This episode was originally posted in August 2011, and was filmed during London Film and Comic Con, and this re-post ties into the release of prequel Leatherface on VOD on Friday. This version runs 42 seconds shorter than the original, thanks mostly to tightening up the pacing and film clips. As a concession to KZbin, I did trim back two or three of the most violent moments - no shots are deleted, more just removing frames or shortening them - although I don't think it changes the tone overall. There's a joke here I probably would have cut, but it would have deleted quite a few cameos in the process. Hope you enjoy! And before you ask... yes, the other one's coming up soon.

I assume the scene in question is the rape joke? I get that deleting all the cameos would suck, but honestly I think it would be better without it for the sake of staying consistent with your criticism of the movie being pointlessly exploitative and mean-spiritied. I know you guys probably play up your reactions a bit for comedy, but that joke coupled with your criticism makes your points come off as kinda hypocritical, even if the movie do seem more concerned about being "shocking" than being good or scary for sure
@FilmBrain
@FilmBrain 6 жыл бұрын
That would be the scene. I wouldn't call it one of my best moments, but I did argue to myself that the joke was more about them misinterpreting what we were saying, and it wasn't meant as a shock moment but more as a play on how loud we can sometimes get when doing crossovers in hotels.

There is kind of a explanation to the movie being this way: reportedly John Leibesman wanted to go more into Leatherface's past and if anything make a tasteful origin, but executives didn't like his vision and demanded that he crank up the blood to inhumane levels while cutting out massive chunks of his movie. Then again, the screenwriter did also give us Batman and Robin and the Will Smith I Robot movie, so I don't know what to think

I never really got this torture porn stuff. I did like the Saw movies, even the gorier ones, but I always had some character I was rooting for (for varying reasons) or had a story going on that interested me (yeah, even six, because I wanted to see what shit Hoffman was up to and was hoping Young Indiana Jones got a better ending). I am always seriously sad when people don't make it out. Probably could've done with less gore in most cases, but what's the point to make a movie about characters you know are just going to be horribly murdered? Even worse by people who only do it because they are evil? Jigsaw fascinated me, because he had these weird ideas and didn't do it because he enjoyed torturing people, he honestly believed he was doing what's best for them. I really dug the entire storyline (of varying quality) just to see what happened to our "killers" and each time I wanted to see people make it out and the story behind them.

I never understood why they made this a prequel. The plot is basically the same as the original (okay, every Texas Chainsaw film) with the obvious dead meat characters. And even then, it’s not even like this leads in to the events of the remake (which would be interesting if one of the characters was the one who committed suicide in the remake). They could have just done a sequel and it would likely have been a lot better an idea than this prequel.

22:53 PLUS Leatherface somehow SNEAKS into the car and quietly closes the door without being noticed AND waits until just the right moment (by the Rules of Halfassed Drama) to kill his final victim. This isn't stupidity; it's cynicism presuming the audience is so incredibly stupid as to eat this shit up. Granted, there may be some basis for that presumption, but I wonder how the diminishing returns for TCM knockoffs and Michael Bay crapmakes is faring.

Its nice to watch a review with two of the ''old guard'' of the Channel Awesome. I went back there after a long break recently and I recognised hardly anyone. They're not bad necessarily, but they are nobodies in comparison to the guys and girls from what I like to call the ''Kickassia'' generation. You might be saying ''so what does that matter?'' and I would normally agree, but when your current crop of creators have the presence of just about anyone else with a webcam on KZbin, it becomes less ''Channel Awesome'' and more ''Channel Average''. Its sad tbh, I loved that site once.

I wouldn't say they're terrible as much as it is the net just has more to offer than the 'ANGRY CRITIC' phase that was huge in the late 2000s and early 2010s when everyone wanted to be the next Spoony or Nostalgia Critic. People have moved on and interests have shifted since then. Its not 2008 anymore and a lot of the old guard have either moved on or kept up with their niche fandoms But even then I wouldn't say that its for lack of trying on the new generation's part, if nothing else its up to them to develop their own style and find a footing of their own, especially given that some of them are actually pretty awesome (I say this as a fan of Lotus Prince and Il Neige) But again, you're looking at people of the old guard who've had years to improve since their beginnings like Film Brain (Professor Celluloid anyone?) and most of the other CA contributors vs people who're probably only one or two years into their craft by this point. Its a matter of taste really, you either like them or you don't.

I’ve never really taken to the gore porn stuff. Gore, like many things, can be done well, especially in horror films, but also like many things, if done too much it loses all effect. The original movie utilised very little of the stuff and it was far more disturbing than anything in this film. Heck, Psycho was black and white and it was terrifying, at least for a 1960s audience. Gore can be utilised well. It can be done to shock, disturb or even disgust the audience, possibly show how depraved the villain is, and it can be a little freaky. But there is such a thing as going overboard. Eventually, it ceases to be disturbing, scary or even that shocking. It’s just rather disgusting, and it really shocks me that anyone would want to watch such a thing.
