Letra:
If you ever leave me, I'll be sad and blue
Don't you ever leave me, I'm so in love with you
The birds in the sky would be sad and lonely,
If they knew that I lost my one and only,
They'd be sad if you're bad to me
The leaves on the trees would be softly sighin'
If they heard from the breeze that you left me cryin',
They'd be sad, don't be bad to me
But I know you won't leave me 'cos you told me so,
And I've no intention of letting you go,
Just as long as you let me know, you won't be bad to me
So the birds in the sky won't be sad and lonely,
'Cos they know that I got my one and only
They'd be glad that you're not bad to me
They'd be glad that you're not bad to me, to me, to me
Caro Lane

@@sulladrumthat’s the joy of the Beatles. They never get old no matter what. 60 years later and they’re still as relevant as they were back in the 60s. The modern age definitely preserves their music helping the fans find songs that were never brought to the surface. This song along with ‘I’ll be on my way’ which I just found are two great examples of Beatles songs that would’ve been amazing to hear on a record by them

This song would be a major hit for 90% of groups in Britain at that time. For the Beatles, it's an unsignificant throwaway. Perfect illustrates the overall quality of Beatles songs. Legend says George Martin told John Lennon that Billy J Kramer and the Dakota's desperately needed a hit, and John just wrote in a couple of minutes and the Dakota's made a comeback. They literally made a comeback off a throwaway demo by the Beatles. Shows how perfect the Beatles' officially released material is. Geniuses.

Lennon and McCartney "gave away" many great songs. Consequently they recorded songs they should have given away. I'll never understand how McCartney could give Peter & Gordon a gem like "World Without Love" and keep a mediocre song like "Things We Said Today" for example. I love the Beatles but I cannot honestly say I love every song they recorded.
@jrgboy

@@goplad1 World Without Love was an old song Paul had half written years before, both John & Paul felt it was not right for The Beatles so Paul completed it and offered it to Peter Asher, Paul was living at the Asher's house as he was going out with Peters sister, Jane - John & Paul only recorded the songs they thought would suit the Beatles , I know many people disagreed with their choice but that's the way it was ...
@goplad1

@@jrgboy Yes I'm aware of the history behind the song and why Lennon and McCartney offered their songs to others. In some cases I can appreciate that the song might not fit the Beatles "style" or whatever the case was. Songs like "Tip Of My Tongue" and "Like Dreamers Do" were substandard songs so it made sense to "give them away". In the case of "I Want To Be Your Man" Lennon and McCartney specifically wrote it for the Rolling Stones, who did a fantastic job with it. When the Beatles were recording their second album they decided to give the song to Ringo for his obligatory inclusion on a Beatles album. In my opinion Ringo ruined the song. The Beatles version of their own song paled in comparison to the Rolling Stones high octane version.

I was at school in the 4th form in 1962 when The Beatles first had a hit.Teenage girls in particular became obsessed with them, and hardly a day went by without them being on the front of every newspaper. Within a few months everyone had heard of them and there has never been anything like them since.They were the biggest thing in show biz for a number of years. They kick started the guitar's popularity and I recall music shops very busy on a Saturday with teenage boys wanting to buy guitars and amps.Many would see sales for just one Saturday equal to what would have taken them months to achieve before The Beatles .

If they had done proper recordings of every one of their own songs that they gave away to others - we would at least have one extra Beatles album of their earliest period to add to our collection. An Australian cover group called "BEATNIX" have done an album of these songs that was given away to other artists - and is to be found here on KZbin - but not on Spotify though. Their versions sounds very close to the way The Beatles would have recorded them. And I guess that's the whole idea. It is called : The Beatnix - "It's Four You." PS One "fun fact" about this Australian cover group is that the man who emmulating Paul McCartney and of course plays the bass - actually started out as left handed - like McCartney. But his music teacher convinced him to learn the instrument the correct way - and added : "One day you will thank me for this" !

I believe that this version is a mix of John Lennon's demo of the song combined with the backing track of Billy Kramer's version. So you have John Lennon singing with his guitar instead of Kramer's vocal on Kramer's recording. As far as I know there exists no other Beatles recording of this song except for Lennon's poor quality demo recording - usually only meant for the publisher of the song.

@@Hessulo it's true. John hated his voice and always was on a quest to keep finding ways to alter it. It's unfathomable considering he is arguably the best rock vocalist. But to his ears, he never thought that. On some of the best renowned Beatle songs, he hated his vocals or something else he didn't like. He was notoriously super critical of his writing. Songs that we considered pretty effing timeless, he deemed were garbage. For example, the track "And Your Bird Can Sing" from Revolver with the killer double tracked guitar riff was another throwaway he hated. I wish I could write songs that is as good "crap" like that.
