No that wasnt it. He was even acknowledged that he died before the 3rd stage the chunin exam. It was just a very forgettable death since he was only mentioned once or twice after they found him dead. And we didnt really know his name or his jutsu until he fought with Baki. At least shippuden gave a sort of closure to his story

The camp he attacked was being guarded by his lover in the Anbu which she and Sakura pursuit him afterwards (I think we saw her for a brief time after this episode and when Orochimaru attacked). There was a very nice sad love story monologue between the 2 before she stopped him. We got to know abit more between the 2 since they were only mentioned and showed for a very brief time in Naruto Part 1

I swear, every Naruto video has some moron finding some sort of half ass excuse to nitpick about the show. Shouting for help while running away? Please tell me you’re joking. This dudes a chunin facing off against a high ranking jonin. The only thing he would have to do is just kill him faster before any help could arrive. Even when no helped arrived baki managed to kill Hayate in less than a minute. I don’t think at this hour, any ninja who is sleeping can get up, get dressed and travel across the entire village to the exact location of the conflict in under a minute. So the best hayate can do is run away as best as he could to avoid a fight because it’s obvious that he would lose. And he’s sure as fuck isn’t going to scream when it’ll make it 10x easier to reveal his position when he’s supposed to get away. People like yourself try way too hard to make the series worse than it actually is because of the bandwagon hate and it’s incredibly disingenuous. All of the half baked nitpicks for Naruto and its criticisms on "wRiTiNg" are easily debunked by common sense and also by paying attention to the series. I would also hesitate to say it’s pointless. It gives us an insight to the schemes of the sand village and what they’re capable of and that in turn makes the stakes a lot higher, like you know shits gonna go down sooner or later in this arc.

Baki makes an appearance in the Gaara Hinden novel. In the book he is acknowledged as the sand siblings sensei and not just a jonin assigned on their mission when they are first introduced in the Manga. In the novel Baki decapitated 10 people at once using his blade of wind technique. He is also a senior member on the hidden sand council. It is implied that he helped lead the village during the time between gaara father dying and Gaara formally taking over. It was Baki that sent the sand siblings to help with the sound four. He also was the one who made the call to have Gaara retreat from the arena during the chunin exams, which was a wise decision.

Also the fact that a Kage Bunshin will work we have to take into account that it would be for a limited time and with little chakra, and if the real one is too far away, the plan would probably fail. We watched Naruto so much that we forgot the simple fact of doing a Kage Bunshin (a Jonin level jutsu) and maintaining it is already a difficult thing for advanced ninjas.

Despite Hayate killed in this scene by Baki. This is the only scene in entire Naruto series where we saw Baki in action and invisible wind blade style. Baki and Genma who replaced as proctor in later episode despite being seen in many important occasion never utilised fully and are most underrated. Kishimoto did an injustice to these two characters. Even Kimmimaro and eternal gramps genin got the chance to show their special jutsu.

I know it's 2 years too late, but it answer is "because the Hidden Leaf is ran by the *objectively worst* Hokage til Naruto. Seriously, that dude did all the things you mentioned plus: -let the Uchiha situation escalate to the point of genocide -let a subversive group like Root exist outside of the control of the village ruling council -made Orochimaru into through his bad training and sabotaging the career of the *only* Sannin who could be bothered to stay in the village, in order to promote a puppet ruler instead(seriously, that's all Naruto's dad *really* was as a leader) Other mistakes exist, like letting Naruto get needlessly victimized as a child of course and making him live like a hermit... Similar with Sasuke. Literally treating the last Uchiha and the nuclear option be isolated like that... It's honestly baffling that Naruto didn't grow up like Gaara and literally no surprise that Sasuke betrayed the village like he did.
