cool video! do you know how to get the spring loaded neutral cap off? I need to remove it so I can weld a sprocket on the spool. Thanks William

Mine didn't have a gasket or grommets on it! But mine is on a golf cart I use around the yard. Wireless works decent but it can go off randomly with the remote out of range. It went off in my pocket and it apparently started paying in some time over night because I woke up to a broke cable. Luckily the wench mount I welded up was over kill and wasn't damaged.

I use this winch quite often and I can easily pull a 2,000 lb., vehicle onto a car trailer.

Do you know if I can change the direction how these things pull out? In my Kubota Rtv my predrilled holes don’t align with how it is from factory on the winch, but if I turn it around it lines up just fine. I noticed it has a piece of thin metal on the back side of the spool preventing it from pulling out that way. Didn’t know if I can remove that and put it on other side and wire it backwards would that work.

you should, just by swapping the motor leads and how the cable is wound on will make it work.

You sound like a nice guy, but it's hard to take you serious when you are using a metal ( just one slip and if contact is made in the wrong way, it could be messy) stool for work bench. And to call it "a shitty winch" even before opening the box ...you at least back tracked a little on that after examining it. Own one of those winches, have used it hard for just over 2 years and have not had one problem. The main thing is to maintain it and not to over load it. Anyway, good luck with the winch and You Tube.

+Mike Norris true, it hard to have bench space when your building a house. go look at AVE's channel, (good videos) can't swing a dead cat in his shop. it's only 12 volts and it has a built in circuit breaker so there's very little risk. the controls make it a poor winch, shortly after i shot this i was using it to help pull my garden tractor up a slippery slope and the relay stuck closed and would not stop ended up ripping the wire out of the connector on the battery to make it stop. my rule of thumb on anything made with no name brand i de-rate it by 25-40%. you correct on maintaining and not thrashing on it. also if you would like me to touch touch on any topics? let me know! i hope you have a great day

I've had mine for awhile and aint had any problems with it. I didn't care for the remote from day one so I done the switch mod on it. It's piggy backed with the remote but honestly I haven't used the remote one time after the first time. It's been hanging on the roof net on my buggy. For the $50 I gave for it I've been overly impressed and would buy another one in a heartbeat. My cable has also been hanging on a hook in the shop since day one. Amsteel is the only way to go IMHO.

thanks for making this video I recently purchased one of those exact wenches could you please informing what gauge wire I really should be using thanks
@chainsawsandgenerators99527 жыл бұрын
it all depends on how far your running the wire, it comes with about 5' of #10 wire i like to do things overkill, i'd run #8 to the power source and mount the circuit breaker that come with the winch as close to the battery as possible, spliced into the positive cable. good luck man

Crap, used mine a few times with a light load and it hopelessly jammed up and destroyed the cable and guide.
@wrybread2 жыл бұрын
Me too! On my very first use, earlier today, that exact thing happened. The cable jammed, which was probably my fault, I wasn't watching it closely enough and it wound outside the spool, but in a second or two it was hopelessly jammed and broke the guide and the thing was dead enough for me to return it. To Harbor Freight's credit they gave me a refund. It could really use better guides, I don't think that should have been that destructive.

This was a decent video by showing how the motor built. Your opening comments, however, were ''SHIT''. Like you, too many people believe that if it's a product from Harbor Freight, it's a ''HUNK A SHIT'' to use your exact words. I have a couple of these winches (1 I got off Ebay, the other I bought at the store), but, yes, I am having a problem with it. I merely wanted to watch this video to see how the motor was constructed, not to hear your constant negative remarks. All in all, it looked like a pretty good winch despite your obvious (almost hopeful) wishes the thing wouldn't work. You could have, at least, said something at the end of the video about how you were wrong by calling this winch ''A HUNK A SHIT''. Other than the poor way ''you'' had the positive wire connected to the battery, this winch appeared to work as it should. If you can't say anything good about something, don't say anything at all. Particularly if you have no idea what you're commenting about in the first place.
