One could argue the schizo "Mad Dog" persona is just that, a persona he created to live the Yakuza life without fear of being used again. But as the series progresses he pretty much becomes more and more chill, specially when Saejima returns, to a point even people who only know Goro Majima by his craziness start to find strange how "normal" he acts.

The moment they showed past Majima in flashbacks, and Bae said she wasn't a fan of the hair, I was giggling like a mad dog for this moment. No matter where she looks, it's hell.

I notice this happens with every girl that starts with Yakuza 0. The first time they see Majima it's as this gentleman forced to put on an act for his masters, they fall in love with this version as he goes through the story to save an innocent girl, and then they have a real, actual crisis when he changes to the Mad Dog. Most of these girls never truly recover, and some even get upset when they see him again in Kiwami 1 as his true Majima self.

I play Y0 then Kiwami 1. The change of appearance in Majima was shocking to me too. The slow(?) descend to madness was not something I can put words into. After some time, Majima grew on you like how he grew on Kiryu. "Kiryuuuuuuu chaaaaann"

That scene is completely non-canon. Kiryu doesn't even meet Majima until much later on in the mid 90s.

@@somedudewatchintv5297 Not really. The development happened over the course of the game, the only thing that changed abruptly was their appearance which is in reaction to the completed development. Majima’s development came with being tortured, caged, and meeting characters like Lee and Nishitani, and finally being pushed to the edge trying to save Makoto. All that was his development. Him flipping his switch in the end and changing his appearance was just the final piece as now that he’s gone through that development he’s decided how he wants to live now that he is free.

I liked Majima so much in 0 that I stopped playing in Kiwami because Majima doesn't have a major part and Kiryu doesn't do it for me since Majima was just so much better in 0. Majima's arc in 0 is so weird. Some writer had to sit down and create a cool, thoughtful, sympathetic player character, and then work out how to convert him over the course of the game into the most annoying NPC in the franchise. Prequels always end up doing the weirdest shit, yo. :)
