Well, many people had work at restaurants in general at some point in their life. Even me worked as system administrator for one restaurant chain and have a week "Meet our top office workers as waitress" random event. That was fun but not so serious at all, fk ups was expected.

I wish I could take her approach and do a job because it sounds like fun. Thing is the stuff I think sounds fun requires degrees I don't have, to get those degrees I would need to go further into debt, and I probably wouldn't get hired anyway.

In theory, Australia has strong enough labour laws that such shifts should attract a few hours of overtime pay. And working 7 days a week would also mean getting paid overtime for whole shifts until she got a couple of days off. (The specifics are too complicated for a KZbin comment, but it's based on an average of 5 workdays per week). If there was no exaggeration in what she said, then I'm pretty confident that she was illegally underpaid. Trouble is, underpayment in the restaurant industry is pretty rife, and she might not have gotten any better at any other restaurant in her area.
