@Acidica18 Жыл бұрын
Really? As much as I'm excited for Baldur's Gate 3, it seems like they're making tweaks and breaking rules left right and center. For Example, not needing to Long rest to swap prepared spells for a wizard? Really? Removing standard racial traits and basically just allowing players to pick whatever stats they want? Seriously? Letting human characters have blue/green/purple skin? My gosh, they're trampling underfoot some of the most common-sense portions of the game. "Customization" is only meaningful when the categories still have meaning. Personally, I'd prefer if there was a settings menu where you could toggle all the rule variants between Larian's take and the original DnD ruleset. Even if the game is balanced for the Larian version, I think it's only fair to allow players to restrict their own experience to the default DnD ruleset.

@@Acidica18 The wizard thing I can kinda see, the rest seem spectacularly minor. Especially the racial stats. Just create your character with the standard racial stats and skin color, problem solved.
@doogles610 Жыл бұрын
@@Acidica18 I'm very happy to see how they've managed to implement important mechanics such as reactions, utility spells, and such. The custom racial bonuses option exists in Tasha's (implemented differently), and I have mixed feelings about that for sure, but D&D 5e does officially allow the option to move my half-orc's STR bonus over to INT, for example. Races will still have their other features.. mountain dwarf medium-armored wizard anybody? The skin color option is optional (you have to tick a box to allow all colors not traditional to that race). Crisis averted :-) I'm inclined to agree with you about spell prep rules. I suppose one could argue that a cleric/wizard/druid could prepare spells during a short rest. It seems like a logical compromise. Also, I think long resting should be more costly or have an in-game time component since it's currently easy to abuse the long-rest mechanic. Personally, I prefer not to abuse the long rest feature because I like to roleplay, but that's me. Overall, however, Larian has impressed me with how much they have gotten right. I was much more critical of the earliest versions during EA. Back in the early days of patch 1, the game played like a lesser version of DOS2 with with a bare-bones 5E mod. By Patch 9, I'd say the game really feels like a D&D video game.

Things to consider when choosing which class to run your first campaign (because we all know we all are going to run this game through several campaigns): Companion Characters: Note the classes and strengths of your desired companions, and choose a class that will best compliment those characters Utility: One lock breaker and trap monkey is a necessity, but having an extra for the missed roll on occasion can be a boon. Heals on the other hand, can be handled by one character (cleric), but I find it preferable to have multiple characters with minor healing abilities (pally/druid/bard). Charisma: Might be the most used stat in BG3, with the many dialogues that dictate your course of action. Do not dump, and maybe lean towards a class that needs high charisma. Gear: Do some research into the gear available, and which classes will be most likely to benefit. The last thing to consider from my 1,100+ hours of EA gameplay: Pick what appeals to you, in spite of all other advice. The point is to have fun, so do that. Full release is almost here!! Good luck ya'll, and don't forget: F5=quicksave

They could find a sword and become a hex blade. Warlock and have conflicts between their patron and God. There could be an entire adventuring arc that resolves that. If you are new to DnD and looking to multiclass, maybe try to look for classes to do a "dip" into, like one level into Cleric, which will give SO much to almost any other class, and you can still reach all those high level spells at level 11 in your primary class. Also Fighter has perhaps one of the greatest abilities at level 2; Action Surge. Which will give you the ability to do two actions in one turn per short sleep. Which, if you multiclass with Sorcerer or Wizard, means; yes: 2 fireballs in one turn! If you multiclass into Cleric or Fighter you of course also get proficiency in armor, and if you choose Cleric Nature, Life, Tempest or War you actually also get proficiency in heavy armor, which can be extremely useful for a squishy spellcaster. And of course; just for the fun of it, multiclassing one level into Bard will give you access to a lot of fun with playing instruments for the less combat oriented parts of the game. So yeah for me: Tempest Cleric (with a single level in Bard) + Wizard (with a single level in Life Cleric) and I am not going to decide on the rest until I know how the hireling system works and how much we can change/respec the companions.

1. Frontline * Barbarian, brutal unkillable warrior with high damage. They rage a lot and love using two-handed weapons. * Paladins, holy warrior, the mix between fighters and clerics. Actually they are one of best classes in the game. They do a lot tank, dmg, support, unique passives auras. Their main drawback is ranged combat. They really want to fight in melee or cast clerical spells. * Fighter the easiest class in the game. Really straightforwad, the go in and stab people. You can actually do everything with fighters. They fight in ranged combat and in melee. Can wield any weapon and armor. They are capable of dealing enormous amount of dmg all the time and can be strong tanks. 2. Support classes: * Bard support, social skills, debuffing enemies, lowest dmg in the game. Typical jack of all trades, they do everything but master of nothing. Unique and strong class that casts spells with songs and instrument. Sometimes capable fighters. Unique abilities such as vicious mockery and inspiration. * Cleric a lot of healing, buffing, some decent damage, they have many subclasses. There are the most durable supports in the game, so if you want a healer that fights in melee the class is for you. * Druid very adaptable, playstyle depends on a circle. They are the best class in therms of crowd control, really good healers, access to amazing summons and they have unique feature that allows them to change into an animal. 3. Mages: * Sorcerer I think they are the best choice if you want deal dmg as a spellcaster. Nova dmg, crowd control, some support. Limited amount of spells so choose wisely but they can do a lot with what they have. Metamagic giving this class unique falvour. * Warlocks they have the best dmg dealing cantrip in the game and they can spam it. This class can be compared to a machinegun of some sort. You have really low amount of amunition but when you fire that will hurt. You can summon creatures for free, really customizable class. * Wizards are probably best arcane casters. They do damage, crowd control, provide utility, support. Lots of spells, only class that is intelligence based. Amazing in combat and out of combat. Many subclasses that are tied to magic schools. 4. Striker - sustain dmg dealers * Rangers, most of the time they are archers. They are the mix between fighter and druid. They deal dmg and cast decent nature spells. Can be build around strenght or dexterity. * Monks are the worst class in dnd but they are fun and unique. They have special resource to perform attacks. * Rogues are versatile do a lot of things. They deal a lot of dmg with sneak attack. Best way to play is to give them a bow and dual wield daggers I think. Best class for lockpicking and they are the last in a group who need a rest.

It would also save a lot of time when joining a friend's game. Melee Warlocks were some of my favorite builds in the Neverwinter Nights 2 games. Hopefully they will let you add your Eldritch Blast to your melee weapon in this game like in those, to make the Pact of the Blade more interesting.
@RichHeart89 Жыл бұрын
That kind of Eldritch Invocation doesn't exist in 5e but there is Thirsting Blade which let's you attack twice with your pact weapon and another Invocation at higher levels (which name I forgot) that gives extra necrotic damage to your melee attacks with that pact weapon. Those should probably be in the game
@RichHeart89 Жыл бұрын
So basically you could do like 5 levels of fighter to get action surge and extra attack, 5 levels of warlock to get Thirsting Blade to get another attack and the remaining barbarian to rage and attack 3 times on first turn, then hit 3 times use action surge and hit 3 times again on the next turn. But it's kinda sad that the Hex Blade Warlock isn't an option so pact of the blade IMO requires multiclassing to be awesome on BG3. My first playthrough will be a Draconic Heritage Sorcerer specializing in either cold or lightning damage to take advantage of the unique BG3 mechanic of wet enemies taking double damage from cold or lightning. I like the idea of Shadowheart using create water to set up my sorcerer for a big spike of cold/lightning damage. I'm not sure which of the two to go for though, I have no experience with DnD so I dunno how good the higher tier cold or lightning damage spells are.

@@Soma6372 Yeah I've been researching all the new subclasses ever since we got the full list a few days ago and I noticed that nice synergy. I'm leaning towards 10 levels of blue dragon sorcerer and 2 levels of tempest cleric. With the Mind Flayer theme to the story, I've decided to play as a Githyanki. I'm really into the idea of an Astral Paladin, and I think Oath of Vengeance fits really well with an angry Githyanki. I demand vengeance against the flayers for enslaving my people for generations, and I will adamantly deny my tadpole any semblance of control or power. I'll most likely multiclass into a Great Old One Warlock, seeking to use the power of an eldritch being I stumbled across during my cross-realm crusade in order to shield my mind from the mental abilities the mind flayers employ. I'll most likely play as Dark Urge, and do what I can to try and only give in to my urges in situations that wouldn't break my Oath.

They would have full knowledge of the world as it is and was and be gifted with supernatural abilities to effect fights and events for the better. The class would basically be an offensive liability, but could support the team through divine plot devices. Class spells/abilities: Plot Armor- Cannot wear armor or use simple/martial weapons. Uses Wisdom, Dex and Intelligence mods for AC. Can ignore legal damage once per long rest. Deus ex Machina- summon a friend to save the party in an unwinnable situation or mass resurrect in a party wipe. Flashback- can see events that have taken place in the story that PCs otherwise cannot know. Foreshadow- has partial access to the future and may speak in riddles to help team succeed. Macguffin- carries object that profoundly affects the world. Source of power.

Hitting more isn’t really a good measure of build quality, and monks don’t really do much damage anyway. Movement isn’t really important as long as one guy in the party has Phantom Steed; 100 foot movement, can dash and disengage for you without using your actions. Absorb Elements exists so Evasion isn’t all that special. Deflect Missiles is basically just a lesser Shield spell. Calm Emotions exists so that last point is pretty moot.
