Autumn Leaves is a not a bad movie. It's a wonderful romantic film. It's very emotional too.

Perhaps the song had to do with Joan being in the Autumn of her life. At any rate the movie is NOT about a May/December romance but two lonely people who decided they’d love and stick to each other no matter what. Who take love and marriage seriously. Tho fiercely protective of him, she reluctantly realizes her love and good intentions won’t cure his mental illness caused by his horrible life experiences and dysfunctional family. However, their love genuine love does withstand his long institutionalization. I really love that he remembers her kind and understanding heart through the worst of his illness. It’s a beautiful and moving story with Joan being both soft and vulnerable and brave and strong when it’s called for. Cliff Robertson really held his own to her seasoned performance. He projected a passionate yearning, a very convincing portrayal of his desire for her. None of it seemed over the top and frankly I’m puzzled by this glee u both seem to have to ridicule such a sensitive, well done movie.

Ed Margulies died on November 16, 1999 of a heart attack in Los Angeles. He was 48. Stephen Rebello reports on the entertainment business for GQ, L.A. Style, and formerly for Movieline, among others, and is the author of several books.

Crawford was an expert at soap opera melodrama, and excelled at bosom-heaving emoting. Her overwought acting style was perfectly suited to these melodramas. Her strong emotionalism was also suited to horror, as seen in STRAIT JACKET. After she left Warners she bounced around to various studios. Joan was hard working and persistent, if nothing else.

In an interview, Crawford once stated, "No matter how lousy the dialogue, I believed every word of it." Her dramatic intensity and emotional acting style often made the pictures seem better than they were. Writers knew this, and often gave her some memorable lines to emote to.

I liked this one too, but Joan's hairdo and especially her eyebrows have their own zip code in this movie. Good gosh!

Yeah Joan's 5 o'clock shadow is a hoot but they missed the best one in Autumn Leaves: The shadow from the steering wheel falls on her neck while riding in a convertible lol.

TV was so good back then. I loved campy shows like this that paid tribute to campy, bad movies.

I wish I hadn't seen this video before I saw movie; all of my attention went to the shadows across Joan's neck. Aside from that, the storyline of two people whose love for one another is genuine and continues after one of them receives treatment for his mental troubles was good and while it is too soapy in some areas, the characters remain sympathetic and it is still a decent movie even if it wasn't Joan's best film.

The scene where Joan stands up for her husband always made me so sad because she goes inside and he thinks that she’s plotting with them and he beats the heck out of her. It’s a violent tragic scene but it is kind of funny when he throws the typewriter on her on her hand.
@Rarevintagefinds3 жыл бұрын
Joan confronting Lorne Green and Vera Miles is priceless, and yeah too bad Cliff Robertson thought she was scheming with them but that's what makes for good melodrama. "Where's your decency, in what garbage dump" LOL

Why do men always got to say something against a wonderful actress? They must be new at this time.
