I was actually looking up some videos on concrete countertops when I came across one of your videos that covered different types of stucco finishes. I dont have any plans at all to do any sort of stucco work but the topic just interested me. The video wasn't ultra time consuming so I watched it. Now almost 2 hours, 4 chocolate donuts, 1 family size bag of doritos and a 2 liter of code red have been annihilated as I remain right here glued to this channel watching more and more of your fine videos. I don't know what to say fellas. This certainly is an unexpected 1st for a crusty 54 year Old SOB like me! Hey DIY channel... If your smart. You would be doing whatever you can to put together a tv show on your channel featuring these two by the time the spring line up kicks off!Who in the hell would have ever imagined that stucco could be this compelling??? You fellas nailed it! It's your professionalism, skill level, expertise, customer service attitude, the unmistakable enjoyment you reflect to the viewer regarding your chosen profession, your unceasing attention to detail, skill, knowledge, enthusiasm and penchant for concise and complete instructions. Love watching your work Kirk, One question on the crack. Once the calking is applied and then the mesh tape is put on and stucco finish cures it seams like the stucco ends up being about 1/4" or so thick . Like you have mentioned in other videos it will end up cracking all around the patches because thats what concrete does. The cracking I would guess would be small or fine line cracks that then could be only calked I assume and painted again. Maybe the mesh tape will prevent the cracking. Thanks for all the videos and how respectful you are to the previous contractor. Your a good example of how to show respect to fellow woman / man.
@StuccoPlastering3 жыл бұрын
Evening Ron, great questions, cracking really depend on vibrations and or movements of the hose, Like slamming a door, this cause vibrations, so the answer to your question is sometimes, it depends on many factors.😉

do u think it might have been faster using a grinder with a diamond pad instead of the bulldog
@StuccoPlastering10 жыл бұрын
Morning dnn187, man, thats such an easy question, NO. I have tried this many times with diamond blades on my grinders, what happens is the dust from the grinder being used travels to every house within 200 feet and makes a tremendous mess, I have even tried this with a shop vacuum to try and catch the dust. Even if a company made a grinder that could catch 100% of the dust it would not be faster or more effective than the method Jason shows in this video, if it was, I would be showing that. keep in mind I'm not rich, but can afford any tool known to man for the purpose of saving time and money. Hey kirk, great job you did there! the calking you used to fill in the joints...does it have to dry first before you apply your mud or can you just go straight over it?
@StuccoPlastering10 жыл бұрын
Evening Goldenalex, Excellent question, I used Sikaflex Polyurethane Sealant, which I covered with fiber mesh tape, then applied a cementitious finish over. The cementitious finish is porous, thus breathable, this professional grade Caulking will dry no matter what is done. When I open a tube we tape it shut and allow no air, but it still dries in the tube once it's opened no matter how well it's sealed. I use it as it has never failed me. Hi! I have watched several of your videos and I see that the best way to remove stucco is to use that tool you have. However, I have an issue at my home here in Florida that I was not able to figure out how I will finish it. I have a family room that used to be an exterior patio and is now enclosed as a room inside the house. The problem is, the wall, that used to be an exterior wall, has stucco on cinder blocks. It's very thick and it looks too rough for family room walls. Do you think I will need to apply plaster on the wall after removing the stucco to smooth it over?
@StuccoPlastering10 жыл бұрын
Evening Vanessa Maass, if it were me I would not remove it. I would clean it well, apply a bonding agent onto, then apply either 20 minute drywall compound with smooth finish or use Structo-lite plaster. No need to remove, if it's done properly, you won't know the difference of the added thickness of say 1/2 inch. Cheers, and have a Fantastic New Year! Kirk Giordano’s DIY plastering tips

Thanks for all the knowledge you share. Quick question, I don't know why I keep thinking that you at some point--maybe in another video--that you used a sawsall with a special bit to scrape the old stucco or bad stucco?? Or is that a special tool and special bit? if so, what are they called or where can I find them? I need to do some cleaning in the front of the house. And you are too far to have come over to do it... :-P
