I feel so bad noticing while Adorabat and Badgerclops shows Shin around Mao Mao looked...depressed. He says almost nothing and his face is just empty. Like he knew his dad wouldn't be impressed with anything in Pure Heart Valley cause he traveled to much more epic places and did so many amazing/heroic things around the world that Pure Heart Valley is basically nothing to Shin. And Mao Mao loves protecting the valley and feels so much confidence fighting off monsters. He even said "When you're not around, I actually kinda like myself." Meaning that just Shin's presence alone makes Mao Mao feel insecure and like he isn't even a hero. Mao Mao's confidence and happiness goes away knowing what his dad will think of Pure Heart Valley the same way he thinks Shin views him- so why bother try to make it seem like something so amazing when Mao Mao knows no matter what he'll do Shin won't ever be impressed/proud of him.

Here's my theory, I think shin mao never realized what or how he was treating his son. In the end I think shin mao was useing Mao Mao as a way to deny his height and how he probably use to feel like, weak, small and not powerful. This also explains the big suit and flash armer plus the way he acted when he got knocked out. He probably honestly sees himself in Mao Mao. (I honestly think his dad was the same as himself in terms of father hood) but in this episode when Mao Mao called him out like this it was the first time he realized what he was doing. That he was makeing HIS OWN SON feel the same way he felt, small. It's also when he realized how strong his son ACTUALLY was. I hope we see what happens between these two later on and get to meet the rest of maos maos fam.
