Lewis figuring out the swarm strategy has really impacted the Civ strategies. They need another player willing to build a real millitary.

They just need to be more willing to declare war like in the old days. I don't mind full banter but they really need to start attacking each other before its an Attack or Lose situation.

@@1234tommyboi yeah, i think ultimately no one really enjoys war, and Lewis is the least bothered by it, so he can always bully everyone else. I think there was probably a point when Duncan could've rolled over Lewis, but just couldn't be bothered, which gave Lewis such a long time to build units, match technology, and become an even bigger problem. None of which a criticism really, it is a genuine pain to conduct a war in Civ games, especially against a player like Lewis who can crank out a million units every turn. But it does seem to define the tone of these games... it's often really necessary to strike early and cripple another civ before they can tech up.

Lewis undergoing a revolution and Duncan STILL not attacking him despite having 0 production or anything is one of the boldest moves I've seen. Meanwhile JD is dealing with Barbarians that are higher tech than his own.

I think Duncan is actually trying to emulate his mistake with Spiff, but with him winning this time. He mentioned early on if he had just declared war sooner he'd have won against him and now he's trying to delay war as long as possible even giving up the advantage to win the tourism victory.

Earlier I was thinking the same, but I'm not sure anymore. He would definitely crushed the initial attack (probably for good), but he would have gotten a severe penalty to tourism towards Lewis. Lewis is actually the only one than can prevent Duncan's culture victory and the longer it takes to start the war the closer Duncan is to victory (especially after Duncan gets the nation visitor center). Risky strategy but it might pay of.

Really a classic civ game for the Yogs. If Spiff or Potato were here they might pull enough aggro to war/ crab bucket each other and then it would be down to lewis and duncan again

If Duncan loses the war I think it will be due to him not giving importance to Barracks, Armory, and Military Academy. Those upgrades that Lewis has and Duncan doesn't give him a much higher advantage against naval units, so much so that Lewis could put up a fight one whole upgrade behind. Unfortunately for Duncan I sense a bloodbath incoming.

Tbh before the war get's halfway through Duncan will just win a tourism victory. He's close to a big national wonder and once he starts beelining for the internet it'll be already over. Lewis was the last holdout but by having to share an ideology with him because of the world ideology bonus his resistance with culture gets that much worse.

Since Duncan is going hard culture he'll win before anyone even approaches the techs they need to win science. It'll be a race at the end to see if Lewis can burn down enough of Duncan's tourism/culture before he just wins.

Duncan should've gone for it. Lewis was having a revolt, he was underteched, Duncan could've steamrolled. I know everyone here is friends, but they really do play too nice and passive.

Duncan let him prep and upgrade his ships for ages knowing he will attack. Duncan had the technical advantage and he waited for Lewis to catch up. They do this every game and never learn!

That fleet is pretty impressive, but not as impressive as Oda Nobunaga AI making 30 triremes on one of my games, when it went to war against some other AI. The other didn't have any port cities so it was quite stupid though.

When Duncan loses this it is entirely his fault. He's had Lewis outgunned for ages, now Lewis is catching up on tech, has the numerical advantage and even when he has a revolution which completely cripples him for 2 turns Duncan just sits back. I just don't get it

I really don't understand, they always complain of tourism victories, but here is lewis changing ideology to the same ideology duncan has to make it even easier for him to be influenced by duncan's tourism instead of just handling the happiness

Lewis has been having happiness issues on and off the entire game due to his massive empire, and he doesn't have enough culture to fend off Duncan's tourism and Freedom influence. He kinda HAD to swap ideologies, or he would've done the same as JD and started losing cities due to the unhappiness.

He would’ve been fine if the world ideology wasn’t Freedom. Lewis was at 20 unhappiness because of it. A major issue is that he has been waiting so long that the tourism snowball is getting out of control and unless he gets some great musicians or steals two of Duncan’s cities I don’t see how he can win before the tourism victory.

It really bothers me how often they let Lewis get away with Zerg rushing. The very second he started piling his armada on Duncan's border, Duncan should have ripped off the Band-Aid and destroyed all his wooden boats before Lewis had a chance to upgrade them.
