I really love Monoma's explanation on "blank" Quirks. Basically, he can copy the engine, not the gas. Another thing I like is that it's not just Deku's that works that way. Horikoshi made both Eri and Fat Gum's Quirks as examples, so it wouldn't feel like the only power Monoma couldn't copy is the most powerful one the protagonist has.

I'd be REALLY interested in learning if Monoma could focus in on the component quirks of One for All. Like if he trained enough, could he copy just Black Whip? His Copy Quirk is EXTREMELY interesting, not to mention useful.

As a dad myself, and as a child of someone like endeavor i understand Montanas frustrations. For me becoming a dad, like for shoto becoming a hero, it changes some perspective on things. Although nothing has been subtracted, ive learned to add to my understanding of my father. In the end, the goal is to be better, not beat them at their own game. If shoto maintains his hate for his father forever, what will that do to all his relationships? Not all of us have a Midoriya

I would say this about Endeavor's frustration: people feel what they feel whether it's justified or not, but he's at least keeping his distance. It's a far cry from him waiting in this hallway for his son during the sports festival or screaming at him during the provisional training.

14:08 I completely understand her point here, but I think something to consider is that Endeavor is not displaying this frustration to Shoto. It is only natural to feel frustrated when something isn't going your way, even if you don't necessarily have the right to do so. Endeavor is not making it his son's problem, he's not lashing out for being ignored, nor is he trying to guilt trip him. It is slightly unfair to blame him for thoughts that he keeps to himself and thoughts anybody would have in this situation. Moreover, this is a part of a natural progression. Endeavor was an absolutely horrible person, and while he is trying to better, it won't happen overnight. Keep in mind, that throughout this journey Endeavor's self of entitlement has progressively diminished as it has gone on. Instead of not understanding why Shoto wouldn't want to work with him and expecting him to, he now expresses gratitude for even being able to have Shoto's number and even more so that he would be willing to train with him. He doesn't want to train Shoto to be better than All Might, he wants to train Shoto to ensure his future and atone for his mistakes in the past. Basically, Endeavor does have a right to be frustrated toward his journey not going as well as he wished it to, as human beings are all entitled to their own feelings. Endeavor does no have a right to guilt his son or convey an expectation that his son train with him, but he also has not done that since turning over a new leaf.
@natsuotodoroki
@natsuotodoroki 3 ай бұрын
Well, to be fair, he’s still doing it. Even after turning over a new leaf, he’s still going to”Shotooo, I have so much to teach youuu.” It’s not as harsh as he used to be, but he’s still conveying the expectation of Shoto to work with him.
@EliteRed36
@EliteRed36 3 ай бұрын
@@natsuotodoroki I think his repeated messaging is less about the expectation that Shoto works with him and more of his eagerness to show that he has changed and his motivations have as well. The point isn't whether or not his actions are correct, as very clearly he is still misguided and learning (which is just a realistic depiction of somebody who used to be horrible trying to be better), but whether or not he is valid in his feelings of frustration. Shoto is entitled to his feelings as well, and is 100% in the right to do as he wants (as he is the victim of Endeavor's abuse), but saying that Endeavor is not justified in internalized frustration doesn't do the situation justice (as long as he isn't lashing out or showing off the frustration to or towards Shoto) and I think kinda ignores HIS very human experience of trying to better and it not going the way he wanted to.
@natsuotodoroki
@natsuotodoroki 3 ай бұрын
@@EliteRed36 Oh, Endeavor is definitely realistic. I just wouldn’t say that his frustration is “justified.” Like, I understand why he feels this way, and it’s definitely from a place of relatively good intentions, but misguided or not, I think it’s justified to call him out on these things regardless of realism or intent. I am admittedly coming at this from a similar angle, where I want him to do right by his promise to atone, but I’m definitely not going to cut him slack when he’s still ultimately not handling things as well as he could. Brownie points for trying I guess, but that’s it for me. I get that you’re coming at this from a different angle though.
@Senkoau

The problem with that is if you don't acknowledge the growth the you discourage the person trying. I speak from the perspective of a child rather than an adult (ad it were). Where my parents were convinced I had a lot of potential so they kept critiquing what I did wrong on my school work and making me redo it till it was acceptable. Instead it left me feeling I'd never be good enough, never produce anything acceptable on my own and it took me a long time to get over that enough to even start trying again. Even today as a grown adult my first thought if someone wants to talk to me about my work is what did I mess up not that they may want to clarify something or compliment me on good work. Yes Endeavour's an adult but he's still trying to change his entire personality and if you don't acknowledge that it can discourage the person and make them stop trying especially as those first steps are often the hardest. You don't need to admire him or like just aknowledge he is making progress.
@natsuotodoroki
@natsuotodoroki 3 ай бұрын
@@Senkoau While you’re right, I do think it’s really generous to be applying this logic to Endeavor, since he acted exactly like the kinda of parents that you’re describing. If Endeavor feels discouraged by his kids not acknowledging what he’s doing, honestly, that’s his problem. I guess it’s a kinda unsympathetic thing to say, but I can’t really say that matters to me overall when the crux of this whole situation is someone wanting to atone for acting horrible in their past.

The thing about Endeavor, I think its normal for him to be frustrated because back to the conversation you have had in the past, I never saw this as a parent moment but as a hero teacher moment, its important that he relay this skill to shoto as a hero with someone who has the same quirk. If Shoto aim is to become a great hero he should not be letting this opportunity pass for his own dreams sake. Even Shoto's approach I take more as in teach me how to do the hero move for my growth not come and parent me. Always seperate the fact that despite everything Endeavor is a great hero.

I mean I still wouldn't say he's "good" even NOW (where the anime is currently at). You can say that he's progressed, yeah, but he did irredeemably awful things to his children and wife that had consequences for every single member of his family AND the others. To borrow an old ATLA meme, the "Not As Big Of a Jerk As You Could Have Been" award? I guess. I don't know what he can do to actually redeem himself like Zuko because his misdeeds are SO MUCH WORSE.

Trying to judge people as "good" or "bad" is a fool's errand in the first place. Human beings aren't a product to be reviewed, philosophy is subjective and endlessly debatable, and at the end of the day all most people really care about is whether someone is "good" for them. I think redemption suffers from the same issues. You can redeem actions, for example if you fail and then get a second chance where you succeed, that's redemption. But in the context of moral character, it again goes into this uncomfortable gray area where ego is what really decides to for each person the value of that redemption. I believe this is why Endeavors Ark is not about redemption, but rather atonement. There are no prerequisites or end goals to atonement. It's just the action of day after day toiling to do better and make amends.

Theoretically given that the effects of the quirks Monoma copies can still remain even if he is no longer using the copied quirk if Monoma copied OFA again and passed it on to someone before his time limit ran out he could effectively start a 2nd OFA….this would be bad however…

Alright we have some OFA investigating. There’s as usual WAY more information than you would assume when you REALLY look at all the little seams. So now we arrive at their little meeting talking about the vestige encounter. Bakugo asks if All-Might knew about the dark energy and the holder Deku saw. Nope. Ok. That’s a very good thing. So long as All-Might doesn’t leave a GAPING GAP in denying knowledge we’ll be fine. “I never heard of this holder or the quirk. And my master didn’t know anything about the sleeping quirks in OFA either.” …..All-Might. You just left a GIGANTIC GAP. What we just got essentially was that this holder must’ve still been a shadow vestige for All-Might. Which confirms that the shadow vestiges are not the same holder to holder. Or at the very least All-Might had MORE shadow vestiges than Deku. But he just COMPLETELY LEFT UNANSWERED IF HE HAD ANY PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE OTHER QUIRKS. Nana didn’t know is NOT the same as I didn’t. This is in sub, dub, AND manga. He LEAVES IT WIDE OPEN. Between All-Might’s reaction to the word singularity in Deku’s dream, all his warnings leading up to Blackwhip, All-Might reacting to Deku BEFORE Blackwhip came out, the Blackwhip holder talking about COMPLETION as if that was seen or attempted before. NEVER BROUGHT UP TIL THAT POINT, the 1st telling Deku we are long past the singularity, and how calm All-Might has been about EVERYTHING in this…All-Might VERY LIKELY awakened other quirks. But we CAN rule out him awakening Blackwhip. THAT IS THE ONLY THING YOU CAN RULE OUT FOR A FACT. I have to officially start setting up accusations for All-Might at this point. I recently did some digging and found all the way back in season 2 episode 15, All-Might and Tsukauchi were talking about what made up Nomus. And introduction of new DNA doesn’t mean a new power is introduced to the body. Not all quirks work like OFA do. And that’s how they realize AFO is involved with the Nomu. This reveals WAY more than you think it does and it’s SUPER relevant right now. That means that BOTH Tsukauchi and All-Might know OFA WITHOUT AFO’s contribution can add a new power by introducing new dna to the stockpile quirk. All-Might said in season 1 that passing his quirk is but ONE of his secret abilities and considering he was talking about transfer quirks and the sacred torch that grows between holders (so stockpile) that can EASILY be filled in with OTHER quirks. HE HAS TO HAVE KNOWN. No one has talked to the 1st holder vestige BUT Deku according to All-Might and yet ALL OF THEM can use his transfer quirk. So the chances that Tsukauchi and All-Might found out about this through blood tests and genetic studies of quirk genes is IMMENSELY high. What they likely found was whatever quirks that belonged to non shadow vestiges for All-Might were within the stockpile quirk. And we know that can be honed in on by tech in this world because Dave Shields from the 1st movie can read All-Might’s exact power outputs of his stockpile and has been since BEFORE his drop to 1/60th of his power. I guarantee that can be done to other extents based on little scenes like that. The vestige encounter for All-Might taught him how to use OFA by his own admission in season 5 episode 3, but that doesn’t in anyway mean he found out about the extra quirks this way. (So he likely only got the true intricacies of stockpile use. Which explains his making tornadoes and such with ease) We only know of TWO vestige encounters for All-Might. One at the beginning and one at the end. We can only put together little tidbits from the 1st, and it HAD to be an encounter with Nana’s vestige at the end as he battled AFO. A quirk getting awakened might not guarantee a vestige encounter and Deku might be getting more access to vestiges as a facet of HIS hold on OFA while there only ever seems to be one or two encounters in a holders era. We’re at 3 now for Deku and each one is getting more directed and personal than the last. Hence why they are talking about what’s happening in the outside world for such connection to occur. But the OFA growing seems to be more connected to the vestige encounters than the stockpile energy. What I walk away from this secret meeting is All-Might rather than NOT knowing of the quirks, DID know and EXPECTED them sooner or later for him reacting BEFORE Blackwhip came out. But did NOT expect vestige relevance, and did NOT expect Blackwhip. He likely knew a vestige encounter HAD to happen from the wild awakening of Blackwhip and Deku calmly using it with a completely different tone of urgency right afterward. He immediately moves on to privately train Deku how to handle JUST stockpile WITHOUT an extra quirk intruding on his use before trying to practice WITH it so he can easily move to deactivate it when needed. That is WAY too fast of a focus point on the SAME DAY as what many think is a “completely new” factor of OFA. And considering how Bakugo compared OFA and AFO, All-Might talks about how he doesn’t like to think about it. Which we’ve known since All-Might’s prison meeting with AFO. Now even with the manga coming to a close they never acknowledge this in full, but there are just too many points that lead me to believe All-Might did have more than the basic stockpile and transfer. We don’t know how many or exactly how much is known. But keep a VERY close eye on what information All-Might provides Deku. What does he know, and what does he or doesn’t he tell Deku. All-Might doesn’t want Deku to explore the vestiges in season 2, and didn’t seem to be 100% sure if he was going to be present in Deku’s 1st vestige encounter against Shinso when talking to Recovery Girl. He seems to be taking on the vestige investigation for himself while focusing Deku on PURELY when quirk or when not to quirk. Even though the vestiges THEMSELVES have a very different plan from All-Might himself. Which may be part of why previous holders ARE reaching out to Deku…and All-Might is NOT. Like all of Deku’s rapid commands of Blackwhip while trying to communicate with others to stay clear, Deku inadvertently suppressed the Blackwhip quirk just the same when they train with Bakugo. He said he didn’t want to use it at this time and control level. So currently that’s the most likely command in play. OFA is very good at recognizing mental commands and Blackwhip seems a LOT more literal for the new language Deku has to learn with it. I think that covers my OFA speculations. Always be careful what you see in the fine print in these. It sometimes COMPLETELY diverges from what Deku interprets and that seems to be on purpose with so many half truths, incomplete info, lies and false flags. OFA is MEANT to be this giant mystery full of codes and diverging points. It’s WHY All-Might and Deku are confused by their own power and it befuddles them both on the regular.

When he was waiting in the hallway for Shoto and "I will lead you down the path of the mighty!" And after the Nomu fight when he's back home with his family, "You're free to speak your mind Natsu" and when he was incessantly texting Shoto "Let me teach you this to prove I can be a good father!" It's a huge LAUGH because there's no going back with what he did! It's like having an awful fight with your SO, only for thr next day to be lovey dovey imo. Endeavor has to realize that him changing has to be done in small steps, cuz it's not about doing it fast. It's doing it right by everyone he's hurt.

at 11:37 todoroki points out that he didnt know deku had multiple quirks like him. and obviously it seems as if that applies to the rest of the class. but technically bakugou has two quirks aswell. his father has a quirk called acid sweat which just comes out as normal sweat but if he rubs his hands together while sweaty he can create explosions. while his mother secretes a nitroglycerin sweat. bakugou has nitroglycerin sweat but he also has the explosions. Nitroglycerin is explosive when shocked and heated, so while he doesnt have his fathers acidic sweat to create explosions the way his father would, he has the explosions derived from that quirk which are only possible cause of his mothers nitroglycerin sweat. so if his mother didnt have the nitroglycerin sweat he wouldnt be able to create explosions . so he has both the explosive factor from his fathers quirk and the nitroglycerin sweat that enables it!

Well we made it through a very fun yet flawed training arc. The standards are VERY high though at this juncture. I’m free to talk about the story again! Vlad King: We still have much to analyze from these fights! Me: I THINK I’M GOOD. Those 41 character profiles were fun to expand on but MAN were they a lot to keep track of. Class A has proven itself to be stronger than Class B! Overall they are completely dead even…while Class A has 5 main characters with the buffs to stand with full pros. And Shinso DOES get a passing grade to be accepted into the hero course. And since no one brought it up, he’d likely be getting a 21st seat rather than replacing anyone like he threatened in season 2. I did enjoy watching Aizawa set Shinso straight on self blame for how he criticized his own competitive nature…in a competition. There’s always the aftermath and there will ALWAYS be someone to screw it up for Deku. While SHINSO gets set straight for his own being hard on himself from Aizawa, but you sure don’t hear Aizawa speaking up when Deku said how unhelpful he was trying to learn a brand new power out of control on the fly while still pinning almost the entirety of Class B’s attention. Deku was a HIGH class performance with what he had to roll with. At least he had Uraraka there to stop the competition for what she could…while everyone else outside the teachers literally tried to ignore what had just happened. Both of these two were on the hook for things you didn’t need to blame them for. Uraraka wanted to protect Deku and Mina taunts her for her crush as if that was the reason. So we can throw that on the pile of her crushing on Deku WHILE THERE, not being the point of what she’s doing in scenes she’s thinking about him and trying to help him that more add to her character than her budding romanticism with Deku. (Which has remained pretty consistent at “they both have a crush on each other.” Since season 1 for Deku, and since Season 3 for Uraraka.) Ok I’m not immediately almost moved to tears just watching this girl write. Her happiness means everything to the entire fandom. Bakugo and Deku are training! And All-Might wants to prioritize Deku training WITHOUT Blackwhip and making sure his high performance of OFA is unhindered by its presence…even with Deku saying he doesn’t sense it at all. I’m going to leave the meeting and more scenes alone for OFA investigation separate but suffice to say BOY is there a lot. We’ll just move onto All-Might’s most important lesson. “Don’t try to murder your classmate.” He says it straight faced, no sarcasm and he even has to yell at Bakugo to stop trying to trigger Deku. (But Bakugo and Deku are BESTIES. We can totally trust him!) The moment Deku starts speculating about his thoughts regarding Blackwhip Bakugo is out. It’s too much regular Deku and not OFA training now. Oy vey. You can REALLY tell when Bakugo is communicating with Deku personally and when he’s trying to talk about OFA with Deku/All-Might. (Mainly All-Might) STILL refuses to acknowledge how Deku likes to think. You know. A fundamental part of how Deku personally communicates with others and himself to interpret things. Gotta insult it. Ah well. At least Deku left the conversation unharmed. We’ll take that as good news. We have a little party with Class B over stew! This is RICH with great split second character interactions. THIS is MHA interactions I’ve missed since the start of season 5. MUCH more active here. Kirishima and Tetsu are freaking drinking buddies now. TELL ME OTHERWISE. You can copy paste how they talk to each other and interact into a bar drinking together and that would be the PERFECT environment for each other. And no one would bat an eye at it. That is HILARIOUS while it shows how much these two have gone from copy cat rivals against each other to this is amazing. Iida priority one is dash over to tell Deku what’s happening. (The stop mid dash killed me.) Komori is hanging out with Tokoyami after the Darth Vader mushroom incident. (Kuroiro disapproves in the corner.) Hagakure and Tsu are with Uraraka. Uraraka is blushing so they likely brought up her hugging Deku. Momo and Jiro likely have the same friendship as Kendo and Kodai and are all hanging out. Mina and Mineta…are watching what I ASSUME is sexual harassment training videos. MORE WAR CRIMES PUT ON MINETA. (XD just get the kid medication and a professional to talk to him! 1st Tsu literally waterboarding him now this! There’s Shinso, why not have HIM do humane brainwashing!) Kaminari and Shishida are hanging out after their big match. And Ojiro, Tsuburaba, and Koda are all together as the ones taken out quickly in their matches. Todoroki and Deku talk about their big fight in season 2, and Deku has to clear the air that no he really wasn’t holding back against him. (Deku face planted through 3 10 foot layers of concrete and bounced back 20 stories in less than a second with more than 2 dozen broken bones and almost killed you in that last move and you’re asking if he was holding back?!) Bakugo is right to call out its smart to apply what’s new today to their fight, but dumb to A, not recognize a COMPLETELY different quirk as someone with 2 quirks, and B, think he was holding back in THAT fight. XD does he not remember the body matter that COVERED the ring? Well he does approach Endeavor about training Flashfire so progress is being made. And Endeavor joyfully…texts while slowly muffling a villain’s breathing. XD don’t text and drive kids. Shinso’s transfer to the hero course is official! And Aizawa and Present Mic get to actually talk privately about him. Present Mic name drops someone named Shirakumo and Aizawa DOES NOT want to talk. Monoma is not allowed to visit Eri without Mirio AND Deku present to keep her nerves calm. That is HILARIOUS. And Eri even has stranger danger mode activated for Monoma until given permission by Mirio and Aizawa to help her with rewind. Monoma finally gets to talk about a new limitation for his copying after learning EVERYTHING IN HIS QUIRK was boosted from time limit to quirk stock. He couldn’t bypass something called a “blank.” Which is revealed to be stockpile quirks. Without the energy within the quirk it’s useless and 5-10 minutes will NEVER be enough time to charge anything meaningful for those types of quirks. (This is where I got the missile feat for Fat Gum when I analyzed the Rappa fight. I know it’s for laughs but the feat is supposed to be genuine) Monoma can’t help with Eri’s training as a result. While I wish he COULD having one of the biggest instigators in the school (even if he doesn’t like being that way) is probably not good for Eri to be around actively. So they keep her active caretakers limited to Mirio, Aizawa, and Deku. And they IMMEDIATELY prove why THAT is a good thing. Deku in the face of AFO similarities tells her exactly what she needs to hear at the same time as telling himself to keep both of them positive and her smiling. MORE you blink you miss character interactions, we’re eating well today. Kirishima wants to train in the snow like Tetsu did in the oven. Mineta loves the snow. (He probably ROCKS at snowball fights) Tsu goes into hibernation with Uraraka, Hagakure, and Jiro going to warm her up. Iida lecturing about slipping on the ice. (10/10 arm chops as always) Kaminari wants to see the weather girl. Sero…wants to borrow manga from Todoroki. (Are they quietly friends? Sero always pops up when I’m not ready for him. He’s a good guy) And we get Inasa and Camie! No super bows today or genuine Bakugo laughs but I’ll take seeing them getting positive interactions with Gang Orca who’s barely trying to be a drill sergeant at this point with them. Hagakure quells doubts on Bakugo passing the provisional test and doesn’t even bother doubting Todoroki. Sero and Mineta taunt Kaminari on him feeling like he’s never beaten Bakugo in anything BUT the provisional test. We get a name drop of Detnerat entering hero support on the tv. All in about a minute. LOVE these scenes with a million and one things to spot in it. And of course there’s Bakugo and Todoroki 1st getting to act with provisional licenses. This is an OUTSTANDING scene. The carbonation villain fight is NOTHING but MHA silly goodness. All-Might protecting the crowd while quirkless with Bakugo protecting him, the Carbonation villain acting like this day is his whole life while it’s Tuesday for everyone else, Todoroki officially naming the move he used against Deku in their sports festival fight, there’s SO much to see. Also hard to take the villain as seriously as he takes himself when he chose to put the tops of soda cans on the sides of his mask. Bakugo spends most of the fight one handed and is ABSOLUTELY living this whole incident as a chance to use the “save people to win game.” And the moment there’s no one left to fight or save Bakugo is done. And he gets praised by Mr Incredible! (Slide N Go is based on the Pixar superhero no doubt about it.) And the support gear breaks the moment the fight ends. Not when they were going wild, not when Todoroki blasts the villain, ONLY when it’s all over. All-Might is VERY proud.

Regarding bkg's "you're same as him" comment, I don't exactly recall but I think it might be just in the dub that it comes across as so harsh? I think in the sub he might specifically be saying "it's the same as AFO" making it more clear he's comparing the quirks. That's kinda what I remember anyway. Edit: ok I checked and he says "I see, it's (OFA) the same as him". I think it's an important distinction and reminds me why I didn't like what the dub did with this little story line. nonspecific spoilers for s5-6 . . . . . . This is the start of bkg's mistrust of OFA. He is worried about the possible unknown effects it could be having on Deku, and doesn't like how it allows deku to destroy himself in service of OFA's destiny. But he also sees how it's helping Deku come into his own and how it inspired entire generations in the hands of AM, so it's not divorced from the user's will. Deku sees OFA as something to be revered, as a precious gift from AM that he has to try to live up to, something he's a vessel to. Bkg sees it as a tool on Deku's hands, in which the true potential comes from Deku's own heroic spirit that was always there. All of this is implied over many little scenes, and the implications were largely lost in translation with the dub. Pity.

Also, even if they did, I don’t know if they’re going to be able to handle the dub or rather, I doubt their audience will be able to handle it (which you know they’re going to watch it that way as part of their policy if they chose to). Just to be clear, I’ve seen my fair share of Houston, Texas dubs, past & present. While scripts tend to be good but standard and there can be odd casting choices from time-to-time (especially with female characters), I find Houston anime dubs to be generally good. It’s just that I personally find Oshi no Ko to not be one of their stronger dubs. The actors themselves are talented, there are some good performances, namely Jack Stansbury as Aqua & Juliet Simmons as Mem-Cho, but on top of those odd casting choices I mentioned before, the cadence for various other characters feels all over the place, in ways that I expect from an anime dub in the 90s. It’s weird too because the Oshi no Ko dub’s ADR director Shannon Reed also was the ADR director for the Shirobako & Ya Boy Kongming dubs and loved those. He was also an assistant ADR director for the Princess Principal dub which although I haven’t watched the dub version (I did watch the show in Japanese though), I’ve heard nothing but good things about that one. He’s currently the ADR director for the Suicide Squad Isekai dub and feelings on the casting of Harley Quinn aside due to not the performance so much as bias towards other voice actors that voice Harley prior, the dub for that seems solid so far. Hell, I would recommend any of those before the Oshi no Ko dub. I don’t know if it was because the dub for Oshi no Ko started halfway into the Japanese version’s run and Shannon didn’t have as much time to help wring out better performances out of the cast or if it had anything to do with the first episode being 90 minutes long or Shannon himself was spread thin at the time. But there’s other shows with Houston dubs that I recommend they watch first. Princess Tutu, Princess Principal, Land of the Lustrous, Shirobako, Shenmue the Animation, Parasyte, Ya Boy Kongming, Dangers in my Heart, all to name a few. Though whether they want to watch any of them due to the content is a whole other matter.

Why does he STILL pronounce "Academia" wrong after the show demonstrates the correct pronunciation several times? It's "Aca-DAY-mia" not "Aca-dee-mia"
