I'm 52 and started playing badminton again last december 2020 after more than a decade break. Real world gets in the way and all that. But now that I'm back into it your videos have made getting back into playing form easier and faster. Plus I've learned a few new things along the way as well. Thanks for all the hard work you put into these videos and am looking forward to more. Cheers!

I routinely used all these exercises while coaching county juniors and they are all excellent (not least because space was always at a premium with squad coaching). Additionally, and because young players enjoy and focus well on exercises with an outcome, I would set them an exercise of "half court speed badminton". In short, a half court game in which rallies last no more than 30 seconds (timed on a stop watch). A point is gained if a player manages to find a winner within the 30 seconds or the rally ends in a draw and the serve automatically swaps over. After a set of three rallies the time is then reduced by 5 seconds to 25 seconds and this process repeats with reductions of 5 seconds after every three rallies until you get down to the make or break five second game (by which point the receiver is all over the server like a cheap over coat). It's fun, becomes incrementally more manic and fast paced and I found it sharpened my players dramatically, encouraging purpose to shots rather than just "getting the shuttle over the net". A more advanced variation of this is to limit the serves to always being low serves as this brings in a competitive practice of both the low serve and return (in my opinion, crucial for good, effective doubles at all levels).
@BadmintonInsight
@BadmintonInsight 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and great ideas! Conditioned games is something we like to do and will do a video on in the future for sure :) And yes it's always good to practice the serve and put stress on it so that it's hopefully easier in a match situation! Once again thanks for the comment and keep it up :D

These exercises are nice but I guess most of us watching/learning from your videos are beginners or intermediate level players and may not have skills or partner to practice these exercise. As a beginner, I just strive to push the shuttle on to the other side. However, I like your videos and have been practicing the serve. I have seen the video multiple times and every time, I learn something new from that video. I have been playing with intermediate level players lately and that has improved my game a lot. Please cover the exercises for the non racket hand/shoulder in forthcoming videos. Also few quick exercises before and after playing. Many of us are casual players and cannot follow professional exercise routine. Keep up the good work!

Nice humble brag with the world record! =) On a more related note, this got me to thinking. I've encountered players who will drive "too hard" or aim to "kill" during these practice sessions making it almost impossible to get any rhythm, consistency, or any real benefit. Most of the time, I would quickly switch to a different drill or call to start a match. So perhaps you two can do a video on badminton gym training/warm up/playing etiquette. Other things you can cover are when groups of players walk too close to, or inside of a court while a game is in session, or who should be contributing the shuttles and when, what to do when a shuttle flies off to a neighboring court, recommended ways to give the shuttle to the opponent after they win a point, and so on.
@BadmintonInsight
@BadmintonInsight 3 жыл бұрын

First of all i really enjoy your content and its been helping me in tournaments a lot! But this 1 question keeps popping up in my head... you guys dont have a trainer?? Or make muscle recovery/gaining videos.. i would love this type of content cauqe it is overlooked by a lot of players.. and the trainer part, do you record yourself to find mistakes and arent you worried that you overlook some mistakes that are overslept on by you and your teamate? Or havent we met your trainer yet

My biggest problem is to switch the grip as fast as you do like in exercise 7. Sometimes my drive gets bad because i turned my racket too much or to less in a quick rallye. Maybe a topic for another video? Couldnt figure out if you allready covered it maybe in your videos about the different types of the grip…

Thanks guys! If your opponent gives you a lob that is almost at the end of the back court and you want to attack, would you recommend a stick smash in that situation? I think my problem is that at the very back line my full smash is weaker.

Wow just realized that both of you are left-handed. Such a rare sight to see in a doubles partner.

How hard do you find half-court practices mentally?
@BadmintonInsight
@BadmintonInsight 3 жыл бұрын
As hard as any practice! Full focus is always needed. Of course it is easier to 'switch off' on some practices and have a real focus for others such as 2v2 routines. But the best players are the best because they have the ability to constantly train with the intensity that they would bring to a match situation
