If my temperature is still fluctuating after I’ve changed the thermostat, does that mean the water pump is bad or I didn’t add enough fluid by “burping” cooling system?

@BossJR13 keep burping the system, if you have could be the waterpump or radiator, usually when waterpumps go they start leaking at the gasket. I would move onto the waterpump then the radiator

@@moparbro Thanks! Burping the cooling system worked! However, I think I have a slow leak now. I guess that means I should go ahead and change the water pump to stop the leak?

@BossJR13 Yea looks like the waterpumps is going, the gasket fails before the water pump propeller, carry around a jug of orange coolant incase the leak gets bigger when you're out.

I don’t think it should bro I was having that problem too. Temp was going too high but didn’t overheat all the way. Replaced thermostat & did coolant & it’s been fine since

Bad thermostat or water pump? 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7. Temp gauge reached red today, fan on blast. Got home from work, let it cool and let it idle for 5mins and coolant boiled outta the radiator like a volcano.

hey there, start with the thermostat, if thays not it, then water pump, u need to take out the thermostat when you replace the waterpump anyways, thnx for watching! plus thermostat is way cheaper to try first
@kennethdurbin3385 Жыл бұрын
@@moparbro yeah always start with the cheapest part. Lol. $24 for a 203 degree Duralast isn't bad. I boiled the stock one for 10mins nonstop, didn't open up. Hoping this was the culprit. Waiting on the GF to bring the new one cause I don't wanna overheat on the way to town. I saw videos of where you must open the bleeder Allen head screw out to bleed the air out? I always just idled my vehicles with the radiator cap off and squeezed the radiator hose several times to burp the system of the air.
@moparbro Жыл бұрын
@kennethdurbin3385 yea you can just idle it or leave the thermostat housing open and fill the waterpump with orange coolant until it spill out of the thermostat housing then attach the radiator hose,the thermostat housing sits a little higher or level with the bleeder screw.
@kennethdurbin3385 Жыл бұрын
@@moparbro there's no possible way to remove or install the bleeder screw with the CAI installed. It has to come off to get in there. I'm just gonna install everything and add coolant in the radiator til it's full I guess.

@@moparbro yep, definitely was the thermostat. Let it idle for a long time as there was a lot of air in the system. Finally opened up and needed to add more coolant. There was the red coolant in it from where I bought it in May. The gallon I bought today turned out to be green. 50/50 mix and was hesitant or adding it cause I've heard not to mix colors for years but also heard it's perfectly fine. So I added it anyways. All seems fine for now. Hope mixing colors don't trash my engine. May trade it in soon anyways I dunno. Lol.
