I need to sort my power out in the workshop. So I made a stand for my solar panels.

I am amazed those solar panels are not secured to the roof in anyway considering the storms we have had in the UK over the last few years. Genuinely speechless on that front but great video as always.

Re the raised frame catching the wind, when I was a solar panel fitter we used to fit similar roof trays for flat roof installs. Ours were plastic, but otherwise the design was almost identical. They weren't secured to the roof in any way, but there were heavyweight webbing straps riveted into the base of each tray, so they lay flat on the roof. We located the trays, then put a couple of paving slabs over each strap before attaching the panels to the top. This was fine with building control on GRP and EPDM roofs, but personally I wouldn't be too convinced by doing it on old fashioned bituminous felt, as it's a bit less robust. For your excellent bespoke frame, I'd suggest attaching a base panel made of something like a webbing lattice, heavyweight permeable landscaping membrane (eg Teram), or even an offcut of cargo net. Then you can weight the frame down and we can all relax on your behalf next time the wind blows!! Best of luck!😊

Matt - I don't know why you didn't just put a couple of blocks under one side of your frame. You'd have used far less material and it would have been quicker and easier? Also not sure why you used the bandsaw for the long rip cut when you'd already go the track out for getting the line - why not just run the tracksaw down it at that point?

Thanks Matt, I'm sure that will make a noticeable difference, so a well worth while project even on a dull day ! You seemed very at ease and chatty in this video, so I hope you also felt it yourself, well done for keeping up with the resolutions too !

semi-warm - a technical term, I believe Matt?

Hey Dude. I am concerned about your wind fix. From a physics perspective, the horizontal wind force component resolves to the same force for either an open cavity or your now closed cavity. The projected area is the same for both cases. I appreciate why fixing into the roof is not preferred. You could, however, fix a couple of cables to your frame, and then fix the cables to the ground (on one or both sides). I’d sleep a sight easier with some restraint on those now raised panels.

Awesome work, Matt! 😃 But yeah, a bit of angle makes a lot of difference for solar panels! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

A frame similar to a deck chair would enabe you to alter the angle during the year. The sun's altitude varies between 15 and 60 degrees as the year progresses.

I assumed that you would just hold aloft your largest hammer and say in a commanding voice, “ by the power of badger!” And create a lightening bolt to power your entire house and shop for the foreseeable future.

A clear well thought idea of improvement. On another point your filming seems to have taken quite a leap forward, I think you are now storyboarding your filming. It shows in the use of close ups are clearer dialogue, well done.
