The reason pressure points don’t work on Po is that he’s protected by his fat. They foreshadow this when Mantis is giving him acupuncture and complains that all Po’s fat is making it difficult to find the nerves.

I always liked Tai Lung as a villain because he is a perfect example of a monster who was created, not born. Also, Ian McShane gave him an awesome scary voice. "Who filled my head with dreams?! Who drove me to train until my bones cracked?! Who denied me my DESTINY?! " will always be my favorite example how even good intentions (taking in an orphan, raising him as your own) can have bad conscequences (teaching him that it is his destiny to become something, not giving him an alternative and not properly explaining him why it didn't happen)
@kitkait98 Жыл бұрын
Yes! and then you compare that to how he raised Tigress. He still taught her kung fu and told her that she could be the dragon warrior. He was terrified of opening his heart and getting hurt, so he couldn't give Tigress the love that he gave Tai Lung. I'd want to explore how she managed to not go down the same path as Tai Lung. After all, she trained just as hard only for her dream to be ripped away from her. Perhaps because becoming the dragon warrior was only a possibility for her as opposed to Tai Lung being told there was no doubt that it was what he was meant for

And then locking the mofo in a deep dark pit, unable to move, in isolation, with abusive guards, for 20 years. There wasn't even any implied murders when he rampaged, so at most he committed assault and property damage. Talk about an unfair sentence.

"One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it" is probably my favorite line in the movie if not the trilogy The very act of telling Shifu that Tai Lung would return leads him to take steps that *allow Tai Lung to return* but at the same time leads to the dragon warrior being chosen/awakening Second favorite moment is Po looking at himself in the scroll and saying "it's blank," meanwhile Tai Lung looks at himself and says "it's nothing" It's blank vs it's nothing
@romanlovera427 Жыл бұрын
what they think of themselves. one doesn't think he can and the other one lacks self love. Powerful yet subtle writing right there
@TheJjcczz Жыл бұрын
Tai Lung spent his entire life training to be the Dragon Warrior, his response of its nothing reflects that because he thinks it was all for nothing Po was only chosen a couple months ago maybe and was told that he wasn’t the Dragon Warrior for most of that time. So when he sees the scroll his reaction is reflective of his self doubt. By saying it’s blank it implies that there is something written there that only the true Dragon Warrior can see It’s also a shame because Po spent very little time training for the scroll and had an entire night to process what it meant. Tai Lung spent his entire life training for the scroll and got 2 minutes to process what it meant. I feel like given enough time Tai Lung could have been redeemed and that killing him was overkill
@wittleMermaid1311 ай бұрын
Wow. I never caught that! Blank means you're a blank canvas. Nothing is bleak/empty. Shows the innate positivity in Po - you can do anything.
@StarlasAiko2 ай бұрын
Blank indicates undefined potential, everything is still possible. Nothing denotes worthlessness. Also, even before understanding it, Po saw his straight reflection, while Tai Lung saw his reflection distorted.

Just noticed something. When training Po, Shifu tries to trick him by hiding the food under all the bowls. But Po figures it out right away, easily. Later, Po hides the scroll under pans and Tai Lung wasn't able to figure it out. He just flipped them all over. Subtle storytelling of how smart Po actually is.
@BlackGirlMarvel Жыл бұрын
Not just smart but how focused and intuned he is. Tai Lung's wasn't focused nor using intelligence, just brute force.
@oscarchavezavellan2738 Жыл бұрын
It's actually way more than that, the movie uses up every bit of the narrative tools they planted around the movie. For example, when PO is falling with Tai lung, he falls on the tree that he was trying to use earlier to enter the ceremony and have a look a the furious 5, at that moment he got hurt, so when he realized where he was he used it as a weapon to hit Tai lung. There are also the fireworks, the pressure points, the cookie thing, all of them were stablished before the final battle started.

There are many memorable lines in "Kung Fu Panda," but the one that stood out for me was Tai Lung screaming, "Tell me how proud you are, Shifu! Tell me!" Ian McShane delivers the line perfectly. You can hear the anger and the bitterness in Tai Lung's voice, but you can also hear the abject pain, the pain of a son literally begging for his father's approval. It was moments like this that lifted the movie from great to awesome.
@besupaaa Жыл бұрын
I love that when Po is not confident and feeling lost, bad abaout himself he eats when hes upset. But after the training he trusts himself (didnt even have to lose weight or change who he was), he sais "im not hungry :) " ahso Shifu was smiling there.

I like how Po fights using items and the environment and not just any one style, like Jackie Chan does with many of his characters. Don't know if this is a coincidence since he's in the movie or a straight homage.

The behind the scenes stuff on the discs iirc do mention how much Jack Black loved growing up on Jackie Chan movies and while voicing Po he was actually doing like, kung fu poses and strikes in the studio to really get a feel for Po being a giant fanboy that got his chance of a lifetime

21:10 Oak's reaction to this line is why I think this movie is so beloved. There's some heart breaking dialogue, and themes of doubt, both internal and from others. That doubt can be crippling, and is why some find it hard to live up to their potential. I believe this doubt is a universal feeling we all face at some time or another. I'm glad Oak resonates with this because it reminds me of a famous Alan Watts quote: "It takes time for an acorn to turn into an Oak, but the Oak is already implied in the acorn".... anyway, despite your channel name being BAD MEDICINE, your uploads are consistently a positive experience. You guys are awesome! Take care lads ;)

Tai Lung asking shifu if he’s proud was what got me in this movie. It’s hard to blame Tai Lung for the way he turned out when he was trained to be this warrior by his father for his whole life, only to be told he hasn’t met those expectations and refused the title of dragon warrior . By the time Shifu realizes he failed Tai Lung, he was already too far gone.

Po - the panda - telling his dad - the duck: "Honestly, sometimes I can't believe I'm actually your son." will always be peak comedy to me. I remember sitting in the movie theater and howling with laughter - weirdly I was the only one laughing at that line - and it still sends me to this day.
@billbill6094 Жыл бұрын
The way Po fights Tai Lung was so brilliant for his character. It doesn't make sense for him in that short time to have mastered Kung Fu to a level that it could beat Tai Lung, who beat the legendary Furious Five by himself. So he takes all the lessons he learned along the way and that's what he uses to beat him. He's tricky, he has wisdom to know that this tree will hurt Tai Lung or these fireworks will help me outpace him. He knows that if he motivates himself with food he'll find a way to get to the roof for the scroll. And of course, since he's built differently than a typical combatant, pandas clearly not being the most popular warriors, Tai Lung's most powerful technique fails on him. Which is foreshadowed by Mantis not being able to find the right nerves.
@Adi-oc7vu Жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly ! Po doesn't win because he punched harder then Tai Lung like you said and that Po can withstand so many hits where most others probably couldn't and he's smart enough that when master shifu was fighting Po and trying get rid of him saying "use your opponents strength against them" he was listening and did use that, also he figured out the wuxi finger hold from watching shifu do it, acupuncture from mantis and the attacks from Tai Lung on the five and shifu restoring them

The first time I‘ve watched this movie, I was around 10 and watched it in German, since it’s my mother language. Nothing comes close to Jack Black‘s performance as Po, Dustin Hoffman as Master Shifu and specially the legendary Ian McShane as Tai Lung! For some years now, I only watch movies in their original version because so many little but important details too often get lost in translation.
@oscarchavezavellan2738 Жыл бұрын
I'm from LATAM, nowadays I prefer watching things in their original language, but in this case I honestly prefer the LATAM Spanish dub, there are some performances that give more range to the characters. For example, when Tai lung is fighting shifu in the latam Spanish dub, you can hear not only the anger as it's in the original, but there is a bit of sadness, he sounds like he's gonna break and start crying at any moment, it's not exaggerated, it's really subtle so it doesn't clash with the expressions that the character has in the movie. You can hear not only pure anger, but also frustration, pain and sadness.

34:45 So before in the movie when mantis was applying needles around his pressure points to cure him, it's explained that panda's pressure points are not located in the same spots as other animals, so when tai lung tried to hit him with that he couldn't because he didn't know panda's unique nerve pressure points. It also makes sense, they are different not because he is panda and that's it, it's because his body seize is very different so it's hard to tell where to actually hit him.

As you've discovered, this is MUCH more than a children's movie, to the effect of level of Avatar : The Last Airbender. And all 3 of them hit the mark, with a 4th on the way. I'm so excited to see you guys get into the next one, as it has my favorite villain, and touches on how some people are just so lost in their ways they aren't really able to be helped. Arguably the third one is the weakest of the movies, but it is still a good movie. Once it's all over I'd suggest you get a synopsis of all 3 of them before you, either your notes or if you want to pull one up online whatever, and really dive into the different themes tackled in each movie, maybe as it's own video? Only because it's a whole journey that you may not pay full attention to WHILE you're watching them. When you step back and look at all of them, their color themes, villain arcs, hero arcs, and story themes, they put together this whole emotional journey for everyone from a child to a senior to help themselves learn with. With a AAA cast across the board with excellent animation and music, it really shines.

One of my all time favourite (feel good) movies. Young and old, everbody can enjoy this masterpiece. One of the best trilogies ever! Man this movie always hits me in the feels and as per usual with those messages, Oaks reaction makes it all the better 😭

Glad that it was also touched upon just a bit: how the 5 also dealt with frustration, accepting or giving others a chance. Perhaps still be respectful and open despite differences. See first what the situation/character brings. And to keep doing your thing like the 5 and learn, coz they (the 5) are still special.

Master Oogway said he scensed the dragon warrior after he saw Po launch himself almost over the wall with the tree, crashing with such force that would hurt a normal person and then gets up from a greater fall only being dazed but overall unharmed.

When it comes to the "life is a mystery" phrase, I'm always surprised by how many people haven't heard it. I grew up on it, so it completely took me out of the film when that came up: it just seemed so cheesy. As much as I like the first film, I adore the second, so I'm very interested in seeing your reaction to it.

One of my favourite movies and trilogies of all time. It’s so funny but there is so much depth to it as well. I think a lot of directors and producers could learn a lot about all aspects of film making from this.

The reason Tai Lung's nerve attack didn't work on Po was actually set up earlier in the movie when Mantis comments how hard it is to find the right pressure points for Po under all the fur

Love this trilogy so much. I am surprised that School Of Rock did not come up when talking about Jack Black films... if you haven't seen it, I think it would be a GREAT reaction video.

Excited to see y’all dive into these movies! The animation was great in this one. Especially for 2008. And it only gets better too!

Couldnt wait for Oaks take on this and I loved the video, there is so many good messages into this one that doesnt have to be tear jerkers but just need to be said. Like to something to be special you only need to believe its special, mindset which is a lot of eastern teachings. And that not only is Po going on a journey but also so is Shifu as a master/teacher and that Oogway still teaching into the end when his time came, all his lines are insta qoutes to take away. He doesnt have to say much to get his point across which is the sign of a real master. Also the fact that he is a turtle also have good symbolism. Shifu representing that you dont stop learning yourself even when you take up the mantle of teaching others. And also Po with the line about belittling him and doing everything to make him quit but that never will hurt more than him going back to his previous life. Like it doesnt matter what anyone says or does, you only answer to yourself with yours choices and course through life. This is a movie so the journey ends in success of defeating the bad guy but irl the bad guy is your own mind working against you and forces of evil is what others say in their own arrogance or insecurity. So even if you dont reach fame and riches that we think means success, the success is already reached when you are true to yourself and decide your own life. Its just a great fucking movie.

And i havent even touched on Tai lung and the tragedy there. The most powerful scene is when he keeps punching Shifu and asking if he is proud. Gives such depth to what really is happening inside Tai Lung emotionally but he also is letting his anger block him from learning and growing and he only has his anger left, he cannot let it go and makes it clear when he says he doesnt want the apology even though he faltered a bit when Shifu admitted that it was all his fault and apologized. Again, great fucking movie.

I love these movies. They're serious, but fun, which is a lesson in0 itself; too many people think that being a responsible adult means giving up the things that give us pleasure. I also love the fact that Po's greatest weakness, his weight, turns out to be his greatest strength. Ultimately, Po loses the pain of being himself not by becoming the legendary Dragon Warrior but by accepting who he is, and that acceptance is what actually turns him into the legendary Dragon Warrior.

Such a good movie! I saw it in cinema with my sister when it came out in 2008. Any I remember liking it back then but nowadays I love it! I think when I first saw the original version it just clicked more. The German synchronization is good. But can't hold a candle to the original. There are so many great voices in this movie but Jack Black and James Hong are the ones I love most. They doubled my love for their characters and the movie overall.

It wasn't till someone else pointed it out regarding po and tai lungs interaction with the dragon scroll. Po reacts saying it's blank. While tai says it's nothing. Signifying po's ability and eagerness to learn bc a blank canvas as shifu learned with the peace tree with patience and nourishment and care it would grow and become something. But tai lung's nothing could never be fille and showed the darkness in his heart.

Tai Lung is tide with Ursula when it comes to my favourite animated villains. I think the casting in this movie was perfect. My only complaint is that Tai Lung had a short appearance. It makes sense because it’s Po’s story.

One of my favorite things about this movie is how many times it seems like something is essentially just a gag, and when you rewatch it turns out had more to it than that. Like when Oogway was blowing out the candles? He stopped for a second, almost started to say something, and then kept blowing out candles. That seemed like it just happened for the sake of being funny, but no... Oogway had at least some sense already of what was to come, and of how even he couldn't prevent it because anything he did to try preventing it would only cause it to happen instead. So he thought "if I can't prevent it, maybe I can delay it a little longer" and seeing how his telling Shifu about the vision did in fact lead to Tai Lung's escape, realistically the longer he spent blowing out candles the longer he really did stall that fate from coming to pass. He also absolutely could've stopped Tai Lung again, but fully knowing that he still saw that he needed to be gone before then, so that Shifu and Po could progress in their respective journeys without depending on his OP-ness.

34:44 remember when Mantis was doing the acupuncture, Po's skin is too thick to penetrate. It takes more pressure so it's hard to attack his nerves.
