I think the scanner/bunker door arrangement can be made more efficient with a memory block. Take the existing output of the scanner (green = meteor, after 160s -- signal M). Pass it through a not gate (!M). !M goes to the R port of a memory block (output B). Output B goes to the bunker doors. It also goes to a buffer gate (10s, output B'). B and B' go to an XOR gate (B"), then (M AND B") go to the S port of the memory block. If I've drawn this out correctly, the circuitry after the memory block will result in a green signal only if the door state has not changed for 10 seconds. That signal acts to filter the "open the doors" signal from the scanner, so a brief pulse of "doors closed, forget the meteors boys" gets ignored, but at the end of a meteor shower the doors will have been closed for a while and the open signal should go straight through.
@FrancisJohnYT4 жыл бұрын
Will give this a go, could save 10 seconds of solar power each time.
@Majromax4 жыл бұрын
Oops! In reading this out again, I realize I've messed up some NOT gates. First of all, M, not !M, goes to the R port of the scanner. The memory block should output a red signal when meteors are detected, and you get that by resetting the output on detection. Second, the output of B" should also go through a NOT gate. (B xor B') will be green when the signal has changed recently, and we need to invert that to forbid setting the memory block. Finally, the S port of the memory block should get (M AND !B").

I did the math. There are 200 jumbo batteries in the battery box. Each leeches out 2KJ per cycle, or 3.33j per second. At 200 batteries, your looking at a loss equivalent of 667 watts. You’d need 2 solar panels operating at near maximum charge to make up that difference. This is why you use the smart batteries.
@FrancisJohnYT3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but that is not nearly as much fun :)
@sebbes3334 жыл бұрын
*@Francis John* A thought, is it possible to build a base with almost no piping? (to maybe reduce lag) eg: You need to move liquid from the bottom of the map to the top: use a door compressor or other glitch to infinitely compress the liquid into a 1 tile shaft that pushes it all up, then at the top you MAYBE have a pump & pump it the shortest distance possible, into some machine that needs it. eg: No cooling loops that go all around the map, instead you have a "shower system" that drops the cooling liquid along maybe a staircase design that cools down & provides the cooling. And so on. I think this would be a really interesting challenge. The a big problem is probably moving gases around, but maybe something like the liquid system can be used? But the biggest problem is probably moving power around, since there are no way to move power outside of wires (it would be fun if it was possible to build iron floors & walls & just electrify it (@modders, hint hint ;) ), but you could for example move petroleum up close to the generators & just pump it in the last shortest distance.
@FrancisJohnYT4 жыл бұрын
I don't think power wires are bad for lag. However pipe most certainly are, if I limited myself on the cooling front I could speed up the game by a lot. Though I let the game run overnight with a big sweep command and the game appears to have improved in speed.

Convection is not a mechanic in this game. If I let the water go all the way to the bottom the bottom will just get colder than the top. Is the battery array with the Steam turbine power neutral? How much of the energy leak do the batteries produce in heat? If they produce less heat than the energy leak actually should cause then the whole array will suck a lot of power.
@FrancisJohnYT4 жыл бұрын
The whole thing is a net energy loss, it costs roughly 600 watts in run off and you only make back about 200. But on the bright side it's fun to build and is a cooling solution with no moving parts.

If you use smart batteries, it's almost power neutral. It costs 125 watt of which you get about 100 back as heat. In my latest map I’ve built a remarkably similar system to yours with a scanner array with perfect coverage on the left. Rockets in the middle. And the solar array on the right with one scanner relying on the perfect network coverage. Be careful I had to add an automation line to this solar array scanner because when the network signaled incoming meteors and closed the bunker doors the solar array scanner would immediately open its doors as soon as they closed presumably because it had not yet detected the meteors and then list the network signal as soon as the bunker doors had closed. Perhaps, your filter gate will solve this annoying problem. I just ran an automation line across the rocket bays and haven’t had a problem since. I used my overflow oxygen vented onto the robominers with drywall backing instead of a loop. Has worked well for hundreds of cycles at 200 g/s oxygen distributed to the robominers. You can also add a simple regolith removal system by placing an automatic dispenser below each robominer station along with an auto sweeper for each station. If you position the automatic dispensers right so that the auto sweeper can only access one automatic dispenser and the tile where the automatic dispenser drops material at an adjacent station (I did this by placing the dispenser on a mesh tile and extending the bottom tile of the robominer tiles down by one) you can daisy chain the automatic dispenser to move the regolith either left or right then place a vole ranch right underneath the end automatic dispenser station so it falls right in.

you know since one of the challenges for this paythrough was to only get plastic from glossy dreckos, maybe next playthrough you should try to only refine raw metals using smooth hatches

So two extreme types of players: a) Those that cook their base by carelessly putting a battery too close to their farm. b) Those that use a volcano to preheat their battery box cooling solution. My comfort zone is somewhere between a) and b). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

just put a steel automation rail loop through magma and ship the regolith into it.
@FrancisJohnYT4 жыл бұрын
I want to do a counterflow heat system to recycle the heat, that way I can convert the system straight to a regolith melter.

There is a great mod that shows the range of buildings, it was a must have for me when i started doing space. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1960996649 Really simplifies things, especially with scanners!

Don't you think what you have there is super excessive just to move "regolith" away from the surface? That's such an unnecessary amount of effort and energy that you have to go spend just to push meteor debris away. Nothing else, just push 1000's of tonnes of regolith out of the way. I really don't think thats the way to make space more difficult. Meteors? Yes, definitely. 100 tonne of regolith dumped on your base every cycle? Come on. Who thought this was best way to make a space program complicated? If you want space to be more difficult, why not some sort of rocket maintenance/repair? Maybe a rocket can sometimes have an accident and you have to send a rescue rocket to help out. Maybe the rockets need to overcome gravity with a powerful first stage or maybe the 100k+ ring needs a 2nd "long haul" stage that requires double size liquid hydrogen and oxygen tanks made of space metal due to immense long term storage pressure. Maybe the rocket command module has to be filled with enough food for the dupe/s. Also on top of all this, if you have water and oil geyers, the oil reservoirs don't run out. So... You don't even need space harvesting for any reason. Like.. Who is urgently building liquid cargo rocket fleets to collect water? That would be an AWESOME situation to be in.

The Regolith was introduced to act as a replacement for filtration medium, in the before time maps use to run out of sand and dirt. Regolith solved the problems but then they introduced more solutions later that made regolith redundant. Sort of the same as algae distilleries, due to the introduction of electrolizers and renewable water no one every needs to use them.

if you use diamond tiles, or metal tiles, could the miners be cooled without liquid by cooling the tiles that the miner is attached to?
@FrancisJohnYT4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no, tiles do not exchange heat with buildings directly. Their needs to be a medium like gas or liquid for that to happen.

@@FrancisJohnYT having a high temp steam line used to cool a steel miner for a volcano petrol boiler might be something i explore in the future.
