I sat down with Josh Katz, Joey Morrow, Alex Espiritu, and Anthony Sonetti from Badflower after their set at Earthday Birthday in Orlando, FL! We talked about their album "OK, I'm Sick," their approach to discussing mental health in their music, the future of radio as a music streaming platform, their views on animal rights, and more.

Mad respect to the vegan singer for not disrespecting and judging someone who’s not vegan

I always love interviews with Badflower, however I wish that Anthony, Alex, and Joey were able to answer more questions. The mic strictly went to Josh, and the others didn't really get a chance to speak. Don't get me wrong, the questions were great and Josh always provides great responses, but the point of interviewing a band is to interview the band. 7:57 they were being quiet because they weren't asked anything

And she’s quite annoying, too extroverted, too attention drawing instead if letting the band talk

She even said, "We'll go down the line," then stopped after Josh. I actually think she's a pretty good interviewer, but that part made me laugh a bit in disappointment.

7:54 Asks the other band members what they think because they are so quiet and waves the mic in front of the rest of the band who has nothing to say but completely ignores the bass player (sorry I haven't learned your name yet). Sad, because in my opinion he brings the energy of the band to level 10 and I'd love to hear his take on much of what the band has done so far. Love that thick-ass bass, (so much energy) and delivered with a genuinely intense smile on top of it! I can tell he loves what he does and I'd love to hear more from him in interviews. Can't wait to see you guys in Denver in October. Look for me, I'm the drunk 50 year old with a long ass pony-tail and my two awesome kids that agreed to chaperone me!

I know right! I hate when interviewers only focus on the front man and when it constantly goes on it starts unfortunately bringing morale down in the band people start getting mad when they don't get to speak their piece. And yes Alex is the bass player I actually got to see one of their shows in Amarillo Texas and I met him and Joey and helped carry their equipment back to their van after the show and talked to Joey for a minute and Alex for good 15 minutes and they both signed my badlower ticket and he is a very cool down to earth dude. didn't care about me just chilling with him bye- the side door of his tour van talking to him while he's just getting stuff ready 2 get it back on the road. I really want to hear more of what he has to say in interviews as well he has a very unique personality from what I met of that 15 minutes I wish I could be a part of their band in some way because I feel like I would click with them very well especially Alex. Don't get me wrong I love what Josh has to say he is a great artist and a great frontman but unfortunately didn't get to meet him at the show. Maybe next time but yeah interviews should be the whole band speaking in some kind of way

I saw them with Shinedown, and I never even heard of them. And I fell in love. I can't stop listening to OK I'm Sick. Fucking awesome for a band to sing about mental health like they do. So much emotion and soul. It captivates me, especially because I'm bipolar and suffer from panic attacks and suicidal ideology. Good stuff.

"Rather than just writing cool riffs in rock songs then talking about the activism stuff on social media, why not actually put it in the music?" Well, because then your music is less likely to resonate with certain people, or resonate in a negative way, potentially decreasing the size of your platform for activism. Not knocking Josh's method at all -- Badflower has quickly become my favorite band (by a LOT) and I love everything about this man and this band. Just answering the question with my own ideas. I'm planning on getting into music production myself as the possibility of getting physically together with others to put music together becomes a reality again, and I have no qualms with "selling out" or any similar ideas for exactly this reason. The bigger my platform, the bigger the change I can have with my words apart from my art. That's if I succeed, of course. ;D
