Writer-director John Waters explains to BFI programmer Justin Johnson why he is a fan of Trog (1970), the much derided sci-fi film starring Joan Crawford. Waters interviews Joe Cornelius, who plays Trog, who recalls what it was like working with Crawford and gives his verdict on seeing the film again after 45 years.

Joan took it seriously because she was a STAR and deserved better but didn't complain and didn't explain.

Joan was a beautiful woman and she had class. Not like today’s actresses. Everyone loves to point fingers at peoples faults but look in the mirror, there you will find a lot of your very own.

I loved Joan Crawford. She was a true star, no matter what the movie was. I also loved John Waters part in Feud, playing William Castle, perfectly I might add. He is a Baltimore treasure.

Mr. Waters, are so cute and smart! I've always wanted to know who Trog was! Joan Crawford was the most professional actress from her time. Joan and most actors from the 1920s and 1930s were the first generation of great actors who aged, by 1960's and 1970's and were tossed away. It was unfair, because she was a serious actress.

Am I the only one who got the impression that Mr Cornelius has no recollection whatsoever of being in the film or of Joan Crawford?

For 1970 it wasn’t a bad film. Now if they made that movie exactly like that today with all the technology we have now, then yes, it would be considered horrible but Joan was one of the greatest.

The melodramatic music whenever Joan got Trog to act nicely human-like was cringe!! Movie was tolerable except for the sappy scenes with Joan and the Trog. Nice English countryside views and beautiful old British country homes and interesting interiors.

This is a fabulous movie!!! The first person I would call if I had a murderous troglodyte on the loose would be Joan Crawford! See Joan bully the troglodyte into submission! I LOVE this film.

Why in God's name did they have this guy play William Castle on "Feud:Bette And Joan"?! I don't care how much of a B-movie fan this guy is!
@caligulathegod
@caligulathegod 7 жыл бұрын
It was a conceptual casting. John Waters was a logical extension of William Castle's gimmick filmmaking. By casting John, the viewer gets a meta understanding of what kind of filmmaker William was at the time.
