Today's video covers baker's cyst treatment strategies including four rehab exercises that can help reduce pain, improve knee mobility and strength. A baker's or popliteal cyst is a fluid-filled swelling located behind the knee that can cause pain and limit one's ability to move their knee through its full range of motion. Baker's cysts are usually due to a problem within the knee joint, such as arthritis or a cartilage injury. When the underlying issue it treated, the baker's cyst will usually go away and won't come back. My book includes comprehensive rehab programs for the entire body including a chapter dedicated to the most common knee conditions (arthritis, meniscus and ligament tears, IT band syndrome, patellofemoral pain syndrome and patellar tendonitis). Thank you so much for the great and fun exercise. It's an excellent introduction. Exercises using a ball may not be easy to do if our core muscles are not strong enough. Dr.Tom takes care of your health very well. I like today's scene too.

I hope the exercises help you! Most baker's cysts are the result of an underlying joint condition, such as arthritis or a cartilage injury. If you are having trouble getting rid of yours, you may want to see an orthopedic doctor to see if something is going on in the joint.

Interesting..I've never heard of a Baker's cyst in my life. You didn't play your intro music 🎶 this time! At 3:20 you said you can hold that position for 60 minutes, but i guess you meant 60 seconds. That is always the first stretch I do because it feels good. Thanks for the info Tom! ❤😊

It’s not a super common condition, but is one people ask me about every so often. Yes, I saw that error after I had finished recording the video. 60 seconds, not 60 minutes. 😆 I am thinking of getting rid of the into video. Not sure it adds any value and maybe people would rather it not be there.

@@RehabScience Well, I like the intro. I always watch what you're doing in it. I guess I'm so used to it, I noticed right away you didn't play it! Have you ever heard the intro song on Bob and Brad's PT channel? So funny!!!

Thank you for the information. What can be done to replace the ball exercise for lack of having a ball?

You can also do hamstring bridges on a chair. You won’t be able to create the movement with a chair, but you can do bridges on the chair, which will help strengthen the hamstring muscles.

Hi! I just had my baker's cyst aspirated. I did very intense style of yoga, religiously for 10 years and then transitioned to weight lifting over the past 5 years. I have maintained a good amount of mobility thanks to yoga and have no knee pain, but have had knee stiffness after sitting too long or doing leg day at the gym. My knee also started locking out last summer. Long story short, I discovered that I had a baker's cyst a few months ago. The underlying issue has not been identified, but because I can essentially run, lift weights, do the splits, it makes it identifying the issue more complicated. After finally having it aspirated this week, I have combed the internet - as a very active person with a wide range of motion, what is the rehab program for me? Thank you!

What is recommended treatment for Baker,s cyst. In what case should you operate please help.
@RehabScience3 ай бұрын
Surgery can be an option, but is not used frequently. In most cases, the cyst can be drained or the person can receive a cortisone injection to help reduce inflammation and pain. In many cases, the cyst is due to an underlying knee joint problem (arthritis, cartilage injury, etc), so once that is fixed, the cyst usually won’t come back.
