Baguazhang Jiulong: Applications on Stairwell

Dr. Yancy Orchard demonstrates Juilong Baguazhang applications on a stairwell. The movements used come from the Rolling the Pearl program.
If you look carefully, you will see various stepping patterns used, including the rolling step, dragon stepping, tiger stepping, circling the circle, and water dragon turns. One of the biggest principles demonstrated is Jiulong Baguazhang's continuous stepping; Dr. Orchard never stops moving once the encounter begins. His footwork is free and smooth, moving up and down the stairwell as needed.
Also shown are various methods for neutralizing an attack. The five circles are employed with the arms, but also use of the yao (torso) is demonstrated.
One of the challenges in shooting these spontaneous clips is that of the attackers' real fear of injury. If they attack with too much abandon, they will alomost certainly fall down the stairs; so you can see they hold back a bit in their commitment due to the awkward footing. Using Jiulong Baguazhang's free footwork, Dr. Orchard is able to move as needed according to the flow of the situation.
