In French Guiana, the highly protected tropical rainforest has stood for millennia; today, however, with ever-increasing population growth, the future is playing out between preservation of the forest and productive use of the Guianese territory.
Faced with demographic pressure, the Guianese must now tame this forest that they have long called the "green hell." Researchers, scientists and Amerindians are all looking to the forest to take stock of its flora and fauna, discover the molecules of the future and transmit the knowledge of the past.

Once there was peace and solitude there in the bush and forest. Then that chainsaw brought destruction and deaths.

My people, Hmong, is becoming the major agricultural contributor to French Guiana and the surrounding areas. The tradition of Hmong is to slash and burn. The greed and disrespect of any laws/rules/ecological concerns should be taken seriously. There are good examples of what WILL happen with the slash and burn type of farming. You only have to go back to Laos and Thailand to see the devastation and pollution. Mark my words, families there will fight over land if it hasn't already started. Those that become wealthy will never...NEVER give back or help the poor. Anything they do will be to gain face or rather not lose face.
