One thing to keep in mind, it was not just a "perceived" crime against the brothers. The bank discovered that oil was found on the land before the surveyor told their mother. They accelerated her loan and made it impossible for her to keep the land... thus actually stealing it from her and her family. So they defaulted her on a $40,000 loan, when they knew she was going to be making $50,000 a month (by stealing her land they were also stealing that oil money and they knew it). If she had known, she could have used the oil money to pay off her debts in a heartbeat. Two wrongs don't make a right, but a bank robbing an old lady is just as bad (if not worse) as an individual rubbing a bank.

The cowboy moving his cattle across the road to escape the grass fire is Taylor Sheridan.. He wrote the screenplay and produced the film. He also wrote and produced YELLOWSTONE. In YELLOWSTONE he played Travis, the guy who took Jimmy to 4 Sixes in Texas. All of the horses used in YELLOWSTONE are his horses from his ranch in Whyoming.

As others have said, this movie (poverty and heritage) is part of a thematic trilogy with Sicario (drug trade and the border) and Wind River (missing and murdered indigenous women). I would call them modern westerns.

Oh, I love True Grit - underappreciated, but well-loved by those who have seen it. It's somewhat the rebirth of Josh Brolin's career, and a very young Hailee Steinfeld was very good and very memorable in it. Jeff Bridges of course is good for all time zones.

I have not watched all of your reactions yet, but so far this is my favorite. I was born and have lived most of my life in rural Texas. This is very much old school Texas. You could almost smell the overheated plastic in those trucks. I have also spent many years in Oklahoma with large populations of Native Americans. I appreciate that you have a reasoned approach to the subject matter in this film and aren't looking for every opportunity to be outraged and appreciated it for what it is. 9.5/10 reaction and movie!

When you think about it, the term native American describes anyone born in the United States, and I suppose the American continents. I certainly am a native

@@choosetolivefree Okay, give me a term that isn't offensive to anyone and if it makes sense I will use it.

@@PlasticMacele Oh I wasn't saying it was offensive or anything. I was just pointing out that we don't really have any accurate terms for "indians"/natives/the various things people call them
@PlasticMacele2 жыл бұрын
@@choosetolivefree I suppose you're right about that. My original instinct was to call them indigenous, but because that means naturally occurring from a certain place, I rejected it and went with the more traditional term of native. Humans didn't evolve in the Americas. We are all migrants even the East Asians/Mongolians etc. Fair point.

Only gripe I had with this movie was when they were driving away from the gas station and Ben Foster gripes “I asked for Dr. Pepper, this is Mr. Pibb.” And Pine says “Thats all they had.” No store in Texas would sell Mr. Pibb and not sell Dr. Pepper. Along with sweet tea, Dr. Pepper is the house wine of the state.

Generally, the West was not taken from the Indians by "wealthy, powerful interests". Trickles of poor homesteaders moved into and settled the same land the Indians occupied. Quite understandably, the Indians took exception and started raiding settlers and settlements. Quiite understandably, the US government tried to protect the settlers, and it all went downhill from there. The whole process was made worse by the fact that no tribe was "ruled" in the same way as the whites were. If the chief signed a treaty, he had no way to enforce it, and no way to prevent bands of young bucks from deciding that raiding the whites was a good way get rich and get a reputation.
