Regarding the thing about dialogue: sometimes, upon succeeding a check, it unlocks a new dialogue option that usually shows up in the first line. While its likely that that option is a "success" you still have to pay attention to what the line does. It usually does SOMETHING but it might not be what you want. I think it's better to think of it as a branching path rather than a "success/fail". There are times where for RP reasons or quest reasons you might not want to make the check or take the class-based option just because its there. There are also times where the dialogues all lead to the same outcome anyway and there's just options for flavor.

Patch 7 has completely borked at least one of my playthroughs - attempts to load any save results in immediate CTD. Luckily I only had about 10 hours in it so far. Another playthrough seems to be fine. I'm nervous as hell to check my other characters with 50+ hours in them.

In the city you usually know who to take with you for any major thing. Wondering around the city you'll get more of little side snippets from Karlach, Shadowheart and Jaheira, since they're locals, less with Wyll for some reason.

"less with Wyll for some reason." ~~~ That, unfortunately, describes Wyll throughout the entire game. For some reason, Larian scrapped large chunks of Wyll's original, Early Access story arc and personality. As such, he received less development time, and it shows.
