@RCN72 It related to Pete being asked to play the duet of "Here Comes The Sun" with George Harrison onstage at the Bangladesh concert, thus the lyric "Any day, the sun could shine on you..." and "... take it all, I don't need it at all." In the great Badfinger book, according to Pete's girlfriend and another friend, Joey was outwardly jealous and kept throwing digs at Pete. Pete was obviously a humble guy. Ever heard "Apple Of my Eye"? Astounding lyrics about the Bealtes.

Pete Ham was a great singer/songwriter. He never got his due, nor did the rest of the band. It's a shame. They really were one of the best rock bands ever, and I hope that they will be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. They deserve to be there.

This band was the most tragic loss to Music in my opinion. I love every song they ever recorded. Pete and Joey, along with the rest of the band were extremely talented. Theire talents complemented eachother to make one of those GREATS in music!!

I love their harmonies more than any others..they almost sound as one. Such a sad story, they would/should have gone so far. They were "the next Beatles" back then. Pete trusted everyone. He was such a great guy in so many ways. Huge musical talent songwriting as well as vocals, piano and guitar..makes me wish so much they were still making music.

How could Joey even think Pete thought of himself a big rock star, ego and all. Look at how the band is always lined up. If Pete was all about himself he would be front and center about two feet in front of the others. He is back on the right side, so far that his piano would hit the drums in about 4 inches. Pete was ALL about the music.

I agree completely. When I heard that he had killed himself I cried. It upsets me a lot that both genius Pete Ham and genius Tom Evans died that way. Very depressing. There will never be another Pete Ham or Tom Evans. It's an impossibility.
@mauricehawkins29687 жыл бұрын
mama baehr . I quite agree. I believe it was George Harrison who enticed them to sign up for apple records. I've just seen a promotion video for no matter what but the one I remember being played all the time was come and get it. my mum would sing it when a meal was being served. peter ham also went on to write the wonderful without you. still one of the best ballads ever and a massive hit for harry nillson. what wonderful memories these songs create but what an awful tragedy of peter ham taking his life. on reflection another tragedy in the name of rock music! much missed!

I read somewhere ( I'm pretty sure in "Without You") That Pete wrote this song for Joey, because he was jealous of Pete for being chosen to play "Here Comes the SUn" with George harrison at the Concert for Bangledesh. Pete felt bad that Joey was upset (Pete also felt like he was being put up on a pedistal above the rest of the band, which he didn't want), so he wrote this for him. How sweet of him. RIP Pete, Tommy, and Mike.

This is one of my all time favorite Badfinger songs. For some reason, my top 3 favorite Pete tunes weren't written for/ about girls. They are "Take it All" and "Keep Believing'" (written for Joey) and "Dennis" (my number one fave, written for his girlfriend's son, Blair). In all three of those songs, I can almost feel what it seemed Pete was feeling as he wrote and sang them. I can't tell you how much Pete has inspired me. These guys are one of a kind.

I couldn`t agree more. To me this encapsulated the early seventies. The way they sounded and the way they looked. The story of Badfinger is the most tragic in the whole of rock n roll. They were a brilliant band and inspire me to this day.

@samstevens79737 жыл бұрын
The shame of Badfinger is Pete Ham was willing to be "democratic" to allow all of the band members equal song contributions. Not that they didn't have anything to contribute (Tom Evan especially) but Pete Ham was sooo far ahead of the rest in songwriting and singing. If you disagree (this is KZbin, after all) the simple fact that Pete Ham's estate released two disks of basic "outakes" that sold well is proof of agreement. Mollard and Evans couldn't make it without Ham. That's just a simple fact.
@diegoluigi762911 жыл бұрын
I love the whole set of six compilation. Really shows that Badfinger were 4, and not just Ham and Evans. If you dig through their albums (if you can find the originals) even Mike pops up on a lead vocal now and then!

Ya gotta remember; it was the early 70's and live music was still feeling it's own way along. I'm of an age (52) where I would go to concerts and the agenda was "turn everything up louder than everything else". I tended to do that in bands I played in. Sometimes, ya just don't know no better!

my friend and i met tom evans in a small club and talked about pete. he said after we expressed our sympathy-"tell me about it,i cut him down"-then signed an lp-"it's ten years later and at least i'm still alive" a few months later,he'd hung himself too!

Are you kidding me.... I had forgotten that this was my favorite song of my life back when I was 12 or so...1973. Although everyone was cueing up Baby Blue, Day After Day and such, (those of us who had to cue a song on a LP) I was crazy for this song. I was driving to my sisters house about a year ago and the greatest hits c d was in the car and when this song came on, I went crazy!!! what a song!!!

This band is the greatest band formed after The Beatles, but with a tragic and horrific history. It's like a perfect day except it rains in the afternoon or walking through nature everything alive and then seeing something that is dead meaning that the glory never really came and we lost Tom Evans and Pete Ham tragically and the bastard who caused Pete Ham to kill himself got clean away with it. Like the latest tragedy of the last election. Sometimes something really horrible happens right after something great. This is one of the most perfect songs ever written. A gem.
