The fact that neither Duncan nor Spiff built cavalry type units is the reason their war became a stalemate. Enough cavalry and Duncan could have rushed that citadel and burned it to the ground but since all they were using was infantry and ranged units they just kept being unable to move far enough in a turn to do anything worthwhile.

One of my favorite things as Shoshone in Civ V was to build tons of Comanche, then use them to distract forces while I moved my main force forward. Using them to raid tiles from every angle with their extra movement + The movement upgrade and just running away when things got sketchy. Once I had them with the unique upgrade AND the level upgrade AND Kilimanjaro AND a nice roadway system letting me travel the continent in like 2 turns.

The real issue was that duncan did not have roads at the front. With roads this would have been much easier.

If I was in Duncan’s position, after making peace with Spiff, I would immediately declare war on Rythian. He wouldn’t be expecting it and has relatively fewer units. Last time someone checked, Duncan had 130,000 while Rythian only had 40,000 military score. A surprise war would allow me to capture 1-2 cities before Gaul’s unique units become obsolete. Attacking Mogadishu, which doesn't have any strategic importance, looks like a massive waste of resources and time.

Duncan could have won this game already. Junon didnt have walls and could have been taken in a couple of turns. Cob could have been taken by placing the citadel in Spiff's borders and taking his citadel in the process. Duncan's unique units and his ability to buy great generals with faith and thus win any "citadel trading" would have easily been enough to push the border towards Cob. And with Himeji Castle Duncan additionally has +15% combat strength when fighting in his own borders. With Rythian's city and Spiff's capital Duncan would have been undefeatable. Taking the rest of Rythian and Spiff would hardly be a challenge and then it would be Duncan's 12 cities against Lewis' 4 cities.

Classic Duncan. Goes honor, takes the central space with a massive army, gets resisted/retaliated against, and starts playing victim. Also classic Lewis. Giving in against Duncan, who is clearly very aggressive. I respect Spiff a lot for at least trying to stand up against Duncan, and I respect Rythian playing with his own principles. Unfortunate Duncan might just run away with the game if they don't stop him catching back up with other stuff before going back to war later, but the only person who could have really done anything and didn't was Lewis.

Duncan isn’t really that big of a threat to either of them especially Lewis. Both of them are going to run away on science and Duncan is going to attack and probably take out Rythian. Spiff has citadels set up and coaxed Duncan into stealing Rythian’s wonder so his wouldn’t get taken.

I think Spiff did a mistake in peacing out, now that Duncan has out-techd his strongest unit he can't replace any losses, so killing those units now is necessary so that they don't become infantry or mechanized infantry in the future with that OP promotion, because new units that he builds won't have them, but that's just a thought, he already was playing the best strategy by avoiding losses and killing from a distance

I dont think this war is really worth it for duncan.... He gets like 10% of his science income per enemy killed, and he is definitely not killing one enemy per turn.

I think Duncan had enough stuff where just attacking in would have done enough for him, I think he was building roads the entire time so with a few rounds of reinforcements maybe he could have just busted through. I think Citadels are too strong and I feel like there should be a way to heal your units every turn. I suppose the whole point of the citadel is to make some fortified but the land conquering and the fact that you can just build a few in a line to get to someone's capital once you have a few really ruin the general way that Civ 5 is supposed to be played, I feel like forts should be good enough / made a little better to compensate. Then, rather than having them make citadels, great generals could do something like heal 15hp in a aoe or something and provide a little damage buff so that you want to keep them as part of your army, non-stacking, or perhaps lower the bonuses by like 66% and let it stack. I think that would be a cool change, anyways, just ramblings of a guy online, have a nice day!
