the articles that parrot what crazy lady was saying during the movie are from tabloid-level rags that are using conspiracy to sell papers. Honestly, the movie was doing a good job of selling her as a crazy lady seeking redemption up until those credits.

10:13 what was hilarious about Cats in the uk was that the BBC ran an article saying fans loved the movie at the premier and had several radio tie ins-so they kept saying 'oh the audience will love it and what do critics know', despite the fact the audience wasn't interested in this mess either. 14:45 Nice to see you rip this clinical piece of crap appart. 18:43 Glad you mentioned that. Oldmen is just in captivity the entire time while poor Olga Kurylenko slums it too. It does make you wonder if he's that hard up for money. Hope he doesn't got the bruce willis route [you should really do a special on those movies as your letterboxd reviews on them are hilarous]. 29:21 Nice to see Murphy back doing what he's good at rather than those clinical family movies in the 90's+ 00's 38:57 I generally think Dexter Fletcher probably saved the queen movie by taking it over [should have been the director from day one]

Also I'm sticking strictly to theatrical releases as I'm well behind on catching up with stuff on my streaming services, but I'm hoping to catch-up by the end of the year at earliest or end of the decade at latest. Also unlike my list for 2018, I couldn't get my combined best and runner-up best films or my combined worst and runner-up worst films list to reach 10 films each, so I also adding a honorable mentions part after my runner up best films to make-up for it.) Best Films: * Avengers: Endgame * Frozen II * Shazam * Toy Story 4 Runner-Up Best Films: * Godzilla: The King of Monsters * Good Boys * Knives Out * Last Christmas * The Lego Movie Part 2: The Second Part Honorable Mentions: * Abominable * Alita: Battle Angel * Blinded By The Light * Cats * Dora and the Lost City of Gold * Long Shot * Maleficent: Mistress of Evil * Rocketman * Wonder Park * Zombieland: Double Tap Runner-Up Worst Films: * Charlie's Angels * Cold Pursuit * Horrible Histories: The Movie: Rotten Romans * Men in Black: International * Spider-Man: Far From Home Worst Film: * 21 Bridges ….so here's to 2020.

Remember back in 2014-2015 when it seemed like your worst lists had to include the obligatory British TV show film adaptation? I'm starting to notice another trend with your worst-of lists: infuriating monster movie sequels to already polarising predecessors (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Alien: Covenant, Godzilla: King of the Monsters). I know it's probably just a coincidence but still. It's weird that your last three worst of the year lists have had films like that on them.

I wouldn't put 6 Underground worse than Star Wars Rise of Skywalker. 6 Underground was certainly a very cynical brainless action-dumpster fire. But it was enjoyable as that, had no pretense of being anything else and you just knew that Michael Bay had a blast making it. Rise of Skywalker, while certainly the more ambitious and far more technical competent movie, felt like a kick in the groin, knowing that this is supposed to be the culmination of the biggest Film-Franchise out there. 6 Underground at least didn't wreck anything and could be watched as a turn-off-your brain kind of movie.

While it has its issues, 6 Underground was at least enjoyable in a guilty pleasure kind of sense and I was never really bored even when things slow to a crawl. With Rise of Skywalker, I keep checking my phone every few minutes, uninterested in what happens in the overall plot.

Scorcese's remarks had a couple of missteps, but most notably: it's clear he's talking about superhero movies in general, but namedrops "Marvel" (not Disney, notice) to try and make it more specific while not really saying much. The other is the clear bitterness he has at the fact that superhero movies are all studios want, while his gangster epic had to """"lower"""" itself to being on a streaming service. He's a helluva filmmaker, but it's important to remember that he's neither a critic nor a neutral party, so patterning oneself after his tastes can be a risky venture. And I had a friend tell me the "Serenity" twist, and I literally burst out laughing before saying, "You are FUCKING kidding me." He wasn't.

I don't think He'll ever like superhero films, I mean the man doesn't even want to watch Joker, a film he once upon a time was producing before he decided to work on The Irishman.

I actually liked 6 Underground and Godzilla King Of The Monsters but I agree with you the rest of the 2019 movies you mentioned sucked did indeed suck I disagree with the lighting and I was able to see the fight scenes in Godzilla King Of The Monsters just fine, but to each their own. Also what did you think about Godzilla Vs Kong?
@FilmBrain Жыл бұрын
I thought Godzilla vs. Kong was fine when I caught up with it, a while after it came out. It didn't give me a headache like KOTM, and was fun in it's silliness as opposed to obnoxious.

I am still curious to watch Cats if not as a furry (these designs are even repulsive to us furries, the human faces kill it) but just to see what this trainwreck is even about. The musical barely has a story after all.

Matthew , I finally understand why you don't post so much on KZbin anymore after reading through the comments. Wow, these are some of the dumbest / entitled people on KZbin. This guy goes to all this trouble to post this ( for little compensation )& 3/4 of comments are people asking for something else of randomly complaining or trying to " correct people " to sound smart. Ugh. 😷 I have been inspired to stop looking at comments. FN A

Six Underground was so messy, weird and a few parts were so boring that I FALLED ASLEEP; no joke! Not a good sigh if you plan to do an action movie and your audience falls asleep. The characters were not developped at all, except 1 who's the hero. The rest are so bland and unfunny that i forgot their names, knew nothing about their past and ambitions|dreams or even tastes. I didn't care for any of them! The action scenes were too rushed and quick, i had a hard time to follow them and concentrate. There was a sex scene in the middle, i think; she come out of nowhere and didn't move hte plot forward. What was the point? It wasn't interresting or funny, it was confusing! The movie is too long, after fourty minutes i yawned then falled asleep. It was that bad! The scene on the boat at the end was fun with the explosions and the giant magnet but that's all i liked; the rest was a mess U-U Mickeal Bay is really bad for character development, cool action and humor. He's even worst than in Transformers; yeah the mvoies were stupid but i never sleep when i watch them! I didn't saw Cats and not plan to watch it, reviews are enough to satisfy me and way better than the movie :) Also, they are funnier and more interresting than the final product!
