Raise your hand if you saw the gates snap shut at badtide starts, and knew exactly how that was going to play out to set the gates to open when badtide ends. Hence why floodgates have a stream gauge option to connect them. Would assume you could set that to 0 contamination and they would open appropriately.

Now we just need some kind of automated door/gate which cuts off a road when the water is bad, so beavers don't go collect wood beyond the water.

31:20 watching you set the floodgates to instantly drop down at the end of a bad tide knowing that it takes a day or so to flush all the sludge out of the river and you're going to contaminate everything. Yes, I've done it myself, so I'm not casting aspersions, lol. We all learn the hard way. 39:50 - There we go!

I love your title cards. They're clean, simple, easy to spot, and not some kind of terrible clickbait format like so many other channels are devolving into. It showcases something interesting from the episode, and lets us know its you. Also, longer episodes are fine and dandy. Gonna be honest, usually have one of your playlists running on the 2nd monitor while doing other things so I can follow along and glance over if I hear something interesting. The longer the episodes the more time I have to chill with one of my favorite channels during my day.

If you move the Flood gates at the little island a bit farther upstream and take out the cove, it should move the contamination farther up and keep the few trees alive. another advantage of seperating the river is you will be able to put water wheels on the bad water side and make a good amount of power.

I suggest that since you are going to irrigate the inner regions anyways why not just build all the utilities and houses on the river edge and have all the inner lands for farming? This will also give you more time to have a better solution for the bad tides instead of having to rush halving the river for more crop space

Instead of cutting the river in half wich is going to take a lot of logs and is only going to protect you so much from bad tides. Make a 2 high dam from the end of the island to the left and remove the barriers and with only 2 or 3 sets of flootgates you can divert all the good and bad towards and away from your village.

A suggestion for long term once you have bridged across the river. Move your tree farms across the river and replace the current area with farms instead. You can use the reservoir you just made for the aquatic farms without needing to do anything special.

Loving the new series! I'd suggest going over the river, up 1 tile (where the old dead Oaks were), & planting a water dump with a new batch of Oaks. The current Oak forest seems a bit to inconsistent - with only 1 tile of water their growth will continue to be delayed in the longer draughts ...and your use of water dumps on that side of the river is somewhat friverlent already!

RIP Edit: instead of placing levees all the way, I placed levees and floodgates going straight down from your latest dam that you made, and removed the blockades, easy to allow water in and stop bad water. Happy Tuesday :) As someone who has a deteriorating sight issue I really appreciate a continuity with title cards & it really helps me if I'm having a low vision with text day, I can see at a glance (and know) the video series & creator. Also, from a Branding perspective; it's always helpful to keep your Branding concise, smart & maintained across projects. :) As for this ep, might I suggest investing in the Stream guage next? Help out with the flood gates so the whoopsie doesn't happen again. I was so saddened to see the entire new oak forest wither, I'm so glad you caught it when you did!! If you are going to split the river with levees it would likely be better to maintain the width of the badtide flow from the existing split, it would likely take about the same amount of levees as making it a smaller slither of good water, and has the bonus of potentially giving more good water for pumping for drinking. There is a spot for a small warehouse to put raw potatoes in between the old carrot storage and the grill :P

On the right-hand side, on the last turn down the mountain, you can block the river to divert the bad tide completely. That way you'll never have any bad water on the left side of the map.
@PauxloE
@PauxloE Жыл бұрын
→ With the 1.5 day delay between the season switch and when it arrives at your colony, the automated switch is likely less useful. I think getting the stream gauges to switch things based on pollution will be the next important thing to do. Until then, I guess you need to operate the floodgates manually. → As mentioned by others, until you can get the bad water problem solved, I'd recommend putting your buildings at the location where the ground is regularly contaminated, so you keep the farm space clear. → Uses of extract for Folktails: The dirt extractor uses one extract for getting 6 dirt (for terraforming), and the refinery uses it to make catalyst for bots. The explosives also need bad water directly, so there is at least a bit of incentive for getting a bad water pump at some point, if not the centrifuge. → As also suggested by someone else, instead of splitting the river in length, building a 2-3 level levee/floodgate thing a bit upstream and then shoving the bad water over the mountain pass might be best. Then you can also increase the height of your lower dam to contain more water during the harsh seasons.

Extract: used for Tier 2 and 3 Explosives, Dirt Excavator, and Medical Bed. You cant forget about the Medical Bed, it is super important. I really do would like to see more race specific production lines and variations using some of the resources available to both. Id also really like to see some other races in vanilla as well as some sort of campaign style playthrough path. Like creating settlements to a specific progression point, inventory level, or connecting to a special node at the edge of some new maps that would lore wose connect to neighboring settlements or new lands to settle. The goal would be to get to some lore specific location, possibly bringing the multiple races together throughout the campaign missions. As much as i do love the sandbox build it as much as you want and how you want aspect of the game id still love to see some structured story side to the game as well. The idea of even more races with unique race specific resources and/or production lines each having their own lore/beliefs from over the ages of isolation from the other races of the world. Ooooh imagine a race of Icy Beavers that live in frozen areas and have unique ways of going about even the simple tasks of the game. Now keep in mind that all this would be on par with the vanilla races, no crazy bonkers super duper convoluted progression/tech tree like the Water Beavers mod... although id love to see a vanilla water beavers that keeps the aspect of nearly everything being a home/dam but with the vanilla level of production/tech tree. I have put in enough time on the U4 Water Beavers mod, i dont wanna deal with 37 step processes that take 192729273 real world hours to accomplish. LOL!

At the river outflow area, I put a row of dams on top of a row of levees for more water reserves. Then I blocked of the river fork with levees on the "north" side and levees with 3 one high water gates going north-south. Then I destroyed the removeable dams south of that. So, on bad tides you just raise the flood gates and the bad water with flow out to the south.

It's interesting that the beavers can build bots, trains, gravity batteries, but can't run pipes or aquaducts. If your beavers have 3 minutes where they're not flat out, then build another water tank and a set of stairs leading up the cliff. Eventually you'll have heaps of water stored and access to the top of the cliff. Lining the river bank with contamination barriers is going to be a "Hero Project". Blast in a badwater diversion channel from the island and off to the 'left"(?) of the screen? Also ask the devs/mods for a compass pointer! lol

39:50 i figured to you would notice what would happen about setting the floodgate to open when bad tides end. I recommend putting a stream gauge somewhere up stream and setting it to control the gates, purely based on contamination levels in the water, I'll post an example in the discord. When i finish the video. Also it's Simple Floodgate Triggers for anyone who wants this mod that JC badly mangled

47:00, I would unplant the trees that get killed by the badtide. It seems a waist to have the forester replant trees that are going to be killed anyway.

Does the new large water pump or efficient water pump or what it's name is take extract to run or build? If not it might be a good idea to start trying getting it. And maybe having the pumps running during bad tides if you have the beavers for it. A little water is better than none. Birch plywood, could be something that they could do something cool with.

I wouldn’t open when bad tides stop because of the cooling period. Def put a water gauge and make the mix of contamination to 0.01 and they’ll close.

I know i‘m 3 Months late😅 but can‘t you keep running the waterpumps in a badtide? It says it filters the water but badwater just slows it down? Thank you for your videos! Greetings from Switzerland

Would it be worth the effort to platform across the river and have a dedicated tree plantation and farm with fluid dumps? Seems like favorable land, Just to keep the stuff that has to grow away from the bad water?

I'm a bit late to the video, but especially on a hard playthrough on helix like this, birch trees miiiight have been able to grow a few times and give you some logs, rather than the oaks that kept dying right away?

if levees block bad water from impacting land could you just levee the coast?

Has anyone does the math to compare the checkerboard tree cutting versus just cutting in stripes? I can think of an argument for checkerboard being better, but it depends on some behind the scenes game mechanics that I don't know the details of.

Ok, can anyone answer as i dont have the game, wish i did, what level does the fluid dump keep the tile of water at? Had an idea but have no idea if it would work, can a fluid dump keep water topped up but not over flowing a dam? Meaning you would not have to wait to unlock leveys like on episode 1 to use a fluid dump early game and could of saved the crops earlier on? Hope that makes sense
@JCTheBeard
@JCTheBeard Жыл бұрын
It *should* keep the fluid filled all the way up to the bottom of the fluid dump. But it doesn't let you adjust that height, it just goes until it "hits the switch" so to speak, and then it stops dispensing. So if you put it in an area that was surrounded by dams then the fluid dump would just never stop dispensing water, since the dams only count as something like 0.667 height and the fluid dump is more or less 1.000

I don't want to be "that guy" but you know about the barrier that blocks contamination, right? You put it on the block of land right on the shore, and it blocks the contamination behind. So if I remember correctly, the trees stay hydrated from the bad water, but not contaminated.
@Petq011
@Petq011 9 ай бұрын
True, it leaves less place for trees and plants, but they would at least be safe from the contamination, so yeah.

At the time this video was made, we hadn't been able to make the materials required for the contamination barrier yet. We do eventually end up building some, though!

Why don't you just destroy the blockages and use levys to divert bad tide to the south? instead of cutting the river in two?

Why not split the channel that your water flows down into 2 using levee's this would prevent contamination during bad tides without the need for metal which is a previous resource
