A friend of mine and I both have "Shoebox fords, His is a 1950, and mine is a 1949. Both of us have been into rods and customs for more than 50 years and are very experienced in building rods and customs. He decided to chop his 5 inches. So he took 4 inches out of the "A" pillar. When all was said and done he ended up with a 5 inch chop. It turned out to be WAY too much. The windshield was so short it was almost impossible to safely drive it. This was proven true when the licensing department refused to license the car with the windshield opening that small. In short, you are making a BIG mistake. That is a very solid and strait looking 50 Ford, and it's a shame for what you are about to turn it into, an out of proportion undrivable piece of junk.

Nate is all around good at the task at hand and he is a really good mechanic which is something that Chad really needed. Chad does a fantastic job at metal fabrication and he is good at body prep and painting as well even though he does not do it very often! Jolene as always your camera work and videos are fantastic. Your decision making skills are extremely good as well after all we know who the boss is! I know Chad and Jolene are good at what they do. And I enjoy watching the metal fabrication. I've learned a lot. And I know Chad is a custom car builder. Always will be. But I wonder why there always has to be a top chop. I know. They often look cool. But, you know that anytime Chad makes a purchase, regardless of the car, it's gonna get a top chop. And, in this case, its kind of sad that a perfectly good original shoebox is getting the treatment. One less original on the road.

I have chopped a few cars, including a beetle, which is a bit like chopping an egg. To get them to pass inspection the window height generally need to be 9 inches, that is nine inches vertical. This height changes in different states and provinces. Cops quite often have no clue as to regulations but vehicle inspection places are generally on top of things. The thing with shoe box Fords is the amount of meat above the window is so thick that it could use a section or the vehicle ends up looking some what like a guy with too much forehead. One trick is to use the stock roof and take a section out of the back - in effect shorten the vehicle by several inches, quite often the proportions work out quite nicely. Like anything there is an art to it. I come by here for entertainment Bellos Kustoms, RAC garage and Killer Kustoms are places to see some serious skill, not all the same level but certainly work most would be happy to own.
