Don't edit your appearance until AFTER you've chosen your sub-class. I edited my Elf but then decided i Wanted to so a Wood Elf and it totally changed me to the default wood elf appearancre. I'd even say, don't edit your appearance until you've done all the left panel options.

That's sub-race, not sub-class. Your class and sub-class shouldn't affect your appearance at all.
@djnorth2020 Жыл бұрын
Changing race or even body type you have to redo the appearance. Regular and stocky female and male, so if you first edit a slim man, then think you want to beef up and choose the bulkier man, you have to do it again.

If you're new to DnD and struggling with point allocation at the start of the game, a few quick tips: Normally aim for even numbers when raising scores (unless you plan to do a split stat boost at level 4, you only gain a bonus to your modifiers for even multiples above 10). Generally most characters will want to have their main stat be highest, obviously. The next stats to care about are Dex (for armor bonus unless heavy armored, for initiative bonus, and for spell saves to avoid damage), Constitution (for general resilience, hp, and concentration on spells), and wisdom (for perception boost and quite a few spell saves). Intelligence is the most common dump stat if not a wizard. Charisma can be really useful for social gaming, so if you want your character to be the front man, consider this as a secondary skill instead.
@LordAnubis85 Жыл бұрын
I would say moreso than having odd stats, don't min-max. It's a very boring way of playing and you'll fail a lots of important skill checks. The odd ability scores can be evened out at level 4 with the first ASI.
@philipfahy9658 Жыл бұрын
@@LordAnubis85 Yes, but this is also the first chance to grab a feat. I did mention, if you plan to level 2 stats rather than 1 or take a feat, then odd numbers are fine.

It is not shown in the race as a trait, but some of them also offer a proficiency. Like with Drow giving you Perception, even if you can't see it while choosing a race. So it is worth checking how skills change when you pick different races.

Wolf at some point you should do a video on the Karmac Dice. It is something I didn't even know existed as default in the game. I think the debate to use it or not is interesting.
@garion046 Жыл бұрын
I would say unless you are using a LOT of summons and making lots of attacks, turn it off. Balancing out rolls like karmic dice does means that if enemies keep failing to hit you due to your high AC, for example, the game will slowly boost them to the point they hit a bit more. This doesn't sound like much but action economy is everything and there are usually more enemies than characters in your party. You might be able to even the odds by having summons or many characters with extra attacks, but I general I think I'd leave it off. Also... the randomness is part of the game. Some of the most epic moments in tabletop dnd come because people rolled a few 20s, or 1s, in quick succession.
@karikasumi888 Жыл бұрын
This is so useful for new players! I've played Dnd before and I was intimidated by all the options and race and ability features. So I'm glad you put this out. 🌻

Something I have found out through full game play, is your Feat selection is based on your original class level. So if you stop leveling before you get your first Feat for that class, you will lose one Feat from your total overall (two instead of three for most classes, Fighters and Rogues being the main exceptions). So plan your multi classing accordingly.

I'm really not a fan of how they handle proficiency overlap. If I want to play a knowledge domain cleric with the sage background, which fits super well thematically, and I want my expertise from knowledge cleric to be in arcana, I straight up lose the arcana proficiency from my background without replacement. Even worse, if I pick rock gnome, which grants me expertise in history, I also lose out on the history proficiency from sage. I get why they don't want to give out wildcard proficiencies for overlap like in dnd 5e; they don't want you to go off theme, but as it is now, it feels like you are being punished for leaning into a theme too heavily.

Wolf i need your enlightenment on some aspect of the character creation. I've founded that some characters have some native" bonus skill points", but i cannot find any information about this anywhere i've searched. To be specific here are some examples - cleric with 10 points on wisdom has 1 point at animal handling, perception and survival no matter the race i choose, instead of having 0 like all the other classes. Another exemple is wizard with 10 points at inteligence has 1 point in Nature instead of 0 like all the other classes, no matter the race you choose. And like these two examples are also another few classes that have some "native bonus skill points". I must say that i have checked and those skill points are not affected by any racial / subracial feats or background skills.

We also had lots of scheduling issues). I'm thinking about playing as a bard, but I'm still not sure on what race I want to start as. Is there a significant difference between spell casting from a known spell, as opposed to casting from a magic scroll? With the availability of so many magic scrolls, at least in EA, my choice of spells for my casters was largely influenced by the varieties sold by vendors. Why choose the "Hold Person" spell, since that spell was so widely & frequently available to be purchased? In accordance with my play-style, I would often, invariably, choose many of my spells based on the rarity of their selection from the various vendors in EA.
@garion046 Жыл бұрын
If you are confident you can always have scrolls on hand for those spells, go for it. The known vs prepared caster difference is from the 5e rules. Those rules doent account for magic items. Though I'd also say they only let prepared casters swap spells once per long rest, not any time out of combat!
