The one thing that seems to have gone unnoticed and Larian should be praised for, is the fact they developed completely different UI's for keyboard/mouse and controller use. They did the same for Divinity Original Sin 2 as well. I can't say I've noticed too many developers prepared to do that, Kojima could learn a thing or two from them.

@@johnryan3940 I do know it's coming to console, but it's rare for a game to have completely different UI's for different input devices or even different platforms for that matter, at least in my experience anyway, usually it's just remapping keys or buttons, but this is a total redesign, you'd be excused for thinking it was a different game. Look at Metal Gear Solid 5 Phantom Pain for example, it was made with a controller in mind, and you can't even use a mouse in the menu's and inventory, so colour me impressed.

Fascinating that people like yourself who usually love character creator options, now give it a mark down for going "too far" 😆 Including trans bodies does nothing to reduce your own gameplay, you literally never have to see a trans body if you don't select for it. My issue with the character creator is more that it's unnecessary in the context of considering priority. They went so far as to let you pick your genitals, but you can't pick your eyebrows, nose shape, eye shape etc? The focus was absolutely in the wrong place here in my opinion.

@@TheMartyandy The effort of allowing both options? It'd take just as much effort to not allow both options. As they're hotswappable, they are made as seperate items (so for e.g. "dick A") and then swapped into whatever body it's given by default. It'd take more effort to then exclude Dick A from being allowed to be hotswappable for female body types.... If you grant/accept the above, I take it you don't have an issue with it now? As a side argument, lets say it was more effort, it would again likely be the ammount of effort needed for say, an afternoon by one dev. The assests would be made already, so the extra effot would only come from allowing or disallowing them on certain bodies. So even if that's effort, it's not going to be much. If these were fully sculpted attached parts, I'd agree, but they're not, they're hotswappable, and so the only effort MUST be in a dev checking a box or not. That is SO little effort it's not worth even thinking about, never mind marking a videogame down for it, especially when balenced against the fact that for trans people, or someone who wants a trans character to play. it's a MASSIVE win for tiny effort. To assess that situation and mark the game down is insane. Literally only brain rot bigotry against trans people and thinking it's "gone woke" (even though it literally effects you and your game in no way whatsoever if you dont select for it) is the only reason that 'makes sense'.

I think I found the issue with my stuttering which happened every hour or so for a few seconds. I played a session today in 1440p and took off Vsync and it ran great, very smooth at 90fps, no stuttering at all. When I tried to capture footage it now gave a little stutter every now and then, again nothing major but it did stutter so I think it was more due to the capture than playing the game.

If trading works like in Divinity, it makes sense that only one person can interact with a trader at the same time, what if the shopkeeper has limited supply of each item including gold? Then it would just be constant yelling at each other that one player has bought out xy item that is no longer there, or the merchant ran out of gold. Taking turns is probably the only reasonable way to avoid these conflicts.

By the same virtue, what if the one person who is interacting with the merchant buys out everything you want and you can't do anything about it? Same sort of arguments would stir up. If people argue, it's just a party composition issue and you should probably find better friends to play with. It shouldn't really be the devs' responsibility to try and control that.

I think most parties (at least the ones I did) in Divinity 2 would just nominate a banker who would interact and gain favour with merchants. Players would then send the items to that one character to sell. The banker can inform the group what is in stock and purchase it with the combined group gold.

In group of 4 players you can just create 4 different characters and each have their own gear setups one uses light, other medium, one goes heavy armour and the 4th might be naked barbarian. Easily splitting the gear you recieve depending on type. weapons also have prficiency depending on your class/race so shouldn't be too much arguing between them. Diverse group is also best on the field when you can do a lot of different actions!

Loving the game so far. As a complete DnD noob, I decided to punish myself and be really strict with reloads on my first playthrough. Basically haven't manually reloaded at all, but I've made so many mistakes my party is falling apart lmao. 10/10 would recommend.

Thats how you play such a game ;) No save scumming, just deal with the consequences. After 24 Hours playtime my party exists of 2 from the "starting" companions. The rest left or died because of my decisions. And i love it xD

It's because I don't fall for marketing bullshit :) When I say a game runs bad you will notice it run bad for pretty much everyone else. I tested BG3 tonight in 1440p and got 90fps and it ran great, the stuttering turned out to be the video capturing, I also think it has a memory leak, when I just play like most people without capturing it ran great so SSD is not at all beneficial to me in BG3.

combat is still easily broken by stealth the stupid retreat system has a gigantic leash range and with bad luck enemies will take minutes to move before you can do anything again. Never liked the Larien studios games though they cater to a niche I love, roll playing RPG, they just invest too much in lore, voice acting splashy graphics, promoting the message etc... What the what the what the... making complaining bout their games lame, but that’s just the end result for me personally. It’s all too much for no real advantage. Gameplay is fail for me and the way they just throw gallons on the not important things when building a game. Feels like the witcher games same scenario, tons of stuff... it’s all just boring... I rather go watch grass grow… But there’s hope in the close future… Star Field is incoming fast. Brace for quality.

Just want to clarify my hard drive situation as so many are having a melt down lol. I have a 500 gig M.2 drive as C: which I use for my applications such as video editor as they really benefit from the speed, also booting up is almost instant. I have HDD WD Caviar black drives for gaming which runs all the latest AAA games fine, I ran BG3 tonight in 1440p at 90 fps no long loading times at all. I will run Starfield on the same drive and I bet it works fine, if not I will grab an SSD and drop it in, I have room for another drive or two and will designate my HDD for storage. SSD just shortens the time of load screens a little bit and reduces PC noise. Totally unnecesarry for games unless you play Rust every day. That's the only game that comes to mind where you actually save reasonable amount of time when joining a server.

I mean even 10 seconds shorter is a decent reduction when your just staring at a loading scree. It's a cheap upgrade and I've never seen someone argue that it's marketing bullshit. Wow that article is hilariously bad. “PC players will need to have 150 GB of free space and an SSD just to run the game.” A few paragraphs later… “While the game will work on a HDD, or a hybrid drive, those who use the aging storage technology may suffer from issues.” LOL. Anyway, a good quality and fast HDD like the caviar black you have is flawless 99% of the time. If there is a problem, and testing confirms that the bottleneck is with the HDD, so be it, pop an SSD in no big deal. I don’t see why everyone is having a meltdown.

Out of 23 years, this is the character creator they give us? 4 penis options, 2 vulva options, each race has only 8 preset faces(mind you these 8 presets are all the same for the female, male and non binary) that are universal to all 2 gendered options and the third option here. No sliders outside of age and skin condition sliders. There is a clear push to go against identifying male and female body types lol this alone is not worth it!

But, there is no need to bring down BG3, if anything it's a reason to prop it up high and show how a game is supposed to be made. It's the same reason triple A studios tried bringing down Elden Ring. A good game should be praised, because if we don't, all of these other so called "industry standard leaders" aren't going to get the picture that we want games that are actually good. There is already industry leaders trying to bring this game down, telling gamers not to "expect BG3 to be the standard and to set the bar" as they classify this game as an anomaly and "unrealistic". When in reality, they classify it as an anomaly because the game didn't launch with 100's of issues, micro-transactions, and all the typical stuff you get from a "triple A" title nowadays.

While it's too soon to pass final judgement, as I (and pretty much everyone else) does not have all the info about this game that there is to know, there are definitely design decisions I think are very poor, bugs, and other things that lead me to think that this game will not be well remembered. But again, too soon to say with 100% certainty. While I know it means nothing to you, I do have a pretty good track record of predicting such things. There are telltale signs. All that said. Even if Larian (or someone else) produces the most awesome game ever that will not positively influence the other 'AAA' title producing companies out there to make better games. They do not know how. They only know how to wring the consumer for money. This is true of all global corporations across all industries. You're wasting your time if you think you'll convince the likes of EA, Blizzard, et al to make a better game. Ugly news for you.... Larian is in bed with two such evil companies: Hasbro and WotC. That's just one major reason I think this game is not going to be a classic like it's predecessors, nor positively influence the gaming industry. Unfortunately most of that industry has been bought up by the greedy. Hence it's so rare that anything good is ever released anymore, of any genre.

My point was that CRPGs have been around for quite a while and far better written ones than BG3 for that matter. BG3 is just a modern CRPG. Nothing more. Nothing less. Cutscenes are not Blizzard standard. They are better. Diablo IV has 2 fully CG cutscenes; one of them was the same exact as promotional. Most of Diablo's in-game cutscenes are basically just headshots of your character talking. Not to mention, the whole cutscene kerfuffle with Warcraft 3 Reforged.

The game has really great graphics and atmosphere so it is a must have for all fantasy/rpg fans, but the skills is so simple I could not believe it. The voiceover and the writing in this is just so good. There was one interaction with Astarion which would have been Oscar-worthy, had it been in a movie. His speech about not going back to SPOILER or something, IIRC. The emotion in his voice actually made me understand why Astarion is the way he is. Prior to that, he seemed flippant, casually cruel, and I disliked him. After that speech, I actually started to respect him and actively steer him to be less... well... evil. Running it on an HDD only means you'll have slightly longer loading screens and maybe some blurry textures right after those loading screens. The rest of the game is pretty much not affected as far as I could tell.

that's becoming less true, developers now expect the user to have a SSD so how game engines and developers load textures and scripts are designed for that much faster speed. You'll start to see more texture and bugs I suspect the text bug Mac experienced is a direct result of using a HDD. This game (BG3) does have an option to allow the game to load into RAM if you're using a HDD instead of SSD which might solve a few of these bugs.

I was playing against some Goblins, I called in some backup with an ability and the Goblins surrendered!!! Started offering info in exchange for survival. I had 4 dialogue options but then another battle started because of a nearby Goblin.... So the cut scene ended but they all ran off! I reloaded and tried again but they never surrendered again. I tried 3 times. So it really is random.

The woke options are just restricted to the character creation and I guess romance. (You can romance all party members, regardless of gender.) As for pro-satanism…. I mean. This is a game based off of Dungeons and Dragons. There is literally a class whose entire gimmick is that they made a deal with otherworldly beings or demons for power. As for degeneracy, I’d say it’s mostly optional. If you wanna turn off nudity, you can. The game literally has a pop up offering you to turn off nudity and sex altogether from the moment you open it. And even if you did wanna leave nudity on anyway, it’s completely your choice to strip and play the whole game with a naked character. Other characters in the game will acknowledge and ask why you’re running around naked and you will die more easily but again, it’s about choice. The whole game is about choice. You wanna be the Wokest bitch in fantasy land? Go ahead. You wanna be a devout Paladin who indiscriminately kills all undead? Go ahead. Long story short. The game is very woke, very satanic and very degenerate IF you choose it to be.

@@Koozwad I’ll be honest, that is kinda subjective. If a character you’re not romantically interested in starts making romantic advances on you, you can always say no. If you count that as subtle forcing, then yes I guess? I personally feel that as long as the game gives me an option to say no, I wouldn’t say it’s forced but that’s just me. The only thing that’s hard filtered out is nudity/degeneracy. There is also an entire race of fantasy people who look like demons. They aren’t demons nor are they inherently evil. Most are innocent civilians. Your mileage may vary with this one.

The facial animations don't look that great, mainly in comparison to games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Witcher 3 .. otherwise this looks great

As much as i love this game already knowing what you told us Mack, im not a big fan of "look from above" games myself. But will give it a go just to experience that freedom. But i would pay good money for a proper TPP RPG game, Gothic/Witcher style with that amount of deepness in it and details.

awesome review man, but you gotta upgrade that 2018 GPU Mack :) you can't run the games at their highest settings, which is a shame honestly :)
