I would actually take a DLC where the whole objective is to save Karlach from the hells. I would restart my character and go through all the layers solo if I have to gods damnit.

as a sorcadin, grinding against demons till level 20 to then go smite Zariel into oblivion works for me, even if i have to track down her fcking sword for a major debuff on her, i'll fcing do it!

I'm only about 14 hrs in...and totally in love with Korlach. Going to Avernus with her is the only option for me...then, there's always a chance, however slim it may be. (Yes, I know this is a video game and not reality...gosh, LOL)

It's so annoying there's no way to fix her engine, especially with all the infernal metals we can collect in act 3. Feels like they cut her 'good' ending.

Yeah especially with how many possible ways to do that there are - not only bunch of infernal iron, even enriched infernal iron later, the mention of steel watch having the same but upgraded engines, hell, give us a chance to make a pact with raphael, I'll give him the reins to the world for a new life for her

I mean other big rpg from double a to triple a have dlc and I think it would be cool to see if we can revert from being a squid it might be the only way to keep her alive. Sort of makes sense and why lots of people ask what is the best ending for me and not what is the best ending for my char or what would be best for the companion. Just think being a squid might be something easier to fix than such a machine given we might have more time.

There is an interview of karlachs VA on youtube revealing that with her introduction in early access players were so excited about her that larian hired the VA and essentially massively expanded her story. I believe originally she was not even supposed to be an origin character or recruitable in act 1. So yeah, they likely didnt have the time to finish all that they intended for her. Still, i dont hate her story and i think its impressive that she turned out to be a favourite of many players.

My idea for how they could give Karlach a happy ending; if Karlach is in the party when Raphael offers to give the Orphic Hammer, he could also offer there and then to restore Karlach's heart as added insurance for the party. This would leave a big divide where we could save Karlach but make going to the House of Hope significantly more dangerous for her as Raphael could enthrall without chance of save, leaving the party one down and the enemy one up and maybe causing interparty conflict, like maybe Karlach ending any romantic relationship with the player. Or, the other side of this, after speaking to Raphael when he makes this offer, during the next long rest, Mizora arrives on behalf of Zariel and offers to restore Karlach's heart if the party kills Raphael, as she would be well aware of his intent to usurp the Hells. They could have another major story beat tied to this as well, where Wyll, if his approval is high enough and he's ended his pact with Mizora, can offer to re-establish the pact and take Karlach's place, including the Engine, in return for Karlach getting her heart back and that the party kills Raphael and destroys the Crown of Karsus. Wyll gets to be the hero to someone he was originally meant to kill and gets the punishment he deserves for all the "devils" he killed for Mizora and, by proxy, Zariel, and Karlach is finally freed from a decade of torment and pain, finally able to live free.

@@TheHondaR50 Oh absolutely, it was 100% cut, but I don't think it was to release earlier, I think they just wanted to have a companion without the happy ending they wanted, even though she was the one who deserved it most. I proposed this idea because it felt dramatic with heavy stakes for the player, Karlach and Wyll, no matter which direction it went. I think the most likely fix Larian will implement due to fan request/demand will be to do with the Gondian's working with Dammon to install the Enriched Infernal Iron, but I think they'll probably have some drawbacks, likely the removal of the Soul Coin rage and maybe even losing her resistance to fire or gaining vulnerability to it instead. I just hope they actually do put a happy ending in for Karlach in either one of their major patches, or in an actual expansion based after the main game.

Orrrrrrr we could ask Mizora to end Wyll's contract when we find her in exchange for her life and then kill her anyway because we don't need those devils playin' us again. Then still strike a deal with Raphael fulfilling both ends of the bargain AND getting Karlach fixed while reminding him how useful we are as partners in crime by taking Mizora down. Yeah he gets more than we do if you compare usurping Hells to just helping one person in your party but bigger threats have been present in the world and with the Absolute still alive having a 100% stable Karlach is significantly better than having her on practically deathbed.

Does anyone else feel like most of the companion's stories reflect real life crises that are deeply relatable? Like how Shadowheart and Astarion's background can easily move anyone who has been in an abusive relationship, either with romantic partners or parents. Cause I'm getting some serious cancer vibes from Karlach's character arc.

A lot of people mad about her endings, but not everyone gets a fairy tale ending. Even the best of us often don't have a good ending. I don't think it's bad or poor that they chose this direction with her as a kind of, "The brightest stars burn shortest" kind of thing. Even then, joining her in Avernus isn't a bad option. With the support of either Wyll or her Tav there's a real opportunity to find someone that can improve/repair/replace her infernal engine so they can return later. Were she alone sure not great, but I feel like with the support of one of her friends that stared down and fought gods with her she'll be not to bad off. It's a tad open ended but not egregiously so and honestly it'd do people good to acknowledge that things rarely get perfect endings.

I think the problem is that they give us so many options for every other character, so many endings for other characters, yet when it comes to kalach there are only bad endings, so it makes the player feel cheated out of the seemingly infinite options this game seems to give us.

Came back to this video after they announced that they're giving Karlach "the ending she deserves" whatever that means !!! I hope that means it'lll be a (truly) happy ending for Karlach >:) I wouldn't say any of these endings were bad, but they are definitely unsatisfying (especially when you compare them to every other companions endings

Two words. True Resurrection. Anyone that doesn't know what that does in detail can read up on it if need be, but it's pretty self explanatory. The problem is, I don't think it would work with the squid ending and it's a 9th rank spell which requires at least a level 17 Cleric or Druid. But that's if they follow D&D to the letter and even then I'm fairly sure there are other cheaper ways to do this. Regardless, kinda sucks to see such a lively character get axed like this.

@@jasonscottsego7311 Basic Resurrection needs a body since it activates "upon touching a dead creature". Since she turns completely to ash in the worst ending, it wouldn't work. If they had a small piece of her to touch I think it would work that way though.

@Icejinn "This spell closes all mortal wounds and restores any missing body parts." Remove the engine from her and cast away. True Res is less trauma inducing. But in a pinch it'll work

Honestly? For me Illithid ending is the best for her (sided with Orpheus). The only things she lost after the transformation is the "fire" way she speaks and appearance. After all what make our personality is our memories, experiencies, and feelings and she maintended all of this and still happy! (on calm way of course!) Personal view here but love and care goes beyond the appearance. I'm glad there's a option that you can still say she's beautiful and i'm sure she will be perfectly fine because as the way she said: I don't need to survive anymore, now i can live. Love you Karlach! Best character of the game!

Yeah, the main problem with that is that she gave up her soul to do this. Not in the sense of a deal with the devil - it was completely destroyed. What that exactly entails is up to discussion but it has been said in the game many times and illithids basically are not under any gods domain and can't partake in the afterlife.

when the githyanki god kills you in that one cinematic, she casts wish on you. Karlach asks you why noone can cast wish on her while her breakdown after killing Gortash. Maybe there is a way to save her when you ally with that god somehow

Karlach smeels like cut content, with the Enriched Infernal Iron laying around, that could be used to upgrade her hearth futher, maybe even stopping her condition, or, if they feel like torturing us, prolonging her life for a few more years before bummm, there are other ways to save her that the game make us ignore for plot reasons.

We can still hope (ironic considering how much false hope the story gave Karlach Q_Q ) for a complete story in "Enhanced/Definite" editions later as they add/complete unfinished parts ooooor....a DLC. I know people say "Larian doesnt do DLCs" but thats false. You just need to go past the "casual modern Original Sin gamers", back to ancient times of 2009/2010 when they released Divinity 2 (not Original Sin)...they made a DLC/Expansion for it, Flames of Vengeance, when it turned out to be a commercial success and after people werent satisfied with original ending :-) #JusticeForKarlach

I don’t think the ilithid process is reversible. Even the post credit scene confirms that your soul vanishes…maybe a wish spell or divine intervention, but I don’t think you can undo it. There is also another ending where Will becomes the Blade of Avernus. Which despite how it sounds, it’s actually him hunting devils and demons. To get this ending I did not accept Mizora’s deal but still saved Grand Duke Ravenguard. In the conversation at camp, Wyll declined his offer to join the council and swore he’d continue to hunt devils without his powers. If you do this, he offers to go to Avernus with her
