Talk about Shimano I think one think Y0 did bad for the series is it overhype Shimano. In Y0 he is so smart and scary I expected him to be like Palpatine or Kingpin since he have Majima as his ultimate weapon too. And then I playing Kiwami I'm so disappointed that he's just a musclehead boring villian not even a main villian of the game.

Start with Y1/2 on PS2 emulation if you can. The wait until you get to 0 is so much more worth it as you scale up and see how the series has changed + not as jarring going from 2 to 3 + each game feels more faithful to the year it came out

Meanwhile 3 felt like it never evolved past the PS2 era beyond graphics and third person camera in the open world. Graphics in these titles are still fine. If anything, their gameplay hurts more since it's missing valuable Quality of Life stuff. ESPECIALLY 3 oh my god. 3 was done dirtiest since that one desparately needed the treatment the most.

Kiwashit 2 and Dragon Engine looked like arse. And played like so as well. I was THRILLED to get back to the "old engine" and its crisp visuals + tactile, responsive, "arcadey" gameplay when I got to Y3. It may have idiotic as hell plot, but it PLAYS better than K1-2. I'd much rather play the PS2 original Y1 and 2.
