Walkers developed “sun seed” oil years ago. A mix of sunflower and rapeseed. They championed it on their packaging at the time and for a while because it was lower in saturated fat and made a crisper crisp.

Another great review. For years I was a Walkers' crisp man, but now I go for the Sainsbury's own label crisps except when the Smith's salt 'n shake are on offer. The last time I bought a Sainsbury's six-pack the price was 85p against about £1.85 for the Walkers'. If you like Doritos then watch out for the special offer on the "Dippers" packs. Normally these are £2.50 a bag, but Sainsbury's have them at £1.25 fairly regularly. As far as I can tell they are no different to the regular Doritos, so with a bit of care you can pick up a bargain. Have you done prepared trifles from the chiller cabinet yet?

Salt & vinegar used to be blue and cheese & onion green - but it’s the other way round today! Everything is colour coded - ready salted, red, salt & vinegar green (formerly blue), cheese & onion blue (formerly green), prawn cocktail salmon pink, chicken yellow, smoky bacon reddish-brown … Have you also noticed that the only flavours of crisps that are labelled “Suitable for vegetarians”, other than ready salted, are the meat-flavoured ones?

I remember growing up as a kid Gaz... And always choosing Walkers Crisps... Except when trying other Maize or Corn based snacks... They were usually made by either KP Crisps or Smiths Crisps like... Outer Spacers... Monster Munch... Horror Bags "Bones"... Horror Bags "Fangs"... Horror Bags "Claws"... Horror Bags "Ribs"... Frazzles... Chipsticks... Sky Divers... Disco's... Quavers... Nik Naks... Hula Hoops... etc. Supermarket own brands back in the 70's were awful... Many of these were soggy and tasteless... As well as many of them having green coloured Crisps due to the lack of quality control... They were cheap!... But they definitely weren't cheerful... But over the years though... Almost all of the supermarkets producing own brand Crisps... Upped their game and are now considered by many to be just as good as the big brand named Crisps... And more people will be willing to give them a try... As we're all becoming victims of high inflation and soaring shopping bills... Why pay triple the price for Walkers Crisps... When the Aldi Crisps are just as good... It's probably down to brand loyalty towards Walkers Crisps... But some are starting to see the light now that our budgets are being stretched... Thanks for the review Gaz... All the best... Cheers mate. 🍺

Interesting stuff Gareth. In Australia, there are no such thing as Ready Salted crisps!. ALL crisps have salt, and always have had salt. End of. I gather that in the UK you have crisps where you add your own salt. Is the salt supplied with the crisps? Another strange difference between the UK and AU.

Growing up I used to see Golden Wonder Crisps and Smiths only. They used have just three flavours; plain, plain ones with the sachet of salt and cheese and onions.

Ready salted like wine that goes with any meal. (Sandwiches). I like Mckoys but can’t find them individually have to buy multi but both cheese and onion and salt and vinegar to die for❤️ Stopped buying walkers years ago thought tescos own tasted better.

I'm a big crisp eater also and have shopped around trying to get a deal. I end up returning to walkers every time as I buy a 6 pack of tesco own, or lidl's and end up throwing half away. Golden wonder (home bargains) are a good second place, I buy the chicken flavour, but the Crisps themselves are different. Golden wonder a lighter, more prone to breaking, where as Walkers are tougher (?) Thicker maybe? Could be the way they're fried or tgis secret mix of oils used. Wonder where that mustard fits in?

Could you do a cheese and onion crisp ?
@SalarianUnlimited2 жыл бұрын
We take the Lidl Snaktastic - they used to do the 'white' bag where you could have or have not the blue salt bag added. Cheap as chips! - family friendly in terms of having plenty to go round for the price of the 'big ears' variety at x3 the price - and next week at Lidl in their super weekend selections you can get a big big bag containing 30x25g packets for £2.29 - 60p less than the normal price - which is still a bargain. Get down there - and Gareth you can do the Arnie impression tonight - I'll be there at 8pm!

I have found the Snackrite bags often half full of broken bits so the last mouthfulls necessitate tipping the bag straight down me gob.

Love aldi crisps - their version of Pom bear crisps are nicer than the branded version! Love your channel!
