Now imagine this is 2014, for the last 12 years action movies have been defined by cameras so shaky you can't even make out a face and cuts so quick you can't even tell what happened in a shot. All done by regular joe schmo actors with no skill at all and choreography that can be as loose and ill-timed as it wants because the audience won't see it anyway. Then imagine hearing of an Indonesian film series called The Raid and seeing _that_ after all the Taken 3's Hollywood was putting out. It's like a whole different world and you wonder how anyone got away with anything less. This was such a great era for action, both revitalizing and innovating the genre.

Early kitchen scene was basically what would happen if two karate masters, or kung-fu masters, or silat masters who are enthusiastic with their art meet off camera. They would compare notes. 36:07 That is a really cool island called Hashima Island off the coast of Japan, nicknamed Battleship Island because its outline on the horizon looks like a battleship. It was just a tiny, 16 acre barren island, but coal was discovered there, so the Mitsubishi corporation bought it, built a whole tiny city on it for the workers, and mined it until it went dry. Then the entire population left in 1974, and it's been abandoned ever since, only used as a cool movie set for this and Skyfall, the James Bond movie, which ridiculously said the villain had just forced an evacuation when clearly it's been falling apart for decades. So how they drove to a tiny abandoned island in a car is... hilarious.

Fighting in slippery muddy terrain IS THE SPECIALITY OF SILAT MARTIAL ARTS especially Silat Harimau or Tiger Silat. In my village they used to practice Silat inside the muddy paddy fields and in the creek with slippery rocks. There is also a type of Silat school that teach how to fight on stilt, on small boats and on bamboo raft on the river. There is also a technic in Harimau Silat or Tiger school of Silat where you fight on the ground without even standing up. This is common in the Island of Sumatra and in some part of Malaysia where Minangkabau people residing as a community. They were all rice farmers and also traders and they live in jungles and hilly terrain so there are no such things as flat ground when practicing traditional Silat especially Silat style from Sumatra which the main actor actually came from and learn from his family. My late uncle use to pratic a type of Silat that teach how to fight in a closed and tight room like the toilet scene, idk what its name but my uncle used to call it "Silat Bilik" or Room Silat. His master teach him how to fight an opponent inside a very tight spaces like bedroom, toilet, a hole, a car or a small shed. There are hundreds of style of Silat all over South East Asia especially in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Southern Philippines and Southern Thailand. Most traditional partitioners are the Austronesian people like the Malays, Javanese, Sundanese, Madurese, Bugis, Bajau and Minangkabau ethnic group. Each ethnic group of these Austronesian people have their own style of Silat. ;)

This film has a lot of fighting/many people who can fight with the martial art "Silat" because this film also has a documentary motif. Gareth Evans (Wales, England) is a documentary filmmaker who loves silat, meets several silat teachers Iko (Rama), Yayan (Mad Dog) and members of several silat schools. They all wanted to introduce Silat as a martial art that existed hundreds of years ago in Southeast Asia (Indonesia). If Americans (Hollywood) see Kungfu/Karate/Taekwondo as great and big like the vastness of the ocean, in real terms I would say that Silat is the Ocean. So when Gareth (England) brought the film The Raid to the international stage, many fans of Hollywood martial arts films were shocked! The world was only introduced to Kungfu/karate etc. because the country of origin was already advanced and had mastered cinema. However, for several European countries such as the Netherlands/France/England, the older generation already knows and feels the bitterness of Silat, because they have set foot in Indonesia. And silat schools also exist in the countries mentioned above, although they are not widespread, because silat techniques are difficult to adapt to the world of sports. Karate/Kungfu/Taekwondo/Wrestling/etc. also live and develop in Indonesia, but it is difficult for the Betawi/Sundanese/West Sumatran tribes to develop, because this is the basic tribe of pencak silat. Indonesian society is very closely related to pencak silat. If you know Jacky Chan, there is an Indonesian actor who has the same talent and has received the same international award, namely Willy Dozen/Billy Chong... see "Cristal Fist". Billy doesn't want to extend his contract in Hong Kong because of pressure from the Mafia. Billy was recruited to play in films in America earlier than Jacky. There are also many Indonesians who are crew members in Hong Kong films, including the great Hong Kong actor Lo Lieh who comes from Indonesia. However, it must be admitted that Indonesia has not been able to make films as great as Hong Kong/India.

A bit like Texas, more like the countries of Europe, Like how France and Germany are both in the EU. I prefer to use The EU as Wales and England are culturally unique from one another where as Texas isn’t that uniquely distinct from any other American state. No worries though buddy. The people of Wales even have their own language, although it’s only spoken by 20% of people.

Boys... If you liked Raid 1 and 2... Checkout Headshot. Iko Uwais (main swat character from 1&2) is in it and high octane with a good story. Hope you guys enjoy it and look forward to hopefully see a reaction video!!! Loved yours for raid 1 and 2

'The Man From Nowhere' has got some crazy POV knife fight shots. The knife-wielding villain in this film is also a knife-wielding villain in the TMFN.

No, the one from TMFN is Thai not Indonesian
