Most would say impossible to play. What is does for me is inspire me to practice, practice, practice. I'm sure it's taken years of long days of practice to get this good. Bands like Spawn and Gorod (the masters) have taken extreme music, but rather than sounding like one long random jam, they have evolved and made this form of music into an art form which I can listen to for hours. It's complex but well constructed. Long may tech death reign!

I use Logitech G9X, Roccat Kone and Logitech MX510 on my main computer, with the Steelseries pad and Razer Black Widow. For my livingroom computer I use the Dinovo Edge from Logitech plus their G700 wirelesss, which I also use at work. So, in terms of recommending stuff I can`t really vouch for anything since it`s all a matter of taste and what kinda games you play, so I`d say check reviews of said mice and keyboard and see if it`s a fit.

@rasmusquavangsfar94479 жыл бұрын
Weird considering how fucking difficult your stuff is. Do you make a living of playing death metal?
@ErlendCaspersen9 жыл бұрын
It's implicit that everyone do their homework, as with any band in this genre, before one sets out doing any sort of shows. Nope. Never received royalties of any kind and I've gotten maybe half a regular paycheck accumulated for all my years of touring. No one except the biggest names(CC, Behemoth, Dimmu etc.) in the genre can make a living playing this sort of music.
@rasmusquavangsfar94479 жыл бұрын
***** Fair. But it seems like an easy hobby, just practice and then go out and tour a bit. Is it an easy hobby to have?
@ErlendCaspersen9 жыл бұрын
+Butcher6evil III If you enjoy hobbies that takes half a life time to master, will haemorrhage you money with nothing in return, and go on van-tours in Canadian mountains where you slip off the road and almost die every other day, then by all means go for it.

have any tips for an intermediate bass player ?
@ErlendCaspersen8 жыл бұрын
That's an extremely general and open question with no obvious answer without more info. I'm by no means an educator, but what do you need?
@mertkaradeniz30328 жыл бұрын
i really enjoy listening to tech/prog death metal bass and i really want to be able to play what a listen and enjoy, so what i ask is like how many hours of practice do you recommend daily or which/what kinds of scales should i practice, thank you for your time btw
@ErlendCaspersen8 жыл бұрын
I have never had a consistent practice regime, and it could range from six hours a day to not touching my bass for months. Furthermore I only took music lessons in high school which is close to 20 years ago, and I haven't maintained or worked on theory since. I'd rather say work on stuff when you set yourself goals, instead of just noodling around for hours without an aim as a general pinpointer for how much you should practice a day. This is key if you actually want to get something out of your work, and not just waste your time every day. For what I play theory isn't something that comes into play much at all, so I'll copy\paste myself from a previous answer to shed more light on the thought process of how to go about this kind of music: "You can break this logic into two very basic forms : If the guitars play the same melody/riff, or at different intervals - I will try and make a third voice that switches between what both guitars play and add some counterpoint or chromaticism to make it slightly more like an actual bass line. The trick is to find a middle ground where it's not played too high, and depending on the speed not too low, otherwise it will get too muddy. So, focus on finding a register that's comfortable, or at least playable. I notice some players tend to solely focus on the lower register. Just because you play bass doesn't mean you need to make yourself totally inaudible. The second thing is that this type of metal is basically akin to free jazz. You can do whatever you'd like tonally and no one will bat an eye, which is what I'm getting at in the previous reply. I use any free space, wether it be a hanging chord or just a change from straight 16ths, to strum chords or just add some odd tonality. The point being you're able to drastically change the sound-landscape with simple touches like this, especially if you add a fretless to the mix for key parts. Strumming or popping chords on cymbal chokes or pinch harmonics is a very effective way to accentuate rhythmic figures and make your instrument stand out. I'm not worried about any theory in this context, and plainly think atmosphere and how the overall expression of the song changes with what I add. You have five fingers on your right hand(I hope), so learn to use them all and learn how the different types of attack make it sound, ranging from where you are on the fretboard to where you pick the note between the bridge and the neck. The more I can get away from the basic role of a bass player, the better, as I think the world has enough players who purely stick "to the books" and don't step out of that context. This is a very rough template on how I generally go about a song, as there are too many factors that comes in to play to make a definitive how to-guide on the subject."
