My favorite thing about the switch is being able to get last gen games as close to original as possible with more stable frame rates. If people want 4K 60fps then why are they playing on switch?

It’s not about 4K but somehow decent frame rates would be cool, right…? When I started the game I was SHOCKED how awful the FPS were during the opening cut scenes. Absolutely appalling performance to be honest.

it's always a debate in my head on whether I should get a multiplatform game on switch or PlayStation. I don't care about the resolution. it's the frame rate that I care about. I will never play a game like doomed eternal on switch but I haven't yet played something less demanding like a turn based JRPG on the switch to tell if it is just as good as it is on the PS4.

It’s on sale right now and just got it and plays amazing. Maybe before prior patches it had problems, but I’ve had none so far and I’m a few hours in. I didn’t even know this was an “old” game, it’s beautiful on switch.

So glad you did this video, I was pretty confused as well after seeing an initial review showing crazy bugs, then seeing the Metacritic score at an 84. This was one of the best RPGs on ps3, extremely stoked to have it on switch and to see a different demographic play it for the first time. ✌🏽

There definitely had to be issue with the install file/memory card for the reviewer who complained about bugs and other issues - I’ve played this for a solid 8 hours over the weekend, and I haven’t experienced so much as a framerate stutter. Overall, great port of a great game!

This version will be my first time playing the first game. I started it up and blinked when I saw an Interstate 75 sign and a town on slightly rolling hills. I didn't know the main character was from Ohio, (maybe Northern Kentucky) in the late-1950s, early 1960s. It might explain why the main character in the second game was the President of an analog of the U.S. :) Personally, I hope this will encourage Bandai Namco to release Ni No Kuni II on Switch as well.

20 hours in and I’ve experienced three crashes - one docked and two undocked. Only some minor audio and graphical issues. Hope B/N can release a patch soon. It’s a solid port, though, of an obviously fantastic game. Until B/N fixes the crashing issues, I would simply recommend saving frequently to be safe.

Got this over Zelda because I beat Zelda as a kid, put 5 hours into the PS3 version and never played it again. I have had not a single problem with his game. This game being 30fps is more than acceptable there's literally no need for 60fps in a game like this.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I purchased this along with Zelda: Link’s Awakening. I recently finished Zelda, and looking forward to complete this game too. I was really devastated with the other KZbinr with their initial review of the game, they are saying that it has a lot of glitches and lost save points. I’m really glad to know that it’s different with your port. :D I played it on my switch but only for the first 1 hour. Edit: SADLY i experienced two separate occassion of Error. 😢 during my 4th hour and 12th. I’m using cartridge.

I compared it with the PS3 version. It looks better actually. The PS3 version is 720p and looks kinda fuzzy on my 55 inch 4K TV, but the Switch version looks fine, clear and crisp. It is definitely higher than 720p and the image has been cleared no doubt. I tried it on a modded Switch and no crash at all. I installed the day-one patch aswell, so maybe that is why. I will buy the PS4 version due to the trophies as I always find them as additional content for the same or lower price sometimes. Destiny Connect for example, is $10 cheaper on PS4. That's another cute classic RPG I'm looking forward to.

@@Mario123007 it's not a remaster, it is indeed a straight port of the PS3 original. Only thing it gets is antialiasing (which is not on PS3). Otherwise PS4 has slightly better textures, higher resolution at 1080p and 60 fps. I'm baffled as to why this isn't 1080p 60 either or at least 720p 60

@@Mario123007 thing is, just like PS4, Switch is better hardware than PS3 as well - so no reason for a direct port. This is especially apparent when you consider that literally every other last gen game on Switch runs at higher res when docked. But yes, same content Edit: Switch does seem to have better textures than PS3 too

So...I love my switch (not hacked) and I love this game (all versions) and I picked it up on release and got about halfway through then put it down for other game since I had played it before. Well this week I picked it up and finished it and it crashed 5 times! 5. The worst crash happened during Shadar’s final form. I’m still shocked. Still love it, but when I got to the point in the video where you said if it’s crashing it’s because of a hacked switch, I felt I needed to comment.

They were all $60 and I bet you own most of those games on the switch. The only reason Zelda isn't a straight port is you can't charge $60 for a Gameboy game. I beat Ni No Kuni back on PS3 and I enjoyed it a lot. At first I wasn't interested by watching it but when I got it for 20 euro back in 2014 I instantly bought it and tried to finish it. It is one of the best games I've played, wait until you're few hours in it gets very interesting.

I've put quite a few hours in so far and it's been very well done. I have only had one "issue" which is in Motortown - certain areas force walking in place of running. It wasn't in the original game and does not seem intentional. Would still hands down recommend picking this up. Fantastic game!

It's not lesser by any means. It's the same exact game as the other versions, and the only other version that you can take with you anywhere and everywhere besides the DS version.

This is a must buy for RPG fans! Much better than Ni No Kuni 2, which I played first. I picked up the PS version, so I could play in 4k. I'm 65 hours in and have experienced 3 crashes, so its not just problems with the Switch version. Overall, it hasn't affected my satisfaction, there are plenty of save points sprinkled throughout the game. Thanks for the review.

Well my game only crashed twice. But i think it's because my joycons were running low on battery. As for the other glitches... Bandai did release an update for the Switch.

This game is fine now. There was a patch that took care of all these issues. Played through it beginning to end, just as good as the PS3 version.

I've always wanted to play this but wanted the PS4 version because of the things you said but for some reason I never got it. I ended up moving to a different country where I only brought with me my Switch. It's on a 75% sale and your video convinced me to buy it. Didn't love NK2 and was weary I wouldn't like the game but good to know this one is better. It's downloading as I type this but I'm excited to give it a go.

This is yet another game on my list, that will take me a while to get to. I just recently bought a Switch and started off with Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Hollow Knight. It'll probably be 4-5 months before I have time for another game. I actually haven't played a JRPG since the early 2000s, but owning a Switch has reinvigorated my interest in them. Maybe because I'm almost 30 and am feeling nostalgic lol.

I know this was posted 2 years ago but I've completed to the credits. I still have post credits content and although grindy in the later game it is excellent. I did have some crashes but not till the later game after 70 hours or so did it happen and only a handful of times. It's not game breaking either as was able to get back in and didn't occur at the same points again. Highly reccomend this game.

I’m just sharing one of my experiences with the switch version of Ni No Kuni. I love this game playing through it was such a blast. I’ve had an issue with Esther’s serenade the extra yellow light animation does pop up with it and the sound for it at least what I’ve seen with the PS3 version also doesn’t play. It’s been very odd. I’m on my second play through and the problem still exists. This is just one of my experiences. Edit: I’m using cartridge.

Most Bandai Namco ports to switch range from passable to mediocre. Tales of Vespera on Switch had some minor frame drops here and there but was very much playable. My Hero One's Justice, playable with occasional slowdown. Dragonball Fighter Z had some frame drops in cutscenes and the visuals were reduced but the gameplay was fine. I haven't played the Ni No Kuni port yet but kind of expect it to fall into the same realm. Passable but they never go above or beyond to make them great. Usually locked to 720p/30 with stable performance ~90% of the time. I plan to get the Digimon Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition next month for Switch so that will be another one of their games.

Great game but the Switch Port Crashes... Middle of phase 3 BBEG Fight and "Software must be closed".

You can't blame them for porting the PS3 version to the Switch. The Switch is not powerful and all content has to be able to run on the 7W portable mode. Porting the original PS3 version was made to run on hardware from 2006. Meanwhile the remastered version is far more demanding because it's being rendered at 125% higher resolution than the PS3 original while simultaneously doubling the framerate. Resolution increases alone are the most taxing things for rendering as it means more pixels to render per frame. Doubling the framerate means pushing all those every 16.6ms rather than the 33.3ms of the original. Just be grateful you got this port at all.

Nothing wrong with the Ps3 version, it's a beautiful game beat it a few months ago. This looks like a good port and it's portable... Took me 70+ hours, beautiful music, and nice sad story. My first true jrpg I beat ever lol after Kindgom Hearts.

The physical cart for Torna is on sale on amazon for 30$. Its about half the length if ni no kuni, and Ni No Kuni is also a very dense game despite its length.
