buymeacoffee.com/ebikebuilder I welded the clutch in my BAFANG G62 geared hub motor, and I am testing out regen!! Using my FLIPSKY 75100 PRO V2 controller. $10 OFF FLIPSKY with code EBB at flipsky.net/products/flipsky-...

Might be time to get another flipsky and hook it up to the front motor. VESC can connect two controllers together so they will work together. Double motors means more power and thermal mass for lower temps. Also regen throttle would be cool that way you can also coast

Time to hack a Bosch motor to prove idiots wrong, my neighbour bought a Bosch motor ebike, spent 5000€, and only used it not even once a month.

Got an email @ 2AM from Flipsky & my 75100 Pro V2 with the key starter shipped. YeeeHaaaa. Can't wait to get this Mars 2.0 finished & running to try out the 26" air forks to replace the 20" springer forks on it when bought. I was thinking maybe fine mesh wire screen J B welded to the motor case to cover the holes drilled might keep debris out of the motor but vent the motor still. The rain would still get in but maybe the heat would evaporate the moisture & not be a problem in light rain or misting.

I’ve thought about that , The mesh, its a good idea. You could JB weld the mesh to the inside. And then use rubber plugs on the outside. The vent holes are awesome 👏 rain not going to be a problem when that thing is an oven. Unless its absolutely downpouring, then plug it , i think it would be fine

Regen is comparable to jake/compression type braking in large trucks. Regen should be used when your battery is between 35-80% and it should be used when you need to bleed off a little kinetic energy over a long duration. It should not be used solely to stop your vehicle. Regen works best with a progressive dedicated regen throttle. Regen that is either on or off is not useful in modulating your speed.using regen at low battery levels means more current flows which means more heat generation and inefficiency. Using a dual motor setup is always better for regen and can split the work burden between the two or more motors. Good luck :3

Thanks for testing out the welded clutch and the 'vented' side covers. Over the years of watching people enable regen, it seems only the 'clamp' style torque arms resist the large rocking forces in the axel over the long term. It would be interesting to see a temperature comparison between vented and non-vented with a non-welded clutch (yes, I'm aware it is a bit late for that now :) )

i think I can get some kind of rubber plugs to plug the holes, for the winter and stuff, Ill have to look into that. But these things get hot AF. Grin Tech has the overheat temp listed as 150C. which is when the windings risk melting. I will probably get the clamping torque arm. But i have a bunch of these other ones I will try to preload in opposite directions first to evaluate that option

ali express i got 40 brake pads for 40$ so 20 sets of pads. I had regen, but like you said, the heat was a little much for my liking, and I lost my coasting abilities.. When i set regen to the lightest setting it still didnt feel the same as no regen when coasting. Ill stick to the 60 day pad change cycle lol.

even with shimano B05S they last a bit longer... I still have to change my brake pads like once a month on the rear wheel !! if not more in the riding season. I think i spend at least 100 bucks a year on brake pads across my bikes. even when i buy the big bulk bags of the pads

Would it be possible to divert the regen to a second battery? Making it a battery charger almost.

Just like a hydro turbine, motor will regenerate battery power. nominal power can be boosted but will overheat any motor. I'm not 100% sure about the g62 but i wouldn't go over 85°celsius that would be my stop motor temperature, 75°c for power limitation temp, 55°c back to nominal...

these bafang hubs are weird. It is very easy to overheat and damage my g60 hub that is 750w. But with this 1000w g62 hub I have ran it very hard, it has got very hot, and I never had any problems. I have ran it full throttle in the summer many times. where I am sure it got much much hotter than 120C. At least based on this thermistor reading, some people think my thermistor is wrong But idk. Ill try moving the thermistor next time I have it open to work on it. BUt i am fairly certain based on these readings and the "g062 info thread" from boosted, this motor gets extremely hot, like an oven inside, it is built to just continue building heat up and up.,. Boosted apparently says the windings in his G62 fail when the thermistor reads 150C to 170C. But I dont plan on riding it that hot ever. I think i have probably come close in the past. My other G62 still works fine But it doesnt feel as powerful as this one, like the magnets are worn out in the old motor or something. BUt yeah this thing gets hot. If you limit it to 85C you wont ride it anywhere far. ANd you will be waiting forever for it to cool down.

i just looked at the Grin TEch motor simulator and its 150C overheat temp ,I think that is the winding insulation or the magnets probably

if you had a 3d printer or some crackhead ingenuity you could make some small plastic bits to force air into the motor

its the planetary gear carrier that I welded, It has this inner keyed part that spins one direction and then catches the other direction. So you just weld that part so it cant spin. But I didn't weld it onto the axle, still need to be able to get the planetary gear carrier on and off the axle to replace the gears. But yeah You just weld that clutch in the planetary gear carrier. and then the motor wont freewheel and you can do some regen!! But its weird to weld it, The one part that spins is a hardened metal of some kind, then the other parts are stainless I think, my bro said it was really crazy to weld it. He has never welded something like that. But i think it will work fine, It just needs to stay together.

This is pretty cool. Love the regen features on a geared hub motor. Do you think the G62 could handle 3k watts with a 72v battery?

i've done 3500w or 4000w peak with the g62. But when it hits saturation temps You can overheat it really easy. So need a temp sensor if u want to run it hard without concerns. I ran mine at 90 phase amps and like 3kw for a few years on 72v and never had any problems. Then i tried 105 phase amps and i broke nylon gears

@EBikeBuilder_ 90 phase amps on the g62! Damn these little motors can handle some power. What's the top speed and how does the torque feel with the 90A and at 3kw?

Hi, you're posting great stuff with the Flipsky and the G62, in terms of heat give it a try with ferofluid and that should drastically decrease the temperature of the motor 🛵
@EBikeBuilder_
@EBikeBuilder_ Ай бұрын
thanks my friend I appreciate the kind words!! in these geared hubs, the ferrofluid will just shoot off the magnets unfortunately because the magnets arent around the circumference of the motor like a direct drive hub. The ferrofluid would come out of the rotor and i thinkit would just be in the outer ring of the shell, probably leak out through the motor cover cracks on the non drive side

its more about not having to use physical brake pads and the cost associated with replacing brake pads. and opportunity cost of doing maintenance changing pads and rotors. regen can do like 80% of the stopping
