Little tip when you open your bag of chips cut a U shape at the top so you can tie them back up again when you put them back in the freezer save spillage 👍👍

I prefer to buy a 10kg bag Morris piper’s at the local farmers market for £6.00 You can then pre-cut your own chips . You also have a good stock of potato, for other uses. Shepherds pie, and various other dishes. Back to the chips . I cut and precook, ie power boil,for about 10 minutes, then after a short period of rest it’s into vegetable fat, for short periods, until your desired outcome. Some people like really dark coloured chips , so more cooking required. Each to their own. 👍

I bung frozen chips in the oil sometimes come out nice but can't beat real spuds...trick I find is too poach your cut chips In the oil on like lowest setting till turn softish then with fork give em a few stabs don't go mad n break em into mush but just add a few holes here n there then turn the heat up full blast till crispy...thank me later 😂
@SDR-fj7on
@SDR-fj7on Жыл бұрын
@@jshaw4757 😂 that's exactly what I do...put em in low, when softening, damage them (is what I say), and then let the crispy goodness come forth! They definitely need a rough edge here and there to make them pukka.

You will never beat chip shop chips. As oven chips go, I've tried main branded and supermarket branded. I alway go back to McCain's homefries crinkle chips. I cook them in a halogen oven, they are lovely if you don't over cook them. They are the only oven chips I will buy now.

Agreed, chip shop chips for me should really be thick cut, softer and greasier than regular oven chips. Those looked decent for what they are, and I have tried the Harry Ramsden’s before - great in a chip butty with lashings of butter and chip spice, mmmmm!

The ingredients for both are near identical. As there is no artificial food colouring on either I am guessing the dextrose (sugar) is for the colour and at a different level of caramelisation. Maris Piper are the superior spud for chips. S&V:- Definitely salt first which is on the top layer, then malt vinegar which will take up the salt and drain it to the lower layers. Other way around is for the same people who put cold milk on the teabag first. We sadly don't have enough mental hospitals ;) I always S&V my chippie chips at home because the chippies never put enough on and use "non-brewed condiment" which is not malt vinegar at all.

Hello young man, how about seasonings, I personally use Maggi, its a liquid that can season nearly all savoury foods from pies to gravy, curry, soups and stews ? I also use Shwartz season all which is a salt, pepper and mixed herb season all, this has changed a basic cheese on toast or added to a plate of chips up to the next level, both available from Asda, both are game changers (use sparingly at 1st). Best wishes to you all ! Colin.

I would do them at a lower temperature, my airfryer said to reduce temp from what packets say, I am surprised the airfryer instructions on the bag said 200C still. I also like to roll them in oil halfway through cooking, or dripping or other fat. For some reason most manufacturers think people want to cook chips in an oven to be healthier, so most are very low fat -I just want them from the oven for convenience.

Although Aldl, Lidl and Iceland do have some good food on offer, I've found that their frozen chips fail miserably - they're either completely tasteless or every bagful has more than it's fair share of scraps - bits of chips that dry out so much during cooking that they get chucked away. Try dampening all over the the lower tray with a little water. Then spread the tinfoil on top and smooth it out from the centre to the edges before you wrap it around the edges. Hi mate. this is not related to the video but is a joke that you might like as an Army veteran. So a reporter was interviewing 3 servicemen. One soldier, one Royal Marine and one RAF Airman and he asked what they would do if they found a scorpion in their tent. The soldier said he would kill it with his knife and throw it out. The Marine said he would kill it with his knife and eat it. The Airman said he would ring room service and ask why there was a tent in his room. Just for laughs from one Veteran to another.

Morning Gareth another older vlog which I am catching up on. I usually buy McCains chips and have to be crinkly as they seem to taste better than straight cut. Might give the Harry Ramsdens chips a go again thanks to your vlog and try them in my air fryer which I havne't used yet.

I think I like the look of the Iceland chips. Not really into the colour of HR. I love chip shop chips, but they are for a day out at the seaside treat ( I’m old n a bit chubby ) 🤣🤣🤣 Use my Air fryer mostly at home and make my own chips 👍🏼🌻🦘🌻

Agree with you that frozen chips taste of nothing, you should try finishing them in a wok/frying pan and turning them into salt and pepper chips. it just brings them up another level taste wise.

I recommend the frozen, triple cooked beef dripping chips from Aldi. Bit pricey and I know it's lazy but after a 12 hour shift they're absolutely fab done in the air fryer.

Definitely going to give those Harry Ramsden's a go next time I'm in the local Iceland that is actually inside the Range here.... You get a bit of TGI-Friday's at The Range also - love the Wings and things! Try them if you haven't yet...... Ciao.

Maris Piper are my favourites for chip and roasts. I never heard of Harry Ramsden frozen chips but by the looks the Iceland look better for crisp, moist and fluffy. Some potatoes are a bit yellow.

My very first job in my dad's chippie was peeling and chipping the spuds. I was about 12 at the time. Back then only beef dripping was used. First they would be par fried at a lower heat, ready for frying at a high heat. Lovely 👍. But now I use frozen chips from Lidl or Aldi and cooked in the oven. Recently I got an air fryer but haven't used it for chips, so I might give it a go tonight. I judge what chips I use in this way. 1. Thickness. 2. Price. 3. Crispness outside. 4. Fluffy inside. I don't really worry about the colour. I don't buy any HR products as you pay extra for just having the name. 👎.

People have mentioned putting oil in you dont need any oil on frozen chips in the air fryer or on any other frozen food which is greasy when heated

Supermarket spuds are so unreliable at the moment, just went looking and found a specialist potato wholesaler a couple miles away who supply the food trade but also sell sacks to the public. Happy days! 😁

Im having to budget and spent a few quid on asds yellow priced items. I have a few bags of their chips. 88p a bag! Can't go wrong. But my favourite are lidl chips. About £1.39 for 1.5kg bag. Nice and fluffy n crispy in my air frier but I'll def give those Iceland one a try. Look yummy as for asda one, get what u pay for but they are OK by me. Though I have to slap some garlic salt on to give them some taste, and ketchup...lots of ketchup lol

Aldi do a skinf on fries... they are really nice and come out perfect and crispy. Sadly I have a egg allergy and they had a egg based batter on them.... made me quite ill... Who would check the ingredients of chips for egg?

I have every sympathy. A food allergy must be a terrible thing and quite restrictive. The skin on are decent chips mind as is a lot of Aldi's stuff.

Instead of malt vinegar, you should get yourself some non-brewed condiment. That's if you want the exact taste of the vinegar from fish and chip shops, since surprisingly they don't use actual vinegar. Non-brewed condiment is basically a vinegar substitute created with water, acetic acid, flavourings and caramel for colouring, and it tastes a lot different to malt vinegar, and it's the reason people can never quite replicate the fish and chip shop taste at home. You could get some and do a video comparing NBC vs malt vinegar on chips, that would be interesting to see.

I cut a strip all the way across the top of the chip bag and use that strip to tie the bag after taking out the chips I want to cook. Also, I always use a deep fryer. I hate oven chips, haven't tried any in my air fryer yet, (It's got one of those rotary chip whatsits). My dad always had a chip pan half full of pork dripping to fry the chips in and his chips were always absolutely brilliant. These days I cook my chips rice bran oil, not as tasty as pork dripping, but much healthier, (and still a lot tastier than oven chips).
