Interestingly, Rockstar seem to do a way better job at negotiating with actors through the production of GTA V and RDR2 than they did before in 2000's. Aside from becoming more experienced and learning from mistakes, it also seems like they finally got big enough to create a proper media advertisement and give actors the credit and recognition directly by the success of the games, instead of hiring those who were already famous in the first place. Ned Luke, Shawn Darnell Fonteno and Steven Ogg had an immense recognition boost thanks to GTA V, and the RDR2 cast seem to be gladly in touch with each other and their fans till today. Needless to say, the Rockstar's casting couch is what they haven't yet disappointed us with in any way. Lets hope that GTA 6 will do just as good in that regard

Most of the things you said was correct but I would really love if you uncover more about the other side of stories like why exactly Ray Liotta had problem or the other voice actors such as CJ or Niko. Actually all they wanted was some extra pay since the game did really well and in Hollywood movies they did get extra cut if movie performs well at the box office and it's nothing wrong to ask for it since they did most of the main efforts as the actors they were the main attractions and video games generally takens maximum effort in terms of mocap and acting plus don't forget that games always year after year generate money were as movie is just a one time go. So all and all I believe actors were right asking for extra cut and Rockstar as a billion dollar company could've easily effort. Our favourite characters like Tommy or CJ or Niko didn't appear in future entries simply because actors ask little bit more for the squeal or just some extra pay and Rockstar refuse because they can.

To be fair, Burt Reynolds and people like him are being directed by nerds and geeks who know nothing about art. I don't think he sounds like a nice guy, but as a person who's played thousands of games, I don't take the creators seriously as artists or anything of that calibre. L.A Noire shows us that game makers are no different to greedy Hollywood executives, they just don't get laid.

Honestly, we need Claude's actor back. Not only was his performance top notch, but he did it for free because of how much he loved the character. A shame they replaced him in Claude's appearance in San Andreas
@CyranofromBergerac4 жыл бұрын
Seriously, San Andreas Claude overdid the sex moans over the phone when Catalina calls Carl. The focus was on her being a crazy bitch but he tried to moan over her and make it all about him. It was late in production so they only did one take.

@@HuskyGamersUNITE I vaguely remember hearing something like that. Also apparently he played Soap in the original Modern Warfare? It's honestly pretty cool that he got more gigs after GTA. Def one of the better VAs I've seen.

Danny Trejo is my favorite actor that my dad got me into watching him my brother who is a couple years older than me had bought a PS2 and Vice City from gamestop got me into video games that resemble the ideas for some of Trejo's movies

Well I would imagine that hypothetically if I was the voice actor on any rockstar’s games I would’ve had a royalty clause in the contract because I know how popular the game would’ve been

I've always found Lagerfeld's concept art weird. It's made in a style much more similar to Vice City Stories's than GTA IV.

I don't get why actors would think they'd get royalty payments for voice acting in games. Sure, good voice acting adds value to the game. But I don't think the actor is the reason people buy the game the way they might be the reason people go to the movie. People buy games for the type of experience they want to have. Frankly, I myself am tired of the unthinking insistence on anthropomorphic characters in games and shoving "story" down my throat. I want to have fun. With GTA, creating havoc is fun AF. The story is the icing on the cake. That's all.

It like saying Mel Blanc’s performance is not the reason people like Looney Tunes lol Voice acting is just as important as regular acting for animated content. And ever since La Noire, Rockstar games have had actors. They are not soley voice actors they are literally doing motion capture performances in the roles as well. No different than Andy Serkis acting through motion capture.

Surely when you're offered a job you either accept it or refuse. Moaning later on that the people who employed you are making lots of money is not your concern. I think it would be great to be part of such a massive game. I'm sure many unknown but talented actors would be happy to be involved, with or without a vast pay cheque.
@rustlemejimmys2 жыл бұрын
Well its more they don't get any information on the size and scope of the game since all the information is on lockdown and they all sign NDA's prior to work. Impossible for them to properly negotiate. Id be pissed off I was only paid 100k to be the main character in a game with a development cost of 100 million which then made 500 million in its first week. Which you couldn't have known since rockstar wouldn't have told him anything. Voice actors in games get stiffed

To be honest, Royalties are an important topic that NEEDS to be addressed properly. If the actors you hired MADE your game a huge success, at least have the decency to let them have their piece of the action as well. ESPECIALLY when your game literally makes so much money, it basically finances your next 3 games and keeps making money like crazy. I love actors and respect their talent a lot so i'd forever be grateful for their participation in making something a huge success.
@xx1norm1xx3 жыл бұрын
Main and supporting actors should be able to receive royalty payments imo or at the very least have a choice like movie actors. Alot of the time a characters performance makes the game, its why we complain when publishers replace voices with celebrities or just new actors. Nolan North, Jennifer Hale, Troy Baker, Michael Ironside, Lance Reddick, etc all do an amazing job with their characters and imo are irreplaceable.

I generally don't put much stock in people bitching about not being paid enough, but the guy who made 100k for 15 months of work while being the lead(?) in the game making about a half a billion dollars IS pretty shitty. The dude was probably living in California, with a top tax bracket of 13%, plus crazy high cost of living, and all the other income taxes, he could probably barely afford rent. That's only 6 grand PRE TAX. probably like 3800 a month after taxes. It IS pretty fucked up that you could be the lead in a half billion dollar venture and not even be able to afford to make ends meet in a shitty apartment. Dude is valid af.
