I'm at the other end. Passed my test in '75 when I was 19. Never been involved in an accident that was my fault because, as my mates used to tell me, I drive like grandad. Drive your best and try never to be in a hurry. Leave yourself plenty of time. Most important of all! Safety first. Consider all the other drivers as idiots because a lot of them are. @Chilly the difference between you now and me back then is incomparable. If you lived in a built-up city urban area, then traffic was much the same as today. Outside of that, the roads were much freer. It was a breeze, and a pleasure just to drive mostly unbothered. I still live in the Norfolk countryside, but the driving experience is fraught with hazards nowadays. I yearn for the good old days, but my approach to driving safely hasn't changed. Just drive with awareness and consideration.

The trouble with most of the cycle paths is that they are far worse than the roads and anyone commuting is travelling, generally, as fast as the traffic so weaving in and out of the obstructions is at least as dangerous as riding on the road. The positioning of the cycle lanes is also ridiculous!

20:00 as a cyclist I would get rid of all cycle lanes they are stupid and pointless and if you’re turning right you’re forced to cut across multiple lanes in some cases and most pedestrians will walk on them as most are shared paths stupid it’s like making a shared road where pedestrians walk along side cars

North West London, driving through Swiss Cottage down the Finchley Road, my old neck of the woods! I really enjoy your videos, thank you. I sometimes feel like an alien on the roads when I'm the only person indicating so it's good to know others are still making an effort. I do think we British can be a bit sheep-like and rather than standing against things like bad driving, we rather childishly join in, "Right, if you're not indicating, I'm not either!" seems to be the attitude.

The cycle lanes in London were made for little children, not adults. They are very, very short and narrow, full of give ways very few yards between them. Then there are lots of zebra crossings, mergers into the roads, ramps, etc. That is why adult cyclers would never use them. Cycle lanes in Europe are far better. Another shame on Sadiq Khan's poor leadership.

Another great video. My only (and this is purely personal) problem with this one is the comment about headphones, with regards to hearing people. We do have deaf drivers, and some very good deaf drivers. However, looking at the way that cyclist is riding, I reckon his headphones must have "breathe in, breahe out" on repeat as if he is as bright as is cycling is good then he needs all the help he can get. It is common practice in NZ to cover signs that are not in use due to having been superseded by temporary signs, either by covering with plastic sheet or by adding adhesive tape over the signs, the temporary signs are the instructions that should be followed. In central Christchurch the council installed No Right Turn signs at a busy junction, unfortunately they did not remove the road markings indicating that right turns were permissible, and it that contradiction the signage was effectively unenforceable.
@beardymanthings
@beardymanthings Жыл бұрын
I'm sure someone's answered this already. The signs covered over are perfectly fine as they're being use onto private ground and are not there from a legal/higway code point of view but as a request of a land owner. I assume for the ease of workers entering for an event at the racecourse. Keep up the good/sweary work

When I used to cycle, they also had ramps every 5 meters for cars entering their driveways. Or were combined with a bus lane so a big bus would tailgate me. Given the close calls and being hit by cars myself I had, if I continued I could be dead like happened my uncle and a school friend if I didn't use paths that physically blocked cars using kerbs and fences

to answer the question about needing to hear to ride or drive. the answer is no. hearing isn't needed to drive or ride. fully deaf people drive. they are taught to use more visual cues. like the flashing blue lights of emergency vehicles and is one of the reasons flashing your lights is the same purpose of use of the horn. not sure if that justifies the use of headphones or not. just pointing out that the inability to hear doesn't take away your ability to drive. or ride.

No, you did right by not using your horn. If you had, it would have been in anger, which is contrary to the HWC. Not using it and calling him a bell end, or worse, was the correct action. re the lane hogging Fiat, I'm not convinced he was. I think he drives a tiny engine that gets from 0-60 in about a week and a half. He'd have got up to speed, eventually. I'm not gonna comment on Audis (I don't now, nor have I any desire to drive one). I'm waiting for "Always a Yaris" for those times when you can't go anywhere because there's a Yaris in front of you moving at walking pace. I love your remarks re older cars being bare. "Do you wing it" Yep I most certainly do wing all my journeys with no pre-planning 😃 although to be fair I read signs and listen to waze because both give a lot of advanced warning about the road layout ahead so I really have no need to plan. That bus stop in the road on the other side of the cycle lane is a "floating bus stop" or something like that and there have been reports of accidents at them between peds and cyclists, not going to give an opinion who is at fault in these scenarios other than who ever the hell planned these should be fired for stupidity. That road can only have been designed that way to cause traffic or to cause issues for vehicles or both because there is clearly lack of any thought put into the rest of it given the stupid location of the bus stop. It would have been better with a bus/cycle lane combo because at least that would allow for emergency vehicles to use it too as much as bus lanes annoy me given Busses seem to spend more time out of them lol

17:20-21:05 The roads are badly designed deliberately to cause congestion (and pollution). It doesn't matter who is mayor. It is a long standing and deep rooted agenda at all levels of government. These idiots think by making driving as annoying as possible that everyone will just magically use a bike instead. Really good for all the delivery drivers and workers that need to drive. These fools are actually causing more congestion, pollution and dangerous conditions for accidents and emergency vehicles, etc as highlighted in the video with their stupid layouts, low traffic neighbourhoods, mazes of banned turns, etc, etc

I can drive and hear absolutely nothing inside the car, at least with earphones on when I'm cycling I can hear what's coming up behind me. The one thing she drilled into me was anticipation anticipation anticipation! As you said modern cars have more bells and whistles than are necessary. As for the large touch screen infotainment systems, talk about a major distraction. I am also of the opinion that cars nowadays are actually too safe, giving a certain type of driver a complete false sense of security allowing them to byepass the common sense part of tiny minds. As for the M25 / A3 intersection I actually think it is worse than Spaghetti Junction and that is saying something.

The best time to use a quick blip of the horn was as you would have moved out because it means "I'm here" The point where you said you gave them the finger, they already know you're there so use of the horn is unnecessary. You show some good driving by giving space to the BMW and Kia cos it's obvious what the BMW is going to do there and, by keeping clear, you're in a safer position and it is easier for you to avoid a collision. M3/M25 is classic "just follow the car in front" lack of attention to any road signs. Also potentially triggered by being squeezed out by the merge in turn too. A good example of how getting mad at other drivers affects your own driving! Personally I would have stayed in lane 1 for the white fiat to give some wiggle room in case it decided to move in. We already know it's not paying attention by the speed it is doing so what else isn't it paying attention to? Assume everything :). In a city, getting in front means waiting at the next set of lights for longer

But maybe thats just me as I drive a lot on my own so there's noone to direct.

Separated cycle lanes are there for a reason. Yes, some of them may not see much use, but they do get used. People in my local city always say they never see anyone use the cycle lane the council put in a few years ago, but I use it and sometimes see other people using it. You try riding on a main road without a cycle lane with drug dealers in their Range Rover's belting about at 100mph. Like I said, the cycle lanes are there for a reason. Also, I noticed the cyclists at 17:18 coming to a stop at the red light. I wonder how many cyclists you see stopping at red lights that you choose not to include in your videos vs how many you see not stopping at them. I'm not having a go. I enjoy your videos, but I feel like you only focusing on the bad cyclists out there does more harm than good ultimately. Not to mention that a bad cyclist is a way smaller threat to everyone around than a bad driver.

Funny how we 'classify' some cars, like the adult man in a girls' car. When the Audi TT came out, I instantly classified it as a 'gay male hairdressers' car. No disrespect to gay men, or hairdressers, just popped into my head. It is a cute little thing, just made me laugh.

This doesn't get talked about a lot, but some drivers think if they are quick enough to get in front on the right they can force their own priority over other drivers regardless of how they got there in the first place!

Can you tell me why you call cab drivers professional when anyone can get in a car and be a cab driver

It's because they get paid to do it that's all, doesn't mean they are any good at it.

Road signs have to be clear and visible and comply with regulations . The driver can continue if those signs arnt visible. But, if hes aware of the signs, even if they are obscured, and let say he enters a one way street knowing that, the dangerous driving or due care could be used. Looking at the entrance i suspect its private and signs may not be legally placed and not enforcable anyway.

Wouldn't you be able to write a letter to this Sadiq guy, and explain all that bicycle lane, even send the video. Surely that's gotta be sorted as your right it's absolutely ridiculous.

Undertaking is not illegal and not against the highway code. When the car was hogging the outside lane you shouldn't complain about drivers undertaking as they didn't break the highway code as it looked safe and not careless
@thelondondashcam

It’s still an advisory in the highway code to not undertake, and if that car moved over as you was undertaking, you would be the one that was in the shit basically.

The way I see it like in that footage of the fiat doing less speed and the cammer doing the speed limit I can't say it's wrong. I've had instances like this and if I did ever get asked why im undertaking I'd just say that I'm doing the speed limit and the car in the inner lane isn't

Just a general comment, the speed limit is a maximum limit, not a target. You are not obliged to drive at that limit just because everyone else is. 😠

Sorry but I will need to take issue with your comment around 17:09 that the group of Cyclists waiting to turn right are doing nothing wrong! They are all sitting in a yellow cross hatching which they should not enter unless they can exit the area.

4:31 I'm surprised they have the undertake rules on a two lane road . I'm Australia there are` "keep left unless over taking" signs but they a mostly on 80kph/45mph and over roads but most two lane (one way) suburban roads are ''use the best lane for next turn off'' 13:45 So true ; modern buttons and switches are so bloody distracting. It's even waste in a strange vehicle . I hated getting into a strange truck at night Push bikes: I don't have too much of a problem with bikes running red lights and such as long it's done sensibly . And yes it is illegal for bikes here to run a red light ; but they are smaller and far more nimble so let'em go. I can see a time when only bikes and pro drivers will be able to enter city centers . Your roads seem pretty well clogged up now without thinking 10 years ahead
