Ask an Electrician: What is Normal?

Yesterday there was a thunderstorm and at that moment my gfci outlet (which was completely off) and nothing was plugged in popped and shooted out blue sparks. The outlet is located near the kitchen window. Is it safe to leave it that way? I’d appreciate your knowledgeable answer. Thank you!
