This was a REALLY hard video to make. Easily the most challenging video I've made on the channel so far. I didn't know if I wanted to address it the same way I did Sonic Forces and list off all the negative aspects and how to make it better, or if I just wanted to do a review. But ultimately I settled with a Retrospective/Thoughts video instead. Don't want to add onto the dogpile this game is already getting when I really enjoyed the game. Anyways, hope you guys enjoy it! As someone who got into BWW like... 2 months ago (on the Switch), I gotta say that this video was a breath of fresh air. It was nice to see a review explain how a modern flawed platformer can still have deep messages but still be full of creativity & exploration, as well as dig into the novel & the creative background for the game. Despite the flaws, I am drawn in and charmed by this simplistic game. I hope that it gets a second chance to shine, and perhaps this review will assist. It was very well done & worth all the hard work! You get both my like... and my sub! 😁

I was also charmed. I got the Switch version for cheap (well cheaper) just because aesthetically I'm attracted to the world and characters.

Great video. Personally, i wouldn't change as much as you suggested. Complete overhaul of Balan's Bouts, a faster costume switching with the switching time dialled down to the blink of an eye, removal of "Use this exclusively to activate thing"-costumes and a better accessibility to the wardrobes would be enough to make me content. Even the "repeat" costumes weren't that bad. The only true repeat costume was the Soaring Sheep/Floaty Flower with every other "repeat" being a small tweak to the other costume. My favourite example being with the Pounding-costumes which each costume having an exchange between air time and attack power. For me, this gives a good bit of variety for the player to choose from. Even then, those two examples are the closest to costumes repeating themselves if you ask me. After that the costumes do big trades with their features like the Punching- and Sickle-costumes. Balan made me happy, enough for me to give it an 8.5/10 after 100%ing it myself. The Saturn NiGHTS-like presentation was right up my alley brought that late 90s-early 2000s even closer to me than the gameplay alone. While some may enjoy the platforming more, the combat is also a big part. With every visit to the wardrobe i would have to take a minute to strategize which costumes i need for the challenges ahead and make my picks around the kinds of enemies the stage had the most to be as efficient as possible. Often i would end up switching my strategy to do something completely different to what i did previously.

What a great insight to how Balan Wonderworld affects us as a gaming community and what potential it could have been when done right. But what I would have loved to hear bit more was about how the music in the game was good and inspired by their theme and boss theme fights to the controversy of their songs few songs have copied other franchise and that would be a great topic to tackle if you want to talk more about Balan.

It will be the content that you don't think people will watch that ends up being exactly what people watch. Part of being a creative is being able to chuck paint at the wall and not worrying what anyone thinks. Some of the work I made that I thought was garbage ended up being well received. Forget worrying about the views and perception, do this out of love and passion. I should be giving this advice to myself, but I am just lazy to create more content and Blandrew you have a much better voice for this type of stuff than I do. All you need is to be confident and less pessimistic. Great work on this video anyway.

Unfortunately if we talk about Yuji Naka's case, his specialty trapped in the art as ever-growing and ever-changing multimillion (and in some case, multibillion) dollar industry, it would take Koji Igarashi's Bloodstained level of scales of game production and smoothness to actually have things goes plan if Yuji were considering less AAA-ridden and independent productions The artistic path he took are the type of ventures which requires high investment and years of consistent adaptation of technology and maintaining nuances to one's own art techniques, I can understand his frustration to every strings he got caught into when making things as this Balan project, on top of very unrealistic demands as to make 80 costumes, which is insane and up to the tier of making characters to gamble sell in gacha games, he deserves his retirement from the ridiculous and increasingly demanding games industry, not all companies can reach to the level of Sony Western AAA, Mihoyo, Capcom and other successful ventures and I do wish more consumers can look at Indie scene and retread successes akin to Undertale (for as much as I dislike parts of said game) But even Tobyfox doesn't like the popularity's effect on his name attached to it so who am I kidding, it's video game industry as very cutthroat competitive type of artistic inquiry ment from the ridiculous and increasingly demanding games industry, not all companies can reach to the level of Sony Western AAA, Mihoyo, Capcom and other successful ventures and I do wish more consumers can look at Indie scene and retread successes akin to Undertale (for as much as I dislike parts of said game) But even Tobyfox doesn't like the popularity's effect on his name attached to it so who am I kidding and what I'm talking about for sentences lol, it's video game industry as very cutthroat competitive type of artistic inquiry, the cruelty of consumers' expectation and it's late realisation of products' values can goes too late as Blandrew mentioned along the sort

Great video, love how indepth you in all aspects of the game. Even tho this a game I wasn't interested in still found the video interesting due to the humor and good narration. great video i think the one button thing is what REALLY holds this game back i hate the mentality that kids need super simple to the point of dumb i started thinking of games i played as a kid and how i did. Sa2? i knew how to play that easy. sure there were some levels i had a hard time with (pumpkin hill i remember gave me tons of trouble as a kid) but over all i knew what i was doing easily. super mario sunshine? i knew what i was doing. and while i never beat the game i still played the heck out it i struggled a lot with games as a kid (i couldn't get through the great deku tree from OOT as a kid....mostly cuz i thought the web on the floor had to be set on fire instead of just jumped on) but still loved them so yeah i think if they fix things up they would have a really solid game on their hands. i remember being super excited when i first saw it because it looked a lot like NiGHTS and i loved NiGHTS on the wii but then i saw someone play the demo and i lost that enthusiasm and it made me sad. i hear too many issues with the game to get it but it's nice to see someone explore it deeply

(ok, hater is too harsh, i def had higher expectations from the intro cinematic which was probably the best part for alot of people who wound up not wanting to continue the game after those early levels, which you pointed out were the worst).
