The one thing you always need to make sure of is your bait. If you make it yourself then you could already have an edge that other anglers don't. It's the second most important thing to me after location.
This film gives you that edge and more. It details twelve ingredients and seven recipes that will always bring you success. There are plenty of tips too to help you on your way.
There are no secrets in carp fishing, only knowledge and here is a big slice of it.
For more information visit thecarpcatcher....

Hello from the United States! New to boilie making this year. Made three batches on this rainy morning. Two came out perfect. One was a bit too wet and turned out like little pillows. Your video has been the most helpful of all because it gave me the basic proportions. That was fantastic. I didn't need to add more liquid or flour and they rolled great. I wish I had access to many of your ingredients. Shipping costs for carp bait and tackle make it prohibitive. Carp aren't fished for much here. I'm having a ball with them this summer. Anyway, thank you for the most informative biolie video I've watched out of about 100. :) Have a great day.

I've done a ton of research in the last 3 months on making my own bait and I can honestly say I have not come across a single video that packs more information into it than this one. I don't have access to all of the ingredients(I live in Canada) but, with imagination and ingenuity, you can take this info and make any bait you'll need. Thank you...

Excellent advice on dry ingredients, especially the fact semolina causes the mix to expand once rolled , I was totally unaware of that , so instead of 50/50 semolina and soya , I will be reducing the amount of semolina in my mixes as this has caused me no end of problems rolling , so many thanks for the footage and advice 👍 keep up the good work

I too haven't made boilies/hookbaits since the 90's , always relied on good ready made bait then rehydrated with additives before use , and glugged/glazed my hookbaits. To make bait once again and know from start to finish I've put the graft into every aspect of a catching my quarry would be an extra buzz I've over looked through " not got time/cba to make my own " excuses . Bless ya for the video fella , looks like I'm going to dabble in making some bait again ;p . Steve M

Pure gold this tutorial many thanks for sharing, just a thought when you've produced a winning formula why make the other flavours?
@TheCarpCatcher
@TheCarpCatcher 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it took a lot of effort to get it done but was something i had been wanting and needing to do for many years. Even though we can now buy extremely good bait easily it's still something special to make your own bait and it always will give you an edge if you get it right. Winning formulas never last and you should always be looking to stay a step ahead. It's also a very important part in learning about bait, the more you make the better you become. But stick to the simple rules and recipes, if you go complicated and use everything you can think of in a bait you'll be wasting your time and money. And when it doesn't work so well you won't know which ingredient/s are responsible.

Should be soluble but if you want to make them more soluble than you need to use water soluble binders like whey gel instead of eggs. Do it in test batches like the film to get it right. Remember your recipe needs to allow you to roll quantities easily.

Correct me if this seems a stupid question but, how much will a dry mix make once mixed with the eggs and liquid additives. So for example if you were making a 1kg mix how much bait would that make? Hope that doesn't seem too much of a stupid question. Great video by the way!

Great informative video, for anyone new to home made boilies. I used to roll me own baits, way back in the late 1970's, by hand, no rolling tables then. Ingredients were purchased from a company named 'bait 78' and later by Geoff Kemp. Interesting, after watching your video, decades later, than when I used to roll them, that not a lot has changed, apart from say the quality of the ingredients available today and a few additions to the range. I currently purchased ready made baits and having good success. on CC Moore's pacific tuna. The BIG question is, does making your own boilies, catch you more carp, in todays pressured lakes? By purchasing off the shelf, I'm already ahead, having several more hours at the lake, rather than grafting in the kitchen making them myself.
@TheCarpCatcher
@TheCarpCatcher 6 жыл бұрын
I think first of all an understanding of bait is important. Also making your own bit and catching on it is the ultimate achievement. The cost is usually half what it is in the shops, sometimes a lot more. To make 5Kg takes a few hours and like anything you put effort into it makes everything so much more worthwhile. Part of the success i have had is that my baits are very different to most, unique in fact. This means far less fish will have been caught on them and so you will have far more chances. This is proved by the bait revolution in the 1980's where we found that baits would 'blow' after a number of captures on it. Yes the carp were still eating the bait but when it came to one on a rig they were obviously far more cautious. When a change in bait was made you stated to catch again. Back then we also learned that if you could keep what you were using a secret, you would end up catching more than anyone else. These facts are still applicable today. Many of the problems associated with the above have been overcome with the rig revolution, a cautious carp can be caught more easily now but then everyone is using these rigs too... It's easy to buy off the shelf and there is nothing wrong with that, there are many good reasons for it, but if i was to buy off the shelf it wouldn't be from a major manufacturer i would be looking for something more unique. If your fishing the same as everyone else (and this includes using the same or similar baits) you will end up catching the same as everyone else.

This has been so helpful, new to making my own baits so your video has answered so many questions for me! What are your views on the pre-bought mixes for well known brands (like cell for example). I know it's more expensive but a lot of fishing is down to confidence and I "KNOW" that cell works cos I got my P.B. on it lol... just curious to your thoughts
@TheCarpCatcher

Whats the point in using an expensive basemix and rolling your own? you might as well buy them ready rolled for the few extra ££ Making your own mix and fishing with it is far cheaper and just as effective once you have a sound recipe (Which you have in these films) and is entirely why you do it. Try the Pre-digested/Salmon oil mix, it's as good if not better than the cell.

Hi Steve. When we make the measurements you gave for 100 grams for 1 kg of product, we have to multiply the values by 10, is this true? How many minutes is the boiling time after preparing the dough? Can you specify them? boiling time is very important. Also the best boili making video I've ever watched. Thank you very much. You are great..
@TheCarpCatcher

Yes x by 10, boil till they float or if you want a tougher bait add n seconds to this.

@@TheCarpCatcher You mentioned "1 ml of flavour" in your recipes. What flavor is this exactly? I ordered "Norwegian Salmon Oil" and it arrived. I'm wondering one more thing. Would it make sense to use "vanilla powder" or use "baking powder" in recipes? Also I live in Turkey and "CCMoore CLO" and "Vitamealo" and "LT94 fishmeal" are very hard to find. It will be a little difficult to obtain. Is there a place where I can find it in romania or bulgaria or turkey?
@TheCarpCatcher

Alcohol or ester based flavors , oils at 5-20 ml/kg dry mix depending on what it is, remember oils can really dry out baits and make them easier to roll or un-rollable. Try ground cat food with high fishmeal content, CLO is biscuit meal and cod liver oil basically, vitamelo is baby milk.... look for alternatives in health foods and pet foods and baby foods. Have fun!

Hi mate, I’ve just got into bait making and found this video so informative and I was wondering if you can give me some advice on the nozzles for my gun? I had my first attempt yesterday using a compression gun and I couldn’t get my balls to be round, they were all dumbbells/egg shaped....what width do you have your nozzles cut at for 16mm and 18mm tables? Do you know where I’m going wrong? Thanks mate Adam
@TheCarpCatcher

use a very sharp blade to finely cut the nozzle down until it's right.. thats the way you do it.

Very informative. I've only recently tried making home made Boilies so this is a great help. One thing I have found is that after the boiling process the water is coloured and the Boilies are coated. I would assume that this colour is being boiled out of the paste. Does the boiling alter the baits effectiveness ie flavour and coating sealing in flavours? If this is the case do you know of any other methods of making, can I say Boilies, if they are not boiled? Hook bait video next.
@TheCarpCatcher
@TheCarpCatcher 6 жыл бұрын
Well it's important to remove your boilies as soon as they float so you don't overcook them. You can denature a mix by boiling to much and yes there are better ways of doing it. Steaming for one will improve things (professional steam overs) but the best way i have found is to individually wrap your boilies in cling film to keep all the goodness in while boiling. I only do this for hookbaits tho (it makes a hell of a difference!) Lastly i would not worry too much about runoff, if you make a decent enough mix and are careful about boiling and drying it then it will still be good enough for what you need.
