Summary: Dr. Elaine Frederick has just perfected a way of using maggots to make her test subjects not only look younger, but actually become younger. When they hear of the results of her experiments, her first clients, a team of hispanic neo-nazis, are delighted with the news. It seems they have a very elderly VIP in their group who needs to be rejuvenated before he can begin rebuilding his thousand-year reich. As their plan moves toward its completion, Dr. Frederick's habit of experimenting on stolen corpses begins to attract the attention of an investigative reporter.

'Second tier Bogart and Bacall'. lol. Got that switched, my man. They predated Bogie and Bacall. By the time Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were paired in 'To Have and Have Not' in 1944, Lake and Ladd were already superstars with 'This Gun For Hire' and 'The Glass Key' (both released in 1942). In fact, Bacall was Warner Bros.' response to the success of Veronica Lake. They even made her switch her hair around to look like Lake, with the little 'peek-a-boo' on the side.

Agreed. Didn't really like Bogart or Bacall except for Key Largo and didn't really like Ladd either except for Shane and a very small role in a Lugosi movie early in his career but Veronica Lake was a fascinating movie actress.

For the defense industry Veronica Lake gave up the "peek-a-boo" hairstyle. She was so popular many Rosie Riveters were copying her hairstyle. For some defense industry jobs that wasn't safe so Veronica Lake did her patriotic duty.

That may be right, but Ladd was a somewhat bland and expendable leading man, whereas Bogart just hit the Big time with "The Maltese Falcon" and "Casablanca", two classics everyone on every street corner knows! Ask about "The Glass Key" today! I LOVE the movie, but good luck with that!

The very beautiful Veronica Lake. The first movie I ever saw her in when I was a kid was the funny classic: "I Married A Witch." Loved her with her trademark peek a boo hairstyle, hair combed over one side of her face. During the War, she was asked to change her hairstyle because too many Women working in the factories wore their hair over their eye like she did and it was too dangerous.

I remember seeing something where they showed her getting her different hairstyle. I forget where I saw it but it was a typical wartime propaganda sort of thing that celebrities took part in.

Even as a child, I thought all the fuss over Veronica Lake's hair was strange. My aunt worked in a factory, during WWII, and she pinned up her long hair secretly and word a type of hair net called a snood. No problems. I wonder what the real reason for all the fuss?

I"m confused. Old age is more than wrinkles. How is a facelift, no matter how gross or science-fiction-y, going to "rejuvenate" Hitler, or anybody? That's like repainting your classic car, and thinking that will fix the crap carburetor!

Adding my voice to the choir of other TCM fans who remember Veronica Lake in her film Noir movies and the black and white with Alan Ladd it's always sad to see such a prestigious film star reduced to having to make a movie like this. But she wasn't the first won't be the last.

I wanted to forget this because I had good memories of Veronica Lake. She died in 1973 at the age of 50 from decades of alcohol abuse, hepatitis and acute renal failure. A very odd film, and a terrible one. Thanks for the review.

I really hate to say this, but if Jean Harlow had lived (and presuming that she wouldn't have permanently retired) she probably would have ended up in an awful movie like this.

This may be even more depressing than Tippi Hedren appearing in a film the film Julie an Jack. That movie was made by James Nguyen, the same guy who made Birdemic.

My gosh. Veronica Lake looks quite beautiful in her final movie role. I’m not surprised - but maybe just a little. Perhaps the script was not so good, but she represents herself fairly well.

One thing, though, is Lake seems to have gotten into her role in spite of it being a D film. Those clips from her old movies makes me want to check them out now, she's awesome.

The director could have easily made sure to get extra large gloves instead of letting the film come to a dead stop while the star struggles to put them on.

This film has always been on my back burner, and I am most grateful that Dark Corners would take this silver bullet on my behalf. Many Thanks for all your work! I guess there's an element of sadness to seeing a famous name in such a demeaning film, but as has been said, it was HER project. And not to be disrespectful but for the most part as an actress, Veronica Lake was a very pretty girl. Isn't it strange how there was a period where the most notorious murderer in world history was a frequent go-to plot trope?

Ah so sad veronica lake with that iconic hairdo that so many women imitated in the 40s that the war dept asked her to shear it short because women working in wartime factories were getting their long hair caught in the machinery

A sad end to a once glamorous star who sadly put herself there with her alcoholism. Filmed in 1967 when Veronica was 45 and released in 1970. She looks more like 60, her voice is that of an alcoholic and her rotten teeth frequently are revealed throughout the film..

It's always sad when a star resorts to shlock for money in old age. Though I still think Veronica is cute as hell -- even here.

Why was it every other cheap movie that did know what to do had to throw Hitler/ Nazis into the plot? I mean didn't the writer, the director, producers, actors, Hell even the Best Boy come up with something better or original. Well, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD did have the story Ben told about what happened at Beakman's Dinner.
@VonWenk

Because 20 years after World War II, Nazis in hiding seemed like a plausible threat. Who knew it would still be a possible threat 70 years after the war? Except for the revenge plot, this sounds a lot like The Boys from Brazil or The Frozen Dead.

It's also true of BIG budget movies. Nazis are such a big subject, people probably think there's no such thing as FORCING them into a story, but there is.

I wouldn't go as far as saying ALL the interesting stuff happened before the movie started, but Dead Men Walk had a backstory about a satanic hypnotist corrupting his niece... but opens with his funeral, after which he returns as a vampire, intent on destroying her. We get very little of him actually trying to do that, and very little exploration of WHY.

This movie has such a cool origin what with Lake funding it herself that I wish it was great, and lived up to the mostly offscreen high concept plot. Not hiring Brad 'Radioactive blood-sucking turkey-man who finds religion' Grinter would've been a good start! Haha. At least dialogue like "It's all part of a big revolution in South America. It's very big." is worth a laugh! Glad you 'enjoyed' it, guys! ;)
